Um. It's hard to misinterpret "choking on poison gas" as not being immune to Poison...

but is poison immunity what they were trying to show with that?

Yes, they were specifically showing that she was not immune to Steel. It happened right after the Ice test (showing she is strong against Ice), and the Poison test was meant to examine if Sylveon was Steel type, and therefore immune to Poison. She was not, ergo the conclusion was Sylveon is not Steel.

Ever since Gen II the Pokémon fan-base have always speculated 'new type' theories. While I don't think a new type is needed or by this point a good idea I do believe that The Pokémon Company is simply playing off of the theories its fan-base has created. I'm not particularly knowledgeable in how it handles anything with its local fan-base (Japan) but this is the first time ever the game launches in multiple places in the world at the same time. Playing off of speculation to increase desire for the game may be a normal thing for them. Even if the end result is: Hah, no new type!

Personally, I'd be disappointed if it's a new type.
If it's a Steel type I will point to Mawile as my reference of making sense of it.
If it's Poison type, I will welcome it with open arms.
If it's Flying type I will go cry in a corner.
If it's Normal type I will squee like a 5 year-old girl on her birthday.

At this point with all the hype I can only imagine the possibilities are either a new type or a completely off-the-wall ability that throws weaknesses and resistances out of whack. Potentially a new kind of 'weather' akin to trick room or such. Should it be the latter I would bet on it being Normal type pokemon.

However I feel that chances are it's the former.

The fact that Eevee evos tend to be so obviously telegraphed, and that this one was released so early...I'm really starting to believe in this "fairy" type nonsense...

Strong against Ice....

For the love of FUCK I hope that means resists Ice, not is SE against it. Ice does NOT need more weaknesses!

Doxy: From the phrasing, I'm guessing not. Poor, poor ice types...

Are you kidding!? This is the type that harbors the infamous vanillite! I say how dare Ice try to be awesome! How dare Ice be super effective against the mighty dragons many of which are also flying or ground typed. Dragons should rule and dominate all in fact we should have more dragon leggie-god's just to show how bad-A dragons are. Arceus's boss should be a dragon, and all Ice types that are not dragons should burn in hell(or at least melt.)/JK, sarcasm, joking
