I know I haven't completed my first supplement, the Glitchdex (at least not in a viewable sense, at least, but I'll work on that sometime), but I've already begun my second one, a supplement I'm sure everyone here will enjoy. Basically, I'm going to be taking every existing Gym Leader and modifying their pokemons' stats, allowing for existing Leaders to be battled at any point in a trainer's adventures fairly (for the most part). Want your adventure to start in Celadon City and have Erika be your trainers' first Gym challenge? It'll be easier than ever when I'm done. Plus I'll even include the system I'm using to calculate levels and things so that custom Leaders can be made using this system. I'm so thoughtful. I'll have no problem statting out the pokemon, but the problem is the Leaders themselves. I'm not an expert at Trainer Classes at all, so that might take a little while. I've already worked out all of the Kanto Leaders' pokemon levels so far, and hope to have all of the rest of the levels done by the end of the weekend. I hope that this will be something useful for everybody, and not just a huge waste of my time.

Well if you're working from the given character creation method (and why shouldn't you?), it seems to me gym leaders could be built easily enough using a set character formula, given what their job is: At the beginning, prioritize Strength, Constitution, and Dexterity. Whether you should give them all the maximum fourteen points depends on how high of a level you want them to be when fought, but investing in these three will allow them to gain appropriate classes: 1) Ace Trainer: Type Ace. Of tantamount importance since it's related to their primary function in the core series, and it's also an easy enough class to gain from the start, since it Stat requirements can be achieved right at character creation and the "4 of a Type" requirement can be fulfilled by default if you just give them Pokemon. (In other words, they don't need to go through the challenge of catching them.) Naturally, their chosen type would be the sorts of Pokemon they have in the games; ie, Rock for Brock, Water for Misty, Electricity for Lieutenant Surge, etc. 2) Martial Artist: Athlete. Since they run a gym and function as "Boss" characters, this seems the appropriate second Class. It's also pretty viable as a second Class, since the character's strength already has to be high to attain the first Class. 3) Varies. This one depends upon the more individual identities of the Gym Leaders. I would be happy to assist you in creating these characters' stats; ever since I found out about this game I have been most interested in reading the Character Creation bits from cover to cover, so at this point I know it pretty well. |
