Just to point out, Steel doesn't resist Poison, it's immune to Poison. As proven via the Dark/Ghost typing, immunity doesn't equal resistance as Dark/Ghost is still weak to Fighting despite being immune to it (bypassing immunity shows with with moves like Odor Sleuth or the Scrappy ability).

So, I wouldn't dismiss Steel as a typing just because it's not resistant to Poison. Could be immune to it for all we know.

Actually, when they were "testing" Sylveon on Smash!, what they did for Poison was put a helmet or something on the Sylveon's head and filled it with "poison gas". It wasn't resistant/immune, so it's pretty assured it's not a Steel type.

Back on topic, I speculate Sylveon is a new type. It hardly looks like a rock or fire Pokemon, and as BatrioAtrain pointed out, it's not likely fire because we have Flareon. I'm all in favor of the light type, but I'm willing to wait and see.
if it pulls a sort of zen mode or other forme changing trick it could get away with rock type, but it would be pretty stupid for an eevee to have a forme changing evo.

um, Baitro...

rock resists poison. By the same logic you use to rule out steel, rock is not an option.

according to your logic, it's either fire, nothing, or a new type.

However, having seen the video, I'm very hesitant to make any assumptions based on that. Nothing is explained in it and I still stand by normal. I stake my pantsatar's life on it.

Okay I made a mistake, the "test" showed that it wasn't IMMUNE to Poison. The people on Smash! had it chop a block of ice in half, and according to the sources I checked, the intent of the Poison test was to see if it was immune to it (aka checking if it was Steel), which it was not immune. So it's neither Fighting or Steel. Sorry xD

They wouldn't be this coy about the type if it wasn't something ground-breaking. From a PR perspective, it would be hilariously bizarre to stage this protracted guessing game and have it end with something like Normal or Flying.

I have to agree, while I don't see the need for a new type, they are either seriously over-hyping Sylveon's type, or Sylveon is a new type. Though I wouldn't rule out over-hyping...

I wonder how a (possibly) new type will affect both the VG metagame and power levels in PTX.

no, you see, all that is people's INTERPRETATION of what those "tests" mean. They're still not giving us straight answers.

Agreed plans. As it stands, until Nintendo comes out and tells out what the little bugger's type is, I'm not taking any of the "new type" theories as anything but someone's wacked out pipe dream.
