since the 'mon is named SYLVeon, not SLYPHeon, that seems a very weak argument. You might as well talk about how the Sluaghs were death spirits and say it's a ghost type. edit: I know that, but I was using the "fairy" egg group as a guide for how likely a pokemon was to be classified as fairy-like based on type. If you know a more inclusive list of pokemon declared to be fairy-like, I'll redo the analysis with that. Edited by planswalker, Feb 14 2013, 09:57 AM.

It's not a SLYPH. Its sylph. Sylph to sylv is really not that much a stretch. In fact, its less a stretch then just about every other pokemon name...at all. Thats like saying Zebstrika obviously can't be related to a zebra because it doesn't have the word 'zebra' in it. Changing a letter to a near-homophone isn't absurd in the slightest, as just about every pokemon in the game does it. <Not to mention with the already existant 'silph' co I imagine it would only make sense to change it.> Not to mention attempting to base speculation of type on naming convention makes a lot more sense than this 'egg group' argument. I was only pointing that out because people were saying that it had nymph in the name. It didn't, it had something hat could just as easily be 'ninth' by that reasoning. Now we know that nymph is also in the French name, but before it just looked illiterate. |

ah... my bad on that point about spelling. I misread it. My point is that you're saying "Hm... if we butcher the spelling, we get X! It's evidence that it's Y!" to use your zebstrika example, that's be like saying "Hm... 'Zeb' is awfully close to 'Zen'! Zebstrika must be about meditation!" ergo, such a line of speculation is specious. this "egg group" argument isn't trying to base type on egg group per se. Read closer. It's saying that if we see the naming convention and surmise that it's based on fairies, then Nintendo's bias for making "fairy" pokemon leans heavily towards normal-types and absolutely not towards bug-types. if you actually paid attention, you'll see that I discussed how I'm using the egg group because it's a convenient grouping of pokemon Nintendo classifies as "fairy-like". I explicitly said that if someone can find a better group of what pokemon are "fairy-like", I'll redo the analysis based on that group. if this is supposed to be a "fairy" eeveelution, it's gonna be a normal-type. |

Pretty sure it used Swift in that little trailer. Almost positive it's normal type. |

While we're at it, Sylveon is the only Eeveelution on the page to have visible fangs. Pretty thin fangs. I assume that's weak evidence for Poison, even weaker for Dragon. The name and the extapolation planswalker did are strong evidence for Normal. Edited by Yenek, Feb 16 2013, 03:41 AM.

would you like me to go through and analyze the type balance of fanged pokemon to show you why that speculation is nonsense? It makes about as much sense as saying that since there's some blue on it, that's a hint towards it being a water-type. |
