The city air is a refreshing breather from the dank pyramid... it would do an explorer good to take a break every once in a while. Whether here for business or pleasure, out here's definitely better than in there!

With the recent excavation going on, it seems that Professor Elm and his assistants have commandeered half the town in the name of science! The city scientists have set up in the Poke Center, close enough for research, yet far enough away to not be bothered by the inherent dangers of the unknown magical ruins.

Elm stammers a bit. "T-This is revolutionary! M-May I see the Pokemon?" He was completely enthralled with the discovery!

Merchant whips it out...the pair of pokeballs that is....with the pikachus.
He opens up both of them, the green-tinted mice appearing before him. The two look confused before noticing merchant, and take up an aggressive stand.
That is...until they also notice Cat staring them down from behind his legs, toothy grin on.

The two pikachu back down, looking around.

"Merchant will not harm either of you. And he will not allow Cat to either. Be docile."
The two Pikachu huddle together, looking from one to the other.
"They have spores on them that burst when connected, and they use them to paralyze opponents instead of electricity. They are both rare and valuable. Most importantly...they come from a human-independant environment. Merchant was the first human they have ever seen.
You are the second."

Elm's eyes light up at the sight of the shifted Pikachu! He kneels down, getting close enough to make careful observations, but not close enough to trigger their spores. "Astounding! Brilliant! This is... this changes everything we know about..."

Realizing he's gushing, he quickly recovers his composure, and stands up to Merchant. "Yes... they're... well, I'll take them. What do you want for them? Money? Notoriety? A trade? I always carry a few Pokemon to trade..." He opens his coat, showing a few Pokeballs undernearth: four, to be specific. Three have marks of fire, water, and grass on them, and the last is unmarked.

"Money...is always good. As is trading.
Merchant can guess what the first three are...can Merchant see the unmarked?"

He looks with interest.
Merchant was not opposed to gambling, but he was far more in favor of knowing what he was getting.

Elm obliges, releasing the attached mystery ball and deploying whatever was inside...

...the shape of a yellow snake forms on the ground. Dunsparce!

Merchant is...unimpressed to say the least.
He instead opens up a third pokeball as well.
The two pikachu seem overjoyed at their last companion, glad to be together.
"Merchant was able to catch the trio at once, and he would hate to seperate them...
Perhaps we can work a group deal. You get the whole family for the starter trio..."

Elm gasps in delight at the sight of THREE Pikachu! Unexpectedly, he rips all of the Poke Balls off of his coat!

"Take them! Just take them all! For the Pikachu, please!!"

Merchant quickly takes the four balls, pocketing them and bowing.
"A pleasure doing business with you. I-Merchant hopes you learn as you like."

Handing over the three pokemon balls, he quickly departs, heading back to camp.

Merchant slips out of the area and heads to Violet City, new collection of Ill-gotten pokemon ready to sell or trade. He heads off to try to find the pokemon black market, he had far too many pokemon at this point, and some of them quite simply needed to be sold.

Merchant explores the town quickly, thinking of the best places to hide a black market... which brings him to the Sprout Tower.

Inside the tower, the monks spot him, and deftly pull away their Bellsprouts. "You are here for enlightenment?" one asks.
