The behemoth pyramid stretches nearly fifty meters tall, with a long set of stairs climbing up the south side. From a distance, one can spy a good deal of light glistening in the stone hallway leading to the antechamber of the pyramid. Within minutes of setting foot on the clay stones that form the ground, the chattering of researches and gloating of treasure hunters fills any daring adventurer's ears.

The antechamber itself is stocked full of tents and lanterns, as well as the people who brought them. A research team of 50 people has decided to set up a base camp right in the mouth of the Clay Pyramid; close enough to tell the light of day, yet far enough into the stonework to feel overwhelmed by the tall tunnel they call home. A number of archaeologists have been painstakingly examining the Pokemon carvings that adorn the walls of the antechamber, while some of the laborers are taking an early break from clearing out the space for living. Lanterns are placed evenly around the chamber, and generators for laptops and machines are scattered about less frequently. From the wall opposite of the entrance, a massive set of stone double doors nearly 10 meters tall casts an ominous gaze on the whole party of researchers.

In the center of the base camp, a sign has been affixed to the ground, reading: "Explorers Needed! See Inside", pointing a large tent to the left. Rife, hearty laughter can be heard from inside.

Jones turns slowly on his heel; and then blanches when he sees the crimson glow. His mind races as he tries to see if there's anything he's ever come across or read about that would explain this.

Jones attempts to figure out the meaning of the glow...

"I don't think they're inherently dangerous. They may be some form of ward, with the way the pokemon are acting, but that could also simply be because it's an unfamiliar phenomena. But for safety's sake, please put it back, we don't know if they're tied to anything else or not, and I'd rather not risk us waking something actually dangerous up." Jones' voice is calm, though there's a very slight strain when he mentions waking something else up.

"But that's what I'm here to. . . okay."

Stefan, grumbling, puts the torch back, but not before, on a whim, rapping his knuckles on the carving, feeling their age.

And to think. I didn't bring a flashlight.

"No offense to you Stefan, or any of the other folks here to serve as protection detail, but tomb guardians tend to be pretty powerful. I'd honestly put our odds at surviving an encounter with one at this point at zero. So please, just trust me when I say it's a bad idea at the moment to tempt fate." He winces when he sees Stefan tap the still-glowing glyph.

Merchant wiggles a flashlight in front of Stefan.

"On loan. Break, you buy. Full retail! Need to sell later to paying customer."
He then goes to investigate the same carving.
Perhaps there was a way to get the lightsource from behind out...it might be worth money!

His Meowth eyes the Geodudes.
"No no, we get one later on way back. Don't want you punched before inside."

Stefan accepts the flashlight from Merchant, with the suspicion he'll regret it later. He tactfully chooses not to argue with Jones on the assumption that the explorer had made concerning the capabilities of Krieger and Stefan.

"Thanks. Sorry to slow things down."

Jones nods. "Nothing to be sorry about. Better to take the initial probes slowly until we start finding branching corridors and stairways leading down. Do this thing one level at a tie if we can, yeah?" Jones has his own flashlight out and ready, just in case now, and as soon as the torch is back and place and the glyph stops glowing, he'll move along with the rest of the group.

Follows the group slowly with his hands in his pockets. This was lame...at least thus far it was pretty lame. He wasn't even given an opportunity to do any training and everything was talking seriously...This was super lame.

With the torch back, the crimson glow fades from the carving. With the spook over (and Stefan's knuckles red from scraping the stone-clay wall), the crew continues on...

About 45 minutes crawl by, with the smarter folk stopping every few feet to go giddy about some crack in the wall. The hallway has grown taller and wider, and branches out seven meters from wall to wall. Looking into the distance, something is emerging from the shadows as the party grows closer... it's not a Pokemon or anything, but a stone stand of some kind. The top is angled 45 degrees toward the group, but it's still too distant to make out if there's anything marked on the stone stand.
