In my recent PTU campaign...there are moments. (In fact, the only two nicknames this one player has for his pokemon came out of inside jokes between me and him.) In the session I had last night, one player sent out a Pangoro against a Kadabra, which only knew Confusion. Therefore, whenever it used Struggle, I basically said that it hit it with its spoons, shortened to 'Spooning'. ![]() Trying to keep things away from hentai, though...for now. (At least until my players battle my GM insert's Malamar.) |

One of my PTU groups just managed to diplomance a hive of Durant into a peaceful resolution to the situation that everyone thought would have to result in combat. I think our GM is a little shocked that it worked. I am too. |

In my group, these kinds of things are par for the course - because we always like to forgo combat over good RP. That said, very well done calming an otherwise-hostile ant stampede. |

This happened in recent encounter in a PTU campaign I'm playing in. We had cut a hole in a door we couldn't open, and something started wobbling out of the hole we made. It was an ooze. More specifically a gelatinous cube. By ooze I mean a crazy flesh devouring blob of goo, from the pathfinder/D&D world. (I assume) Before it could make its way to our side, My Octillery fired an ice beam at it and froze it solid. We then wailed on it before it finally thawed, moving toward us ravenously. Continuing to wail on it with all of our might, it grabbed our two pokemon. The Kadabra teleported away easily, but my poor Octillery was trapped inside of it. When it came to his turn, he had a chance to try and escape or attack. He fired another ice beam and ended up freezing it again from the inside, freezing himself as well. While frozen the ooze couldn't eat away at his flesh, but he also couldn't move. This continued for 4-6 more rounds. The ooze would thaw at the end of it's 2nd turn, and he would freeze on it before it could act. We finally managed to destroy the blob, without harming him. He is has been henceforth named Octogon, Frigid Artillery of Slime Slaying. Also Ice Beam has earned a permanent slot on his move list. Edited by NickKnack, Aug 18 2014, 09:51 AM.

In my last session my players had just finished fighting a local gang and raided their hideout for supplies. Upon discovering thirty gallon sized bags of marijuana one of my players decided to take all of it. He then realized that he needed to get rid of it before returning to his job at the local Pokemon Gym because the smell was overpowering and the leader is a Lawful Good type, so while he was shopping in the shady side of town he found someone willing to buy all of his weed. He had another party member with him so they agreed to split the profit. They agreed to meet their customer in an alley behind a diner off the turf of the local kingpin. They passed their guile checks to casually move through the crowd, rolled a knowledge medicine check to determine a reasonable price. He was about to finish the deal when he realized that he had no way to give his customer such a large quantity of weed without giving up his backpack. So he flung open a dumpster in the alleyway, dumped some garbage out of a garbage bag, and tossed the weed in there. His customer slung the garbage bag over his shoulder like Santa Claus, paid them each a cool 5000, and ran along on his merry way. As an added bonus, he smelled like garbage the rest of the session to cover up the marijuana smell, much to the revulsion of every NPC he met. The whole farce took like an hour. I wasn't anticipating my players to make a drug deal but you never can predict what happens in these games, can you? |

What did you expect them to do with the marijuana though? And I'm honestly surprised they didn't try to smoke it. |

I actually didn't really expect them to take it, I put it there as fluff next to the actual prize. At worst I figured someone would try to smoke it, they'd get high, and they'd have to roll a couple of focus checks next time they wanted to do something. |

We had an incredible experience last night in my PTA campaign. The party of a Researcher, Martial Artist, Mystic, and Psychic are exploring the Pokemon Mansion on Cinnabar Island. They wander around, fight some Grimer, play around with the door puzzle, the Psychic's Phasing ability sees some use. They eventually make it to the basement, where all the broken machinery is. The Psychic detects an incredible amount of psionic residue all over the place, so much that it causes her to cry out in shock. Her cry attracts the attention of a group of Ditto. So the party gears up to fight some Ditto, with the Martial Artist charging in with his Magikarp, because of course the Martial Artist has a Magikarp. Also, as the fight begins, the Martial Artist privately informs me that his Magikarp has recently hit level 20, and is waiting for a good moment to evolve. An evil idea enters my mind. So the party quickly faints the first of five Ditto. The remaining four, seeing the Martial Artist as the largest threat, all Transform into him. The MA is immensely flattered, and the fight continues. So a second Ditto drops, and now the remaining three have gotten desperate. And as it turns out, the MA has taken the Black Belt class. Which means he knows Close Combat. Which means the Ditto also know Close Combat now. Two Close Combats later, the MA is on the floor, at -29 HP. It is here that I send a message to the MA's player: "Go for it" The Magikarp, witnessing its beloved trainer get the everloving kicked out of him, proceeds to evolve into a Gyarados in order to avenge him. There is now a rampaging Gyarados on the field. It bites one of the Ditto in half, immediately fainting it. The battle continues, with the Researcher capturing the fourth Ditto, and the last one falling to the combined efforts of a Nidorina, a Gyarados, and a Litwick. Now there's only one problem. There's an enraged Gyarados in the basement with them, and its trainer is unconscious. As I start preparing the Gyarados' stats for the boss battle, the party tries various methods to calm it down. The Researcher tries using Field Commander to order it to stand down. I tell him to make a CHA check. He rolls a natural 1, and succeeds in getting the Gyarados' attention. The Mystic tries to channel the Gyarados, but fails the check by 8. The Psychic calls out her Staryu, and orders it to use Thunderbolt. So at this point, the MA's player is actively (and privately) helping me stat up this boss battle. To keep the Thunderbolt from one-shotting the Gyarados, we decide to triple its HP, and give it max combat stages in its defensive stats. We were originally going to give it max stages in all stats, but that would've given it 75 Attack, which was... a little extreme. We also gave it three actions per round, to balance out the 3 vs 1 situation it was in. So the Gyarados loses 116 of its 153 HP. What follows is a brutal battle against an enraged monster snake. Thanks to the boosted defense stats, most attacks against the Gyarados do no damage. Furthermore, if the Gyarados misses an attack, it hits the wall, dealing structural damage and causing part of the ceiling to collapse on the trainers, dealing damage anyway. The Gyarados is finally defeated when the Mystic sends out her Drifloon. The Gyarados immediately bites it, faints it, and loses the remainder of its HP to Aftermath. With the threat finally passed, the party takes a moment to rest and revive the unconscious Martial Artist. What follows is everyone scolding him for allowing this whole mess to happen. It eventually leads to this exchange, as they try to explain what happened with the Gyarados: Researcher: You know the name Gyarados. Martial Artist: I have heard the name. The stories. *MA rolls a natural 20 WIS* Martial Artist: ... oh. Fun times! |

Okay. So, one of my players was taking on the Fighting Gym with his Elgyem out front. Now, this pokemon has pretty decent defenses considering, so when he went against a Primeape which uses Assurance, I thought (even considering the super-effectiveness multiplier) that the damage would not be enough to KO it.... Until I rolled a nat 20. For the record, he then proceeded to completely own the gym leader in a later battle. |
