So this just came to me one day while riding the bus. I was thinking that held items seem to be more of a late game type of thing. Quite hard to get something unless you have the money to buy them or happen to luckily find one. So I was thinking, what if gym badges could be held items for pokemon. Some examples I guess could be Reduce incoming (type) damage by 5 before applying weaknesses and resistances. This pokemon gains stabbed for (type) attack. Grants pokemon with such and such capability. Increase moves with durations by 1 turn. That's it for now. But I just like the idea of instead of actively searching for items, you could get them by completing gym battles. |

The video games already have that feature to an extent. When you earn a badge, the badge grants a static boost to your Pokemon's stats. For example, Jasmine's Mineral Badge boosts your Pokemon's Defense. You could do the same, but make them equip items. But a lot of people tend to make up their own gyms, so you'll have the freedom of choosing what those boosts are. But I love the idea

Well, the badges used to add a stage to your combat stats - they stopped doing that after a few generations. But it's still a neat idea! I'd recommend using them as Held items that are Static and grant a +1 to their chosen combat stage. You can also mirror the games' badge requirements for the travel-aiding moves (Surf, Fly, etc.). A held Badge might grant an extra STAB in damage to such a move, or provide a boost to a capability associated with it (Surface and Sky, etc.) if that Pokemon has the move in question. You could also have a Held Badge provide something like Intimidate against other Trainers and their Pokemon - providing a Daily -1 combat stage to the badge's associated stat. Alternatively, a held Badge could also confer a +1 Loyalty while held, since the Pokemon is showing off what they're capable of and how proud their Trainer is of them. ...In the end, though, it definitely depends on the campaign's Gyms and their Badges. Whatever a Held Badge does, it has to match with the story behind the badge in question. |

About Held Items in general: There are now a lot of very affordable held items in the Players Handbook. In this game I joined recently, I had 5k to start out with and I spared 1k of it to give my Turtwig starter a Big Root. It has paid for itself. |

If you want held items from badges you could just have a held item be among the rewards for beating the gym, in the game I'm currently running the traditional typed gyms give their Elemental Booster, so Blaine gives you Charcoal and Misty gives you Mystic Water. |

I'm all for this idea. It gives the badges more interest and value. You could also have them used an a component to give a boost to fashion designer or artificer items for pokemon. |

I would love to see this done with some creative side effects. -Receiving This badge grants your Reflect/Light Screen barriers +1 turns. -This badge grants immunity from ACC loss for one turn. Or even crazier -Grant Pokemon +1 Int and simple speech. -1 Random Type shift for X turns for battles. -Gift Levitate to Digletts. |

I don't want a hover-lett for the overpoweredness. I want it because it will force my enemies to roll SAN checks.
