I actually haven't read the manga. I'm working straight from Bulbapedia's entry on Bursts. As far as the Bulbapedia entry regarding Burst cost goes, it seems to only hurt the user of the Burst, not the Pokemon. Also, I would hate to try to fuse with my level 5 Bulbasaur to become BulbaMan! but in the process kill my Bulbasaur if I roll anything less than 11. I would like Pokemon to take damage in battle like the Trainer, but there's the huge difference in Trainer and Pokemon HP at low levels. Then there's the problem of healing Pokemon inside without breaking the crystal.
First of all, the Burst Heart does not necessarily have to contain such a low-level Pokemon. Yes, of course, it could, but if it would endanger the life of the Bulbasaur on a failure, then it just goes to show how strong both Pokemon and Warrior need to be in order to burst successfully, not to mention stresses the importance of taking the Burst Warrior class so you don't have to take that risk.

As for the Pokemon inside, why not give it an auto-regen while the Burst Heart is inactive? They regenerate over a period of time to make up for the fact that you cannot use items on them. The trainer can use multiple burst hearts, but since the damage from each bursted Pokemon stacks, it's dangerous to do so, to the point that a trainer could have to be stuck in Burst Mode to prevent himself from dying. This has the potential for some interesting plots with Burst Warriors walking around in Burst Mode, maybe even getting refused treatment from scared people. There's a lot of drama that could be brought from that.

Not to mention, if they are healed in Burst Mode, both Trainer and Pokemon would be healed since they are fused.

That being said, I prefer whichever option makes the class more balanced and more fun to play as. Let's hammer this thing out!

I wonder how you'd find a burst heart, maybe buy one?
The protagonist received his as a gift, and since most people haven't heard of them in the manga, I can't imagine they'd be easy to find. You'd probably have to seek them out yourself, or luck out and get one as a gift.

What happens when you fuse with shedninja...?
Clever.

Okay, serious answer, I'd presume your HP would be 1, since that's part of Shedinja's Capabilities, and therefore, one of its traits that would be carried over. The only thing that isn't carried over seems to be the quadrupedal status of some Pokemon like Ponyta and Growlithe.

Okay, didn't know that existed. I will, however, say that I kinda like this system better. You have some interesting features listed, but it doesn't really stay true to how bursting is originally performed.

I have to say that I didn't expect many replies at all. What I'm reading is pretty awesome, and you straw, are pretty flippin amazing. I agree with all the features you set up. For the campaign I'm running with my friends I thought it'd be cool to introduce a Burst Warrior class. Kinda kick up the Pokemon bonding experience. Though I see the benefit to limiting the amount of burst hearts you can have.

I wonder how you'd find a burst heart, maybe buy one?

I also didn't know anyone else read that manga.
Thanks :) I've had some free time today, and this looked like a fun project. Though I think it's funny only a couple of people are helping with this. Then again, not everyone knows what this is.

Availability of Burst Hearts would be up to the GM. I don't think they should be sold in shops because of their mystical nature, but that brings up a lot of questions. If they're found in the wild, how are they made? Do they automatically have Pokemon trapped inside of them? How do Pokemon get trapped in them? Would a shopkeeper know what it was if they found it? Is there any knowledge of Bursting in the world? Is it common? Rare? Myth? If they're even sold in shops, their cost would be based on the answer to these questions, which I can't find anywhere.

I changed the bonus Burst gives to stats because, well, boosting one stat like WIS to 22 (a +6 bonus) or to 30 (+10) would grant all of your Pokemon stats +6/+10, which would be ridiculous. Imagine fusing a Level 40 Venusaur and Trainer with a WIS mod of +10.
Atk: (8) 18
Def: (16) 26
SpAtk: (22) 32
SpDef: (22) 32
Spe: (8) 18

Compared to a Venusaur with it's normal stats, VenuMan would be ridiculous in battle. I mean, it would require major stat-dumping, but it could break a character if the player metagamed.

@Arcran: EDIT: Looking at it, Tsumeken had some good ideas. I'll try to keep this Burst Warrior's mechanics different to avoid stepping on any toes.

Soulless
Shedinja is a unique pokemon. Its default Ability will always be Wonder Guard and Shedinja’s Max HP is always 1. You may not add to a Shedinja’s HP stat, and Shedinja may not have temporary HP. However, Shedinja never need to make a Death Saving’s Throw. Shedinja may not ever also have the Ability Solid Rock. Shedinja may not be targeted by Press On!

Because the Trainer takes on Shedinja's Soulless Capability, the Trainer would always have a Max HP of 1, cannot have its HP increased by any means, cannot have temporary HP, cannot die, cannot have the ability Solid Rock, or be targeted by Press On! As soon as the Trainer's HP reaches below 0, Burst would end, and all it would take is one successful hit. The Trainer would be at -1 HP (where Shedinja would normally have died), most likely unconscious unless it's classed in Enduring Soul. The Trainer's Max HP would then return to normal after Burst ends, but current HP would still be at -1.

@Black Glove: Auto-Regen HP seems like a good idea. As for Damaging the Pokemon, I guess that's a good point. Let's have some more discussion on it before I change it.

Interesting how a shedninja would be put into a burst heart because it's supposedly a soulless pokemon, therefor it has no soul to store.

The idea of slowly figuring this out is awesome. I'd love to be able to incorporate burst warriors into a campaign. Be it through NPC's or PC's. So would be be boosting the trainers stats or the pokemons?

I was thinking that too! This is getting weird.

So would what be boosting the Trainer's stats or the Pokemon's?

Considering a Burst Heart essentially looks like a big gemstone, I'd say a shopkeeper would sell them for a very high price, even if he didn't know what they were. As for how a Pokemon gets inside... I can't find any data on the subject. I suppose it could work sort of like a Poke Ball, where you can trap a Pokemon inside, but I don't have anything solid. Sorry.

Actually, the manga itself is pretty shaky on that. In the early chapters, Ryouga seems to be trying to keep it a secret, but later on, there's a friggin' tournament with a huge prize and everything. Personally, I like to think of it as being fairly unknown, as Burst Hearts are harder to use and are rarer than Poke Balls due to the training Bursting requires to perform. If it helps, the Burst Heart was a 2nd Place prize to a first prize of one billion currency (according to Wikipedia), which means they are seemingly rare and valuable.

Holy cow! The STAB bonus is a much better choice.

Alright. What about it do you want to discuss? Let's have some debate going!
