The behemoth pyramid stretches nearly fifty meters tall, with a long set of stairs climbing up the south side. From a distance, one can spy a good deal of light glistening in the stone hallway leading to the antechamber of the pyramid. Within minutes of setting foot on the clay stones that form the ground, the chattering of researches and gloating of treasure hunters fills any daring adventurer's ears. The antechamber itself is stocked full of tents and lanterns, as well as the people who brought them. A research team of 50 people has decided to set up a base camp right in the mouth of the Clay Pyramid; close enough to tell the light of day, yet far enough into the stonework to feel overwhelmed by the tall tunnel they call home. A number of archaeologists have been painstakingly examining the Pokemon carvings that adorn the walls of the antechamber, while some of the laborers are taking an early break from clearing out the space for living. Lanterns are placed evenly around the chamber, and generators for laptops and machines are scattered about less frequently. From the wall opposite of the entrance, a massive set of stone double doors nearly 10 meters tall casts an ominous gaze on the whole party of researchers. In the center of the base camp, a sign has been affixed to the ground, reading: "Explorers Needed! See Inside", pointing a large tent to the left. Rife, hearty laughter can be heard from inside. The man in the fedora gives the figure an irreverent grin, before reaching into his backpack and pulling out a rugged, waterproof flashlight and flipping it end over end, before putting it back. "Thanks but no thanks friend, I'm already stocked up on those particular numbers."

As the newcomers pile into the tent, someone suddenly shouts from outside: "That asshole flipped the sign again!" An older, grizzled man in veritable safari gear, complete with pith helmet and 5 o'clock shadow, barges into the tent, pushing the crowd out of the way. He slams his hands on the Merchant's display, face bright red. "That's the third damn time you've tricked a gaggle of newcomers! Do it again and you're off the expedition!" He sighs a deep breath, turning around to the party, while the archaeologists who were already in the tent quickly depart. "Sorry about this guy. Name's Fir. I'm heading this whole dig. Don't mind the Merchant here, he's an ass, but we wouldn't have nearly as much equipment here if he hadn't sold it to us." He leans backward on the display. "So, you're the new five that want to go into the ruins? All Dem Checks

Jason looked around at all of the people that crammed into the tent and tried to find a conversation to engage in. There was a merchant, selling things at a high price, maybe too high for the need. But he didn't say anything about that. Instead he looked towards Fir. "Yeah...I plan on hopping in there and doing some training." |

Diana paused a moment and seemed to recognize she'd made a minor misjudgment; In that, as nice as the sign post may be, it was not in fact the recruitment station. Rather, the tent next to the sign post was where eager applicants were to enter and seek proper employment. Obvious really, now that she though about it. A little wooden plaque in the middle of the room hardly seemed suitable for applicants to gather. A tent made much more sense. Pushing aside the lose burlap tarp, Diana strode into the pavilion, and took in the assembled people there. At a guess, she expected these may very well end up being her coworkers on the expidition. I hope we get along well she thought to herself. After the large Gentleman, Fir, Entered, Diana gave hm a polite bow as she had done with the other gentleman earlier. "Pleased to make your aquaintence, My name is Diana Hammond, and yes, I would say I am very much eager to begin exploring the deeper substructures of the site. Just from this room alone I've seen enough that I could write up a dozen research papers, so you can bet your bottom dollar there's got to be even more to uncover the further in we go." Oz approaches Fir. He offers him a short bow, smiling pleasantly. "Pleasure to meet you. I'm Operative Osbourne, here on behalf of the Cawdor Group. If you don't tell my superiors," he grins slyly, "you may call me Oz." Oz eyes the rest of the group. He doesn't hide the fact that he's sizing them up. "Are we to explore the Pyramid as a team? . . . Seems practical." Edited by Old Greg, Aug 19 2013, 10:23 AM.

Stefan paused, considering the merchants wares. They would definitely be useful. He stuck his hand in his pocket, feeling for his wallet. Withdrawing and opening it, he was reminded of his financial status. Broke. He is relieved when a burly man interrupts the scene and tries to memorize the faces and names of the others. The strange woman, Diana, and the other man from earlier are there as well. And though he was unconcerned with making friends, the man named Oz had a good suggestion. Safety and convenience came in numbers, and he could see benefits that might arise from certain prospects. He began to consider what he could offer I barter as he listened to the others. The man with the Trapinch has sat himself down on a handy crate, and is scratching his mon's head as he takes in the others, along with Fir. The Trapinch is leaning into the man's hand, eyes closed in pleasure. "Henry Jones Jr.; I go by "Jones" or "Jonesy". This is Digger. I'm a graduate student of Archeology with the Pewter City Museum's program. I've read your works Dr. Fir. The paper on the proposed link between the ancient Johto Alph Empire and the Solaceon Ruins in Sinnoh was quite a work, though some of my professors seemed to think a few of your theories were a little far fetched. I think they forgot to take into account Unown are documented as being able to turn space/time into their personal plaything. And yes, I'm here to join the expedition as part of my Masters Thesis." |

Merchant shrugs his shoulders at the angry man and gives a thumbs up. "I make sale, make prepared. Keep newbies alive! Live recruits better than dead. You are welcome." He holds out the flashlight and rope. "I give good deal. 400!" He seems completely unphased by the anger of the man. A small Meowth crawls out from under his coat at his feet and walks by, purring. |

"You studied at Pewter City?" Diana interjected, her ears having perked up at the terms 'archeology' 'thesis' 'museum' and 'ruins' "Wait, You said Jones, yes? Henry Jones Jr.? The name rings a bell, but for the life of me I can't place it. Did you publish some fieldwork notes a year or so back? Document migration patterns evidenced in Pre-cambrien Kabuto Fossil Patterns? Or was it a speculative paper on Relicanth Reproductive habits?" A bit flustered, Diana waved a hand, dismissing the issue "I'm sure I've read something from you, but for the life of me I can't place it. Either way, it'll be an honor to be working with, sir." |

Jones looks over at Diana. "I think you may be thinking of one of the other grad students papers from Pewter, my specialty is ancient civilizations; their languages, architecture and customs, as well as how they interacted with pokemon. I did publish a paper on the near-universal veneration of Psychic-type pokemon throughout ancient cultures though, last year. And please, don't call me "sir", I'm probably only a few years older than you." He gives the girl a rakish smile. |
