The behemoth pyramid stretches nearly fifty meters tall, with a long set of stairs climbing up the south side. From a distance, one can spy a good deal of light glistening in the stone hallway leading to the antechamber of the pyramid. Within minutes of setting foot on the clay stones that form the ground, the chattering of researches and gloating of treasure hunters fills any daring adventurer's ears.

The antechamber itself is stocked full of tents and lanterns, as well as the people who brought them. A research team of 50 people has decided to set up a base camp right in the mouth of the Clay Pyramid; close enough to tell the light of day, yet far enough into the stonework to feel overwhelmed by the tall tunnel they call home. A number of archaeologists have been painstakingly examining the Pokemon carvings that adorn the walls of the antechamber, while some of the laborers are taking an early break from clearing out the space for living. Lanterns are placed evenly around the chamber, and generators for laptops and machines are scattered about less frequently. From the wall opposite of the entrance, a massive set of stone double doors nearly 10 meters tall casts an ominous gaze on the whole party of researchers.

In the center of the base camp, a sign has been affixed to the ground, reading: "Explorers Needed! See Inside", pointing a large tent to the left. Rife, hearty laughter can be heard from inside.

Stefan and Krieger let the excitable eggheads run in first. They follow not far afterwards, keeping an eye out for obvious signs of danger, as well as the merchant they had promised to escort.

The five group members move into the hallway, one after the other. Diana follows up once she assumes everyone else has gone ahead of her... Dunn moves right behind her.

The hallway is tiny, compared to the antechamber the group was just in for the last few hours. It stands maybe ten feet tall, about five meters wide, and carries on farther than anyone's eyes can discern. About five minutes into the cave, the natural sights one would expect in a dungeon environment are already visible: vines, torches, a few Zubat and Geodude here and there (not in overwhelming numbers, only about one of each every 30 paces). The Pokemon in the hallway seem docile enough to walk by without much trouble.

Stefan sets Krieger down from where he had hoisted the aron as exercise and boredom. He had considered going after a zubat or geodude, but it wasn't worth taking time away from the rest of the group and potentially getting separated. Instead, he goes to investigate one of the torches and remove it from its sconce if possible as he escorts the rest of the group.

Jason sighed as his pace slowed down a little bit. He wanted to get away from the main group as soon as possible, but that didn't look like it was going to be an easy task. Instead he would continue to walk behind everyone, or at least as far back as some of the other people would let him and then branch off.

"Ah, Merchant will take a Zubat. I shall catch up."

Motioning his Meowth, he finds a secluded Zubat. He tosses the cat into the air, and it strikes out!

Seeing the attack connect, Merchant immediately tosses the ball.
"It's ok Zubat. Might not sell much, but Merchant sees your worth."

Jones stops to study one of the carvings, before calling out to the others. "Hey, keep an eye out for any carvings of Claydol that aren't lit by torches. They may signify something. And as a word of caution, don't disturb the torches on the ones that are already lit up, we have no idea what that may trigger, if anything." He's recalled Digger now, in order to give the others more room to move.

Oz nods at Jones, and continues down the path. He seems about at interested in the Pokemon at the side of the hallway as they are of him.

Along the way, he keeps an eye out for any unusual features among the Claydol carvings, like Jones said.

While Merchant lands an easy capture at the tail end of the group, Stefan takes a torch from the wall, right as Jones encourages everyone not to do so. Fortunately, no quakes are caused; oddly enough though, the outline of the Claydol that the torch illuminates glows an eerie crimson, as if backlit by something. Everyone that was on lookout notices the glowing when the torchlight is taken away... though Pokemon that were once near the torch move slightly away from the crimson glow, seemingly unsettled by it.

Stefan cringes as he hears Jones' warning, having already claimed the torch.

"Sorry. But come here and take a look at this, guys. What do you make of it?"
