Started running a solo campaign with my gf to test the system. She doesn't know pokemon at all, so I gave her a Pichu as a starter, because she knew Pikachu and thought it was adorable. She and her two childhood friends, a breeder and capture specialist, finally leave their town to go explore the world, when they come across an igglybuff in the road, which knocks them all out with Sing. When they all finally wake up, they find themselves in a battle of babies. The road is blocked by not only Igglybuff, but also a Budew, and a Happiny. And an Adamant Bonsly. She has Pichu use thunder shock on Bonsly (which it takes easily) and then the Bonsly rushes at the poor thing, flailing. Critical hit. Instant decapitation. Her starter was killed in a single hit. The capture specialist caught ALL of the babies, and traded the Happiny to her for an I.O.U. which eventually turned into a Bidoof. Excellent start to an excellent campaign, and a perfect chance for role play.

This years campaign is all homebrew Fakemon, and about 10 different PCs exploring the newly-discovered region in 2 groups of 5. One group found an ancient temple that has been reclaimed by a cult of the Death God legendary (my players were not aware of this at the time). They enter the giant underground chamber which ends up being rows of seats all leading down to the center where there is an altar, some candlesticks, and some gold artifacts. Earlier in the temple, the leader of this group grabbed a sword they found while looking around.
The wildcard character decides that even though they've got their own lights (in the form of flashlights and Glow Pokemon), he's going to light the candles. And the leader decides, hey, I should totally cut my hand open and smear blood on the altar just to see what happens.
So the God of Death appears, the PCs and the Death God have a chat, the leader of the group tries to argue with the Death God, sparking a battle, and when she strikes the Death God personally (not using Pokemon), the Death God decides to attack her back.
Needless to say, poor Lady Anne was Heavy Slammed to death. Definitely most memorable for me because it was the first time I've killed off a player character.

Just had a rather crazy bit of whiplash.

While my players were off on other adventures, leaving behind their Snagger at their hometown (the player had decided to leave the game for a while), a relatively minor big bad had come in and mindslaved the town. He was essentially a suped up Mystic, and was able to possess the entire town at once (except for the region's prof, for silly reasons). Naturally, this also snatched the Snagger.

When they came back, they had gotten a hold of a Master Ball by use of a distinctive strategy. They got involved in a fight with the now mind-controlled Snagger. Now, at about this time, the Snagger's player is ready to rejoin the game, and I allow it, once the crisis is over and the Snagger is no longer mind-controlled. During this fight, the players use a similar method to try and stop the Snagger from using an item. The Snagger's mind-master, however, is reading his mind and feeding info to the Snagger...

Which includes knowledge of The Master Ball, a holy grail that, in-character, would consume the Snagger's thoughts FOREVER. So, I offer a will save. Nat 20. Okay.

Now, I only include this in the description because of what happens later.

So, the Snagger joins the players, except for two: The Rune Master is back protecting the Professor in his lab (player wasn't able to make it), the Psychic has encountered and decides to try and defeat his mind-slaved parents. The Parents proceed to win against him 2 on 1. His life is kinda in a Shrodinger's Meowth situation here (depending on a few dice rolls and how long it takes the players to defeat the boss and free everyone, he may or may not be dead. Can't say for sure, since I'm keeping it secret and my players are forumites here.). It... is a bit scary and exciting (first time possibly killing a PC human, and it's the one I thought I'd never be able actually challenge).

And so I go back to the rest of the party. Over the course of the battles with the Snagger and between the Psychic and his parents, two things are happening:

1: The party makes their way to the Gym, where the boss is, and where his Mindslaved Honchkrow and Gym Leader are waiting to waylay them.

2: The Boss is using Buffet Feats to prepare to pass on a load of buffs to his Honchkrow. Yes, a little cheap, but I've found that most of our battles don't last that long anyway. I was only able to get 3 of the two-stat-boosting feats off before the players reached the Gym, anyway. Still enough to get Supreme Presence, but not Supreme Intimidation. Ah well.

So the fight begins, and the boss sends his buffs, and here I am, with this mad plan more or less ready to go...

And the Snagger gets (a homebrewed replacement for one of the other Snagger Feats) Feat Version of Snatch off as the boosts are transferred.

All the boosts. Gone. No. Not just gone. STOLEN. And handed to his Lapras.

I couldn't stop laughing. I still can't. I hadn't planned for that. Suddenly, my super-buffed Honchkrow and his buffed minions have gone from extremely dangerous to kinda underwhelming.

And honestly? I'm not even mad. I can't be, no matter how hard I tried. Good game, Snagger. Good game.

The best part was the Boss' reaction of "What sorcery is this?!" that was sent out through the controlled Honchkrow's telepathic abilities.

I couldn't help myself and replied: "Not sorcery. SCIENCE, BITCH!" I am easily amused.

Silly as in "humorous," or silly as in "no real reason, just plot"? Because if the former, I demand details.

...normally, I'd say you really didn't want to know, but...

From the game

Prof: "Please. I've built up an immunity to mind control." He says with a deadpan.
Alex (me): "..."
John: "There's a story there, I just *know* it."
Alex simply nods along with John.
Tyson (nofunguy) : "It's doable, admittedly it's tricky but doable. So we need to exorcise the Honchkrow's spirit, ideas?"
Prof: "... HAHAHA. Actually, I just wear this all the time." He pulls out a small amulet from under his clothes. "Evil begone!"
John stares at the amulet. Then snaps his fingers. "Cleanse tags!"
"...I still wonder Professor, I still wonder," Alex shakes his head to focus back on the task. "What about the Leader of the Ghost-type gym? And how are we going to get that many Cleanse Tags?"
Tommy spends several moments staring hard at the Professor.
Prof (rambling on as always... :D ) : "Trust me. Never date a Psychic. Or a Mystic. Especially a bodysnatching one." He looks at Tyson. "No offense."

There's a reason why my character still wants to work with the Professor in the lab one day, but alas, he can never be a professor himself, no tree-themed name...oh and the whole "connected to the Unown" thing too.

From the campaign:
Researcher: "Wait. Professor, is there some kind of shielding in your lab or something? Why weren't you controlled?"
Prof: "Please. I've built up an immunity to mind control." He says with a deadpan. "... HAHAHA. Actually, I just wear this all the time." He pulls out a small amulet from under his clothes. "Evil begone!"
Aura User: *spends several moments staring hard at the Professor.*
Prof: "Trust me. Never date a Psychic. Or a Mystic. Especially a bodysnatching one." He looks at (The Psychic). "No offense."

I guess I have one. Note that it isn't exactly from a campaign - I can't call the Battle Castle anything different than a gigantic coliseum - but what happened was funny enough that I feel it bears repeating.

Also, it's PTU. Don't kill me for this being in the wrong topic, but I didn't see a PTU memorable moments thread.

I control the 'Boss', who is basically the equivalent of a Frontier Brain. My newest challenger - an Underdog who is very fond of Orders. I know Underdogs can do rather unexpected things, so I decide to play it safe. Note: the rules for this fight are each side can only use 3 Pokemon total, and the object is, simply, to knock out the other guy's team completely.

The Underdog leads with a Skitty, intending to do some sort of shenanigans. The Boss leads with a Gengar who has a very big malicious streak. The map is Fog of War, which is perfect for the Gengar - it lets him do basically what he wants. The Underdog was playing on the defensive, basically saying, in effect, she didn't want the Gengar doing what Gengars do best.

Her Skitty and her Ferroseed were the first 2 Pokemon out, and though the Gengar scored several critical hits (only 2 of his 5 attacks didn't roll high enough), all of them were blocked due to either Battle Armor or Defense Curl, though he was still doing a crapton of damage, and managed to KO the Underdog's first 2 Pokemon effortlessly, while still remaining at a little over half HP.

Finally, the Underdog's resources almost exhausted (and AP almost gone), she sends out her last, a Tympole. Of course, the Gengar (whose name is Paulie, in honor of the webcomic This Serious) laughs at it. If a Skitty and Ferroseed can't do much, what would make a Tympole do any better?

Quote:

Paulie: "That's IT?"
Temper: > : D
Paulie: "Against insurmountable odds you throw a tadpole at me!? What am I supposed to do, let it grow up?"

The above box lets you get a feel for his personality. He shouts remarks like that whenever he gets a chance.
Anyway, the Tympole uses Rain Dance, while the Gengar fires off an Energy Ball against the Tympole. Natural 20. Turns out the Tympole is ALSO immune to critical hits, and only barely survives. Gengar isn't worried. He's got this in the bag. The Underdog then proceeds to use Poised and Constructive Criticisms plus Forceful Command (this was done back in 1.03), in a last-ditch effort to take the Gengar out.

And...well, rather than tell you, I'll just give you the log excerpt. (Melinda is the Underdog, Temper is the Tympole, Paulie is the Gengar, and Nick is a spectator.)

Quote:

Melinda King: "Temper. You can win this! Please!"
Melinda King has received initiative.
Melinda King: "I used up all my item uses, Temper. Please, put Paulie down!"
* Melinda King performs words of encouragement! ((Poised + Constructive Criticism + Forceful Command))
Temper has received initiative.
Paulie: "Good luck. You'll need it! Eeeheheheh!!"
* Temper doesn't move and fires a hydro pump at Paulie! « 1d20-3+2 = 18 - 3 + 2 = 17 » vs. Sp.Def Eva!
Temper: (( Critical! ))
DNA: Ooh, interesting. Go ahead and roll.
Temper: « 6d12+55+6d12+55+21+5 = 55 + 55 + 25 + 55 + 21 + 5 = 216 » Special Water Damage!
Paulie: "Ah, fucking hell."
* Paulie took the attack. ALL OF IT.
Paulie: Paulie loses 195 hit points.
* Paulie was hit so hard he dissipated into a black mist.
Nick: "!!!!!"
The Boss: "Well done."
* The Boss applauded Melinda and Temper.

Crit Hydro Pump in the rain not only broke the record for the highest roll (and highest damage) caused at once, it shot him from >50% HP to <-100% HP in a single blow. As many would say, that bitch Gengar got what was coming to him.

But the story doesn't end there. The Underdog is still at a disadvantage; she only has the Tympole left while the Boss has 2 more to go at full strength. He chooses a Starmie which is notorious for dodging almost everything. Tympole set up an opportunity to use Aqua Ring, and from there, it got...interesting. Both of them missed almost all of their attacks against each other; the rolls at that point went from really high most of the time to really low. Well, kinda.

First turn when they're actually in range of each other, Tympole misses. Second turn, Starmie misses and Tympole crits the Starmie, putting it to a little above half. Starmie, concerned, uses Recover to put its health to full again, and the Tympole misses. Next turn, Starmie hits with Energy Ball, taking off another large chunk of its HP - the Tympole survives due to the Aqua Ring, but it now has 3 injuries. Tympole responds with another crit against the Starmie, and at this point the Underdog is out of AP. Starmie can't recover from this one, so it tries to attack again, and misses. Tympole attacks again, critting again (this time a natural 20, instead of the 18s and 19s that were rolled before, because Orders) and making the Starmie go under from the third crit against it, pun slightly intended.

There isn't much to say after that, because the Boss's last mon presumed to knock the Tympole into next week, unfortunately. Melinda (Underdog) didn't win, but that was the glorious story of how a Tympole managed to make an amazing comeback and fired off 4 critical hits in a single fight.

Never underestimate what Orders can do.

Hm. Is it okay if I move this to the GD, pin it, and rename it a Memorable Pokemon Tabletop Moments thread? I doubt anyone would care, but just checking.
