So can the Acro Bike. Oh dang, a necrobump. Now I have to say something constructive. um um um...... I don't think everything will be getting a mega-evolution, since you need to find the mega-item unique to that line. That said, I think mega-evolution is a rather silly concept, since it's only temporary. Mawile could have evolved normally and gotten better stats and stuff, but with this mega-evolution it has effectively doomed its chances of ever getting a regular evolution, which is a shame, really. It's almost like a death sentence. Oh, and Megamphabio is fabulous too I guess. Edited by DNA, Aug 19 2013, 10:04 PM.

Maybe not. If Megaevolutions are a flop, they might not be reintroduced in future generations, or some (Absol, Mawile, etc.) will be swapped for proper evolutions. |

Does anyone really think Fairy is going to balance Dragon out? The problem I think most people have coming up against dragons aren't the type advantage, but the excellent coverage that Dragons get plus their generally excellent stats. Fire, Fighting, and Ground all complement Dragons well and I run at least two of those type moves on every dragon I play. Sure, Megamawile seems like a choice Dragonkiller, but it sounds like it will end up being 4x weak to Fire, and unless Fairy is resistant to Fighting and Ground (and Dark), it has similar issues. Considering Ice and Steel were previously the only counters to Dragon, many people are probably accustomed to running Fire anyway. Dragonite gets Fire Punch. Salamence and Garchomp get Fire Fang. Flygon and Hydreigon get Flamethrower. The only 'big' dragons that don't get Fire Moves are Haxorus and Kingdra, and depending on the rest of the typing, Haxorus probably covers himself with the rest of his potent moveset. This is all purely conjecture, but I see a lot of people complaining about the dragon nerf in some of my other circles, and I really don't understand why. The claim was that Fire resists Fairy, not that Fairy is weak to Fire. In any way, we will know the exact details in two weeks, when Corocoro comes out. Edit: because they are no longer practically invincible and need more than a token effort to use? Edited by Yenek, Aug 31 2013, 07:11 AM.

While this is strictly true, we do see many times that a type ineffective on offense is also weak on defense to that type. There are many exceptions to that, granted, and steel in particular threw that dynamic out the window, but my point remains. Even if Fairy is not weak to Fire (what else do we expect it might be weak to?) its going to have to have a host of resistances to fill in the niche of dragonkiller. Of course, this is all mostly conjecture. As you said, we won't know for another two weeks. I'm just trying to promote discussion. |

Also, Ice is still going to be the predominant Dragonslayer attack type I think. The fact that the majority of dragons (or at least quite a few of them) are x4 weak to it means that Fairy will generally be relegated to niche roles in the metagame to counter pokemon like Kingdra that resist Ice. Even if both are SE on mons like Denio, Ice is probably going to have the superior coverage in most cases. This depends of course, on the distribution of fairy moves to non fairy pokemon. If they are very common, then dragon will quickly loose its throne. If they are relegated to fairy only mons on the whole, I believe the impact will be much less. |

The main appeal of Fairy is immunity to Dragon STAB, and I think it will do that well. |
