The marble architecture leading down the sparkling passage becomes more articulate the further on it goes, from a few wavy lines to a full-on ocean mural, depicting many aquatic Pokemon. The odd sparkling light reflects off of all sides, despite any source nearby... that is soon changed, however, when the passage fans outward to a bright, noisy clearing. The tunnel ends atop a set of stairs leading downward a meter, which itself leads to a marble platform carved into the wall on this side of the chamber. The platform is essentially a stone dock; the rest of the chamber, under the level of that dock, is filled with water. How far down cannot be discerned, but what is certain is that this place was once tall and majestic. The tips of massive stonework buildings peak out of the surface of the water, waves crashing softly against the masonry. The tops of lower buildings form platforms that can be traversed with hearty jumps. Just as well, some buildings poke out even taller, gaining a story of space above the water level. Above the water, the chamber resonates a white-blue reflection of the deep. Lanterns are strung up instead of being bolted to the wall, and the far wall stretches upward at an angle to meet the back wall in a triangle formation. The chamber is actually quite large as far as forward-backward goes, but who knows how far down it goes? |

Barnaby takes in the peak sights around him... aside from what he's already found, this place is actually pretty barren. It's a little hilly, but if there's Pokemon far from him he can't make out what they are (if they're there). He does see the water rushing out of the rocks beneath his feet... and something sitting in the waterfall underneath. (Acro 10, Athl 19) Kingler's defense is impeccable; where it seemed like it was on the verge of defeat, it now won't budge an inch. Jones is no closer to beating this crab than he was a moment ago. A king wouldn't be toppled so easily, after all! He's pulling out all the stops now; he slaps some mud in Jones's face with his big legs! Oh? And what would want to sit under a waterfall in these frigid temperatures? Actually, probably any of the locals. Ice IS their thing. Barnaby quickly takes a mental image of the glacier's layout then slides down the iced hill to meet the waterfall denizen. Perhaps he may know more of the origins of the ice sheet! Or be angry at the explorer's presence! Or both! |

Jones spits out the mud and glares. "So, we're gonna play dirty now huh?!" He leans in. "Well lemme tell ya Kingy, I'm not letting you win this!" Confide: [result]20&20,1d20,0,20&1d20[/result] Athl +AP: [result]15&6:6,2d6,3,15&2d6+3[/result] Acro: [result]14&6:1:4:3,4d6,0,14&4d6[/result] |

Barnaby slides down easily, and meets whatever Pokemon is down in the waterfall. It's a serpentine Pokemon, from the look of its shadow. His landing catches the creature's attention... a curious Dratini's head pops out from the cold rush of water. A dragon! But they usually HATE cold temperatures like this... (Acro 5, Athl 19) Where its technique is severely lacking, the hole in its defense is still plugged adequately with muscle, but Jones seems to be catching up. The sudden surge in strength catches the King off guard, leaving him no room to sling mud. One last shove will finish him! (Body check! A 12 or better on 3d6+Body wins it!) |

![]() "HELLO THERE! What are you doing in an icy place such as this? Wouldn't you prefer somewhere a bit warmer? Or is this your home!? That's astounding! Microadaptation to cover a species fault! Are you the only one here? Could it simply be a common trait in this area? Does that mean warmth is... Barnaby goes into one of his frantic studious episodes with a wide grin, hopping around the waterfall to get a better look at the Dratini. For all extensive purposes the creature was like a celebrity, and the professor treated it with much praise. Poke Ed roll for Disposition Increase: [result]14&3:4:2:2,4d6,3,14&4d6+3[/result] +AP |
