Pokémon Trainer
[ * * * * * ]
Our campaign classes consist of and ace trainer, a mystic, a ranger, and me a medic.
while far into our adventuring the ace trainer decided to go fishing and by our surprise a gyarados appears on the end of his line. He only has water pokemon, the gyarados decides to attack our trainer biting him in his side, so out of desperation he smashes a pokeball on its head, (rolls his dice) and without even hurting it, catches it!
from there the trainer floats to the shore injured and passed out from blood loss. the players take him to the hospital and after some time of waiting he awakes, the medic not being around at the time shows up at the hospital.
++(back story on this medic)++ this medic is a pervert, very low INT, and STR, very high CHA and WIS.
(ok back to the story)
the medic shows up in the hospital room and tries to womanize one of the nurses and fails, then the trainer wakes up and decides to ask for one last dose of medicine so he can feel well. the medic decides to ask for medicines that could help with our adventures. the nurse says she will try to help us out at the front desk, so as a team we decide to leave the hospital, on the way out the medic does a roll for "doctor jackets" he of course finds them then decides to steal five of them and the ranger tries rolling to convince him not to, fail. the medic steals five jackets and convinces his team to put them on too, several people and nurses ask about the jackets and if we are even doctors, this continues till the head doctors show up with security. everyone takes off their jackets except the medic, he decides to run. the ranger decides to try and catch him, but trips and lands on his face. the medic still running keeps running into people who want to stop him then a few rolls later he fails, the gentleman are then set down infront of the chairman, the old lady head nurse, and the security guys. the medic then decides to roll and see if he can keep his jackets trying to convince them that he is a doctor, his EXACT roll was to see if he can keep the jackets and to get the head nurses number... (NAT 1) he doesnt get anything expect told he can never come back to that hospital and thrown out.
all in one session!

Here's a new one that just happened tonight, and I absolutely had to share.

I'm running a Wild Child, just because I love the flavor of it. My character was lost in the wilds for about 10 years before the trainers of our party managed to find him. They're slowly teaching him English (which is a pain to RP, but hella fun), and we met up with Brock. The Ace trainer in our party totally whoops him, but I can't challenge him because my class is illegal in sanctioned fights. As a consolation prize, he gives me a chance to win the badge by completing a task for him. Apparently there's some trouble up north with Rockets.

We make it through the swamp easily, but the entire world quickly turned to ice and snow. Confused, we managed to find a village (after a brief stop for a snowball fight - did I mention how playfully naive I am?) and we asked what was going on. Apparently they've been suffering from snow lately, but it isn't a very big deal. They get it frequently. Unfazed, we ask about the rockets and are easily directed to their local hideout, since the rockets have been trying to extort protection money from them.

Knowing where they are, we jump them and find out that they weren't actually rockets. Just chumps taking advantage of the Rocket's bad name and the Village's weak nature. They're dispatched easily and we start back. I, in my playful self, try to start another snowball fight, but my team mate ignores me. Then a large shadow passes over us. We roll to see what just passed by, and I hit the necessary mark to catch a glimpse.

I see the Articuno pass over us.

It loops once after it passes us, and is about to come back for a second dusting of snow before returning to the village (where we think it lives - the villagers were hiding something). I stop to think about what my character would do. The Ace trainer runs for cover, thinking it's attacking. I finally reach a decision: while everyone else is running for their lives from this legendary pokemon, I bend over and make a snowball. Everyone at our table stares in disbelief as I roll to hit. The GM, laughing, says "Well, it WAS doing a low pass. Roll a crit." So I did. Nat' 20. Hit the Articuno with a snowball just as it passed.

The GM stared silently as she rolled a few more dice. She sighed and told me that the 'cuno slowed immediately, then landed in front of me, though it was facing away from me. Her tone did not sound happy about it. The Ace trainer grabs our Pokedexes (he was holding mine for a little while) to 'dex the Legendary Bird. While he does, I stare silently at my character sheet. My character would totally throw another snowball, despite it probably causing me to die. I certainly didn't want to metagame, so I was absolutely screwed. My character reached down, grabbed the snow, and threw another snowball. "Roll to hit." Another crit. Everyone sighed and started to apologize. The GM shook her head and rolled another dice. This is what she told me:

"The Articuno turns to look at you, her head cocked to the side. She spreads her wings in a dazzling display of grace and beauty before flapping once. The resulting gust of wind knocks you off your feet as hundreds of perfectly formed snowballs bury you up to your waist."

I then proceeded to have a good five minute snowball fight with the Articuno (losing terribly and loving every minute of it). My character was giggling happily after the legendary bird finally took wing and disappeared into the sky, despite me being covered in snow and wet from head to toe. The Ace trainer never moved, his mouth agape from a mixture of disbelief and horror. The Village Chief has a similar look on his face when we tell him, though he at least helps me getting dry. He then relates the entire story to Brock. We get back to the gym and the squinty gym leader starts to chew me out, but eventually breaks into laughter at my sheer naivete and gives me the Boulder Badge for being "As unshakable as a rock in the face of a greater challenge."

Best. Day. Ever. :D

It's a good thing your character didn't add rocks to his snowballs or that Articuno might have been in trouble!

I feel I should post the latest episode from my adventures.

Picking up from where we last left off. With Vlad safely in the custody of the Excelsior City Gym Leader, the party decided to take care of some preparations. To start off, the party surprised me with some clever thinking to create a new weapon for Mord- combining some scrap parts together via the technical know-how of the Party's Engineer and Researcher and enlisting the help of a Nincada and Beedrill, they created a pair of gauntlets that grant the person who equips them the "Threaded" capability. Enter Mord, the newly born Spiderman. I ruled that they grant no damage bonus, however.

By the time they had completed the new gauntlets and tested them out, adding a "fuel gauge" so Mord knows how much webbing he has left, it was getting late. The other party members headed out for the cemetery for an attempt at getting some ghost Pokemon while Mord and Trent geared up, being sure to cover their faces. With the new gauntlets, Mord pulled himself and Trent up the side of the Police HQ, getting inside via Teleport. Once inside, they raided the office for information, and Trent pulled out a few clarsentient features. Here's what they found: Papers detailing a series of transactions made between Police Chief Gant and someone named "Keith", including a building permit and "labor". An image of a man in a lab coat with an orange bowl cut and glasses (via Days Passed). An image of Gumshoe receiving a cut in his pay for losing the suspect (also via Days Passed).

Quickly, they place everything back as it was, then use the elevator to look for some files on members of the police force, specifically Gant. The file is present, but empty. They then sneak into the Criminal Records office, and find Gumshoe, rifling through one of the file cabinets. Despite terrible stealth rolls, Gumshoe is too pumped about the latest information he's dug up on the case, and misses them entirely grabbing two files as he rushes out the door. They look at the files to figure out whats missing (one was obviously "Mord", a result of his earlier kidnapping and thievery shenanigans, the other presumably under "Ma"), then book it out using teleport and the gauntlets again.

While they were out, Gumshoe apparently stopped by the Pokemon Center looking for Trent. He supposedly had something important to give him. From there, the day ended.

As everyone woke up and talked about what to do next, there was a phone call for Mord. Chan had been talking with Skull, and they agreed to have a meet-up in the middle of the city- the plaza in front of the Department Store. Surprisingly unconcerned, the party made some preparations at the GTS, Daycare, and Move Tutor. Mord worked on a costume to go with his new toys.

When the moment of truth arrived, the party gathered in the plaza. The whole area was filled with members of the dojo on one side and members of the gym on the other. Most of the party stood guard around the tent while Mord and Trent entered. Mord sat down next to his adopted father as his second-in-command. The two leaders made sure everyone was ready, and then announced the real reason for this meeting- bait. Cue Gant, walking in with a small army of police officers in full riot gear. He walks calmly into the tent, announcing his "worry that a fight might break out". He wouldn't want to have to arrest them, after all. He smiles at Trent and essentially goads him, giving him "one last shot" to crack the case. Cue Psyche Locks. With some deducing, Trent managed to work out the following: Police Chief Gant has been working with Team Rocket, helping a building permit slip by so they could build their factory, and in return, receiving a very "special" worker. His business negotiations have been with Keith, a Team Rocket Scientist who made the blueprints for both the factory in this town and the bomb that was going to blow up the tree in the Evergreen Forest. His plan? Arrest both Gyms for starting a turf war in the middle of the city, allowing himself to fill the power vacuum created.

Exposed to all, Gant realized the tables had turned. Thankfully, he still had one last little trick up his sleeve- a smoke bomb that exploded with a loud BANG! The two gyms outside immediately jumped to protect their leaders, resulting in the police moving in to try and take charge of the situation. A short chase after Gant through the crowd ensued, but came to a screeching halt when a shadow oozed its way over the horizon.

So, something I missed in my last post- the boss battle against Vlad had taken place on a catwalk over a giant vat of toxic ooze. Trent, who had ventured into the sewers earlier to capture a Grimer, witnessed several wild Grimer drinking the ooze runoff in the sewers below and starting to glow slightly green. During the battle with Vlad, a Poke Ball fell from his belt and into the ooze. The result? Giant toxic blob monster.

In response to such a huge creature, Spira the Munchlax (belonging to the Criminal, Jack) immediately grabbed its trainer and ran into the department store, dragging Jack with it, eventually stopping on at the food court where it stuffed its face with amazing speed.

Back to the ground. Dederic and Elizabeth, having brained their way through every single situation thus far, decide to try and figure out if the monster is basic or acidic. After some tests, they decide it is in fact basic, and ask Ranger David to rally the otherwise disorganized gyms and policemen. He gets them to work together to pull a large number of acidic items from the department store, which one of the policemen (who had a spinarak) sets up a slingshot using string shot and his riot sheild attached to 2 lampposts. Dederic has his Kangaskahn rip up another lampost, and then he and Elizabeth order their Flaafy and Elekid respectively to pump it full of wattage. Panzer the Kangaskahn then hucks the metal rod into the monster, where it slowly sinks in.

Meanwhile, Mord is busy going 1v1 with Gant. He's doing well, thanks to his Heracross and use of Double Team. Then Gant starts dropping more Pokemon, and they all focus on Mord, getting him in a bit over his head. Dederic sends Panzer to help. David starts using the slingshot to huck barrels of acidic stuff into the monster.

At the top of the department store, Jack has gotten bored of watching Munchlax eat. He helps Dederic by sending him the supplies for maltov cocktails to throw at the blob, then goes searching the building without Spyra. As he does, the celing begins to crumble and shake. Shift point of view to everyone outside- a GARGANTUAN Snorlax bursts out of the (thankfully empty) department store, destroying the whole building. Jack is riding on its shoulder. Elizabeth, having taken Photographer, immediately takes a shot of it. Noticing its new playtoy, the blob and Snorlax begin trading punches. After a while, Jack realizes Tackle won't do him much good, so he calls for the move that has saved him time after time: Metronome. He rolls. Dynamic Punch. Not only does he hit, but Snorlax hits the metal rod Dederic and Elizabeth had been charging up, releasing the energy all at once into a creature weakened by the acid barrels. The creature faints, Snorlax returns to a normal size, as the city cheers. Now that the monster is taken care of, Dederic and David rush to a very thankful Mord's aid, and Gant is finally defeated.

We need a game log archives section.

So, I recently reached the first Gym in my game. It's a Ground Gym, so my Squirtle starter would be good, right? The GM told me I needed to go grind or else I'd get destroyed. I smiled and nodded, sending my character into the Gym.

When I arrive and prepare for the battle, the GM sends out a Hippopotas. The rest of the party at this point thinks I'm crazy. Then I send out my Caterpie. The party actually thinks I'm insane at this point.

The fight starts. By using Threaded to keep out of range I just keep spamming String Shot. The GM looks at me like I'm an idiot. Lowering the Speed stages of a Pokemon wouldn't help me win, right?

I hit four rounds in a row. The GM, clearly frustrated he can't hit me, sends the Hippopotas right at me. I roll and hit with String Shot one more time. I pull up the Wiki, and point at the String Shot rules as I Thread far our of the range of Bite.

The GM just sat there, completely amazed. Since I had technically made the Hippopotas unable to battle, the Gym Leader gave me the win.

And that is how I beat the first Gym with a Caterpie and without doing any damage.

I am in the same TR game as Esprit and Arcran, I play Ethan the Researcher. I'd like to add another from that game.

It was the first mission and the kid (who eventually got killed) had the mon we needed. We decide to make a crackpot story about the mon (a Super Slugma) being unstable and would eventually cause a nuclear meltdown. So Ethan and the HB go to the kid (in disguise). I open up with a bunch of sciency talk to be convincing and authentic. Roll Cha. Get a 3. The kid laughs and says, in effect, "LOL! NO!". In comes the HB, saying nearly the same thing I did, with less science. Rolls Cha. 24. The kid freaks and says he has to think about it. Which leads to the HB loosing his legs as said earlier in the thread.

Another game I'm in, playing a Cap Spec/Juggler/Ninja. We are in some Atlantis-esque ruins (ancient but super advanced). We run into a giant robot lady computer thing, that is corrupted by either being really old or corrupted by glitched Porygon (not quite sure). She (and some turrets) attack us. My Cap Spec (Lorenzo) decides to run up her body, stand on her boob and through a plot device (some weird shard thingy with the consciousness of some old adventurer), into her eye (which was missing because she was an old ass computer). Crit. I disable half her moves and deal an 1/8th of her HP in 1 attack. She took quite a beating after that, so 1/8th was incredible amount of damage for an arms attack at level 6 that isn't a WM.

Same game, same character. We were heading towards the next town. Late at night, we are awaken by a unusual thunderstorm. It was small (we could see the entire storm). It would go around, seemingly at random, till it headed straight towards us. It turns out the storm was caused by Raikou, who was fleeing an evil dude. OOC we were told this guy was extremely high leveled, he expected us to flee. It was also the Lieutenant of the Big Bad (which says something about the big bad). The dude had Raikou cornered between a Rhyperior (Lightningrod of course), a Aerodactyl and a Rage Mode Lucario (its a Shadow Pokemon game). Lorenzo is kind of selfish, self-preserving type so he releases his Ditto, has it Transform into Raikou and book it (20 Overland is juicy). The party says, in effect, "Jerk" and decide to stay and watch whats going to happen. Me, not wanting a near TPK, turn my Ditto-Raikou back around and run at the evil dude. Having the copy roar (not Roar), to get the guys attention. The dude doesn't fall for it, seeing through the disguise (Empath I assume). This distracting was enough for Raikou to fire for a Weather Ball (turned Water due to the Rain) at the Rhy, Break Through! Thunder at the Evil Dude and some kind of tackle-like move at the Lucario. He promptly told all of us to run (the rest of the party hopping on his back and me running behind him). With a parting Thunder to the Aerodactyl (which didn't KO unfortunately). Raikou thanked me personally and offer to challenge him when we were (much) stronger. Got a sweet Trainer Level out of it.

Same game as Irn with the rebellion. I'm the GM, so I play both games. On the League side, some of the players went to Erika's gym to train. She greets them personally (since she was told about them from her colleagues). She invites one of them (Francis, played by CosmicOccurence) to train with him personally. Francis wanted some non-lethal training for his Abra, because its an Abra. So Erika takes him to a storage shed (gym being a greenhouse of course), with a large number of pots. She picks one pot up and chucks it at the Abra. I told Cosmic to roll d20+Abra's Int. Natural 20 (24 after bonus). So the Abra catches the pot Telekinetically, and flings it back at Erika, pissed that she attacked her. Erika failed her Dex roll to dodge it and hit her square in the face, causing her to start bleeding. Erika is a bit peeved at this point and decides to up the ante. She releases her Ace, a Venasaur. This thing is so high above my PCs I didn't even bother statting it. Proceed with Venasuar grabbing a bunch of pots and chucking them at the Abra all at once. Several very successful rolls later, the Abra catches and throws back all the pots (which the Venasuar blocks/destroys before they hit Erika). Impressed by the Abra's telekinetic dexterity, she switches her approach. She orders the Venasaur to fire off a Solarbeam. She stares at Francis, winning smirk on her face. Francis and Cosmic freak out (and probably started hating me) trying to figure a way out of the mess. He didn't want to gamble Teleport not activating, Francis throws himself in front of the Abra. I let him take the full attack (dropping him to -10). He wakes up in a hospital bed with Erika treating his wounds. The Abra is fine, and the Venasuar gives him a bouquet of flowers and her child as an apology. Moral of the story, recklessly throw yourself in front of attacks, you'll get an awesome Bulbasaur.

I GM for a single-PC game...and right after the player got his starter (an Eevee), he found a Geodude while in search for his pokedex. It ended up defeating his Eevee...but since it was a wild pokemon, it attacked him next.

We then proceeded to do what was essentially a fist-fight against a newbie trainer and a Geodude.

And he lost.

And I lost my serious attitude for the rest of the night.
