The city air is a refreshing breather from the dank pyramid... it would do an explorer good to take a break every once in a while. Whether here for business or pleasure, out here's definitely better than in there!

With the recent excavation going on, it seems that Professor Elm and his assistants have commandeered half the town in the name of science! The city scientists have set up in the Poke Center, close enough for research, yet far enough away to not be bothered by the inherent dangers of the unknown magical ruins.

HOW WONDERFUL! Barnaby had only ever seen migrations of these kinds in slides back in capture school. But to see it live? How invigorating! Oh if only he had a camera!

Barnaby finds a nice place to sit down and watch as the horde of Dunsparce pass by, crafting a couple (5) pokeballs while he does so. Knowing their origins from the ruins, however, the Colonel makes note to keep an eye out for Dunsparce worth catching. If he could prove these things passed through the pyramid at some point, it would make for an interesting start for his expeditions the next day.

Barnaby tries looking among the thick crowd of Dunsparce for any abnormalities, but he fails to spot anything out of the ordinary.

One Dunsparce crawls out of line and falls asleep right in the road.

Aww, just a little tired isn't it? Just too big a trek for one tiny thing to handle. Can't say much for survival instincts choosing a carved-open path to fall asleep on, but to each his own.

Come to think of it, Barnaby could use a Dunspare, or couple of burrowing pokemon, in the odd chance he needed to do some digging in the pyramid area. Believing the opportunity to be advantageous, Barnaby took one of his freshly-made pokeballs and rolled it gently towards the sleeping pokemon, intending to catch it without disturbing the nearby parade.

Barnaby's ball hits the Dunsparce, but bounces over it, not triggering. It falls into the horde... where it is quickly taken away by the mob of Dunsparce.

From downstream, the Colonel can hear the rapid clicking and unclicking of the ball as it continually hits the crowd. It stops after about 5 minutes. Looks like it caught one, but it's quite far off; almost at the city limits.

Well, he isn't going to just leave the ball to wherever destiny sends it. Not when there's an innocent pokemon inside of it!

Barnaby sends out Clopperton and the newly-caught Private Stagstrong, and mounts the former of the two. He has Stagstrong take a good whiff of the new pokeballs and their maker in hopes of tracking it down and recovering the creature within. Compared to Sketchtail, the faster Stantler should be able to keep up with Ponyta at full speed, allowing them a quick journey to the ball. Furthermore, the light coming off of the horse would allow them to easily spot the thing in the dark of the night.

Should Stantler fail to pick of the trail, the Colonel will have his old standby Sketchtail fill in and give a go, albeit with a slower journey speed s he can keep up.

Stagstrong and Sketchtail try to get a scent, but they can't seem to pick up on the specific ball... just a load of Dunsparce. Must not be a strong enough scent.

Scentscience

The caravan continues down the trail, trying to spot the ball regardless.

Spoiler: click to toggle

A bright-red ball in them middle of a horde of yellow Dunsparce. And a surface that would shine in the light coming off of Clopperton; seeking it out would mean finding a gold bar in a pile of iron pieces, but still better than the needle in a haystack. He'd run down the line of Dunsparce looking for the glint of red and white in the dark night, and hope his companions do the same.

Sketchtail: Returned to pokeball; his Overland 5 would slow down Barnaby and his Overland 7 Mounts. Speed is key after all.

Barnaby isn't able to spot anything, but Clopperton charges alongside the horde as if he's spotted something!

After a few seconds, the ride becomes a little bumpy... and then a lot bumpy! The rush of migrating Dunsparce has overtaken the whole path, and it's throwing Clopperton off balance! (Athletics)

Barnaby KNEW he should have invested in that saddle! He quickly grabs onto Clopperton for safety, hoping to not be toppled.

Barnaby manages to keep his legs firmly around his Ponyta's torso!

...but that doesn't mean Clopperton isn't going over. Tripping over what seems like a million Dunsparce, the Ponyta quickly falls over, ending up on the wrong side of the Dunsparce horde. This is all quite desensitizing... (Focus)
