Pyramid King

The behemoth pyramid stretches nearly fifty meters tall, with a long set of stairs climbing up the south side. From a distance, one can spy a good deal of light glistening in the stone hallway leading to the antechamber of the pyramid. Within minutes of setting foot on the clay stones that form the ground, the chattering of researches and gloating of treasure hunters fills any daring adventurer's ears. The antechamber itself is stocked full of tents and lanterns, as well as the people who brought them. A research team of 50 people has decided to set up a base camp right in the mouth of the Clay Pyramid; close enough to tell the light of day, yet far enough into the stonework to feel overwhelmed by the tall tunnel they call home. A number of archaeologists have been painstakingly examining the Pokemon carvings that adorn the walls of the antechamber, while some of the laborers are taking an early break from clearing out the space for living. Lanterns are placed evenly around the chamber, and generators for laptops and machines are scattered about less frequently. From the wall opposite of the entrance, a massive set of stone double doors nearly 10 meters tall casts an ominous gaze on the whole party of researchers. In the center of the base camp, a sign has been affixed to the ground, reading: "Explorers Needed! See Inside", pointing a large tent to the left. Rife, hearty laughter can be heard from inside. Jason had heard that the mountain was a great place to train and find his inner self. One thing he didn't plan on was a great party being assembled on the outside. Maybe though, the two could work hand in hand...him helping them out while helping himself and he walked into the tent...of course the sound of laughter was always a good thing. |

At three am, Stefan was having second thoughts about the whole thing. Forcing himself to go to bed at nine pm the night before had been rough enough. Even now as he and Krieger sleepily broke fast, he could hear his warm, familiar bed calling to him. There's no turning back. He had quit his job at the salon and had put all his personal effects into storage. His parents apparently also had a tenant in line to move in. Then there was the investment he had made in pokeballs and curatives. No, he had to do this. Setting their bowls and his glass into the sink, he noticed a dark blue and green pokeball with a note taped to it. Don't die out there. "Thanks guys," the trainer muttered before pocketing the ball and patting Krieger on the head. The aron was only a few steps behind as Stefan shouldered his backpack, slipping through the front door. Locking the door and dropping his copy of the keys through the mail slot, he crouched low, next to his only pokemon. "Are you ready for this?" The answer was an affirmative chirp. "Good, let's warm up." * * * Later that day, Stefan and Krieger's footsteps joined the hustle and bustle of the Pyramid's antechamber. The aron was close at his side, somewhat intimidated by the thrum of generators and the chatter of humanity. They paused before a sign posted in the center of the chamber. Explorers Needed! "That would be us," Stefan muttered before entering the tent. Spoiler: click to toggle

"Oh No, I Don't actually work here" Diana explained to one of the other archaeologists "I mean, not yet anyway. Well, not officially anyhow" she smiled. It had been her intention to sign up for the research expedition in a formal regard, but when she arrived at the site yesterday evening, she'd started absent mindedly glancing at some of the hieroglyphs along the walls and...well...one thing led to another. Before she could stop herself, she had her notebooks out and was working on making some rubbings of the scriptures to work on decoding. "I mean, its not like you can blame me for getting caught up in my work. Have you seen this place? I mean really, the stone looks to be early Quaternary or Holocene gypsum mixed with a latices of exotic minerals, then ground together and superseded into the clay structure? But its only at first glance that it appears that way! Its remarkable!" With every word she spoke, she was getting more and more excited, and her voice was raising higher in both pitch and speed at which she continued to chatter on "And the carvings. I mean, at first I said to myself 'self, there is some pretty obvious paleolithic inscription', but then I was all like 'woah! The carvings are actually done in relief, which wasn't popular as a tool work method for textual bases, not in that time period ayway.' I mean, I suppose you already know that" She blushed a little, realizing she was getting way ahead of herself and explaining the different lingusitic techinques to people who had had a pretty significant head start on examining the structer, as well as being more experianced. "I'll just...er...go wait by the sign I guess" And without hesitating to hear a response, she packed up her things and headed off to the recruitment station, and tried really, really hard not to get sidetracked again. Diana saw that she was not alone at the recruitment booth...er...recruitment wooden sign. Rather, Two gentleman had emerged from the crowded assortment of excavators and now were standing by to sign up. She paused a moment, making an effort to dust herself off. It was something of a futile gesture, since she'd accumulated a rather prominent layer of dust and topsoil, which smudged her face and arms, and had permeated into her clothing as well. Grime covered though she may be, the brown haired young woman still had the biggest smile plastered on her face. It was equal parts 'kid-in-a-candy-shop' and 'wide-eyed-enthusiasm'. Even at a glance you could tell she was just ecstatic to be here. "Hello there!" She said, merrily, with a small wave "Here to sign up as explorers? Er, I mean, thats kind of obvious right? Why else would you just be standing here...next to the sign" She gestured at the sign post "Well I suppose there are plenty of other people here, and they all have good reasons. I wouldn't want to imply your reasons arn't good here. I suppose I really shouldn't have started off supposing that you two were here as exporers. Its just that, well, you both kind of look the part so I was just thinking 'Hey I bet these two guys are looking to sign up to explore the ruins too!' And then I came over here and wanted to make a good first impresion and..." She hesitated, loosing a bit of momentum from her verbal avalanch "And then I just started yacking away to myself" Taking a deep breath, Diana made a very solid effort to slow down. "Sorry, I tend to do that. Its just this place is sooooo amazing? I mean just in the past hour I've identified soil samples from four major megalithic deposit sites, not to mention I got to overhear these two guys talking about pre-agricultural soil patterns and I was just all like 'Say Whaaat!?', Since you woulnd't expect soil to have any kind of predictable patterns, and That totally dosn't mess with the Clay vitrification of the entire region." Whatever efforts she was making to contain her exuberance and her vocabulary had already seemed to get lost in the excitment, and she was motering along at something close to two hundred words a minute "I mean it though, What are the odds of locating such an obviously meso-geometric inspired structure here of all places? Blows my mind just to ponder some of the culture insights we'll find deeper into the site! And...And..." She took a very deep breath and sighed "And I'm doing it again, arn't I?" With a very clear, visable effort, Diana held herself in place and forced out, slowly and clearly, a single additional sentence. "My name is Diana, its very nice to meet you both" Before giving an awakward and rather stiff bow out of respect, and to hide her prominent blush. |

Stefan stood and endured the strange woman's monologue, filled with terms and information he neither understood nor cared about. It was only halfway through it that he realized that she wasn't a recruiter, and it wasn't until after the end of it that he managed to react and attempt to disengage. He noted the woman's name but did not return her eccentric, unnecessary bow. "Stefan and Krieger," he muttered before trying to find a way around her and into the tent. He needed to get oriented, make sure he had a way to feed and house himself for the immediate future. Once those needs were addressed, well, maybe then he could make friends. |

A man in a jet black suit and a red tie strides up to base camp. He's rather short, and incredibly well put-together. He appraises the cavernous chamber, pausing to run his hands along the ancient carving of a Pokemon. Then, whipping out a small comb, he puts the final touches on his cropped, dirty-blonde hair. He then makes a beeline for the recruitment tent, opening the flap and sidling to the periphery of group. He hangs back, assessing the gathering, and trying to suss out who's in charge. Mechanics

A young man, tall with brown hair strides through the camp, easily navigating the various obstacles as if it's second nature. He's wearing dusty jeans, boots that are most likely steel-toed under their thick leather, a cream colored shirt and a well-worn brown leather jacket. He's carrying a backpack over one shoulder, and a brown fedora is resting on his head at a rakish angle. Following along behind him at a quick trot is a Trapinch that's navigating the various hazards with the same ease as its master, its huge mouth curved in a puckish grin. The man is appraising everything as he goes, even as he makes a beeline for the tent, Trapinch in tow. Spoiler: click to toggle

The singular opening to the center tent leads to a moderate size (for such an area), shop, with a number of archaeologists talking with a man in front. Well, calling him a man may be a bit too specific. A figure stands, wrapped fully from head to toe in heavy cloth cloaks, shows nothing but his eyes. He speaks, somewhat muffled, in a raspy voice, making him stand out like a soar thumb with the relatively normal archaeologists. A few are laughing and standing around, seemingly in a good mood. The man at the counter notices some people trickle in and opens his arms. "Ah, hello! Welcome to Merchant's shop! I am Merchant. You buy my goods, you do well. Just in time too, I sold out all my stock, only have *one* more rope and flashlight set. Person cannot go into the pyramid without rope and flashlight, is impossible." His words are broken and accented, but the gist is understandable enough. "I sell them, 600 for both!" Nobody else seems to be around besides the milling Archaeologists, recruiter or otherwise. |
