I'm going to be running a text based campaign (text based meaning no actual map, play by post) since I am utterly fail at maptools and the like. The map is merely up to you to visualize, and i will describe it and probably supply a picture. Commonly, roleplay is a general paragraph or so per post, unless in battle. If you don't like, eh, I understand. If you are interested...
Introduction
Spoiler: click to toggle The Pokemon League has extended its welcome for all challengers from the regions across the globe. The leagues of each nation have prepared, and the gyms and or polishing their badges in anticipation for trainers to come and do their best to win. Also, along side the leagues, the Grand Festival Tour has begun, and the coordinators are brushing and training in order to look good for the judges on the day of celebration after the final round of the leagues. In Kanto, new trainers hoping to try their luck against the regions best are flocking to Pallet Town, where Professor Oak, his grandson and assistant Green, and the esteemed creator of the storage system Bill will be monitoring the handout to a select few trainers.
Unfortunately, amidst this entire ruckus in anticipation for the next big thing, reports of unnatural phenomena around the world are stirring restlessness in others. Mountains have recently been erupting spontaneously, large thunderstorms are sweeping the regions, and certain ecosystems are changing or even falling apart. Sacred sites such as the tower sites of Ecruteak, Spear Pillar in Sinnoh, and Mt. Pyre have all been the buzz of explorers wanting witness some intense paranormal activity. Reports of violent pokemon have been emerging, certain reports of terrorism and breaches of national intelligence. Also, crime levels have reached an unusual high in metropolitan cities such as Saffron, Castelia, and the like. Nevertheless, the festivities continue as the oddities fall on the unattentive. But beneath the buzz of happiness, it seems like certain parts of the world were merely beginning to crumble. Something big was on the horizon, and it seemed like either nobody noticed it...or nobody wanted to notice it.
Recently, you put in your application for a starter pokemon eager to begin a journey of your own. Where it will take you, you don’t know yourself. But today you will learn where it starts. You start your day by collecting your mail. You have a letter, from the esteemed Professor Oak himself, no less! You open the envelope hastily…
“Dear aspiring Pokemon trainer, Congratulations, your application has been accepted! In a short time, you will be receiving your very own pokemon and starting out on your journey. Now, I’m sure you are rather surprised nonetheless by the sender of this letter. Consider this a…special invitation of sorts. Nothing serious, mind you, but I was hoping that you would receive it and aid me in a project of mine beyond the age old pokemon research encyclopedia. If you would, could you please arrive in my laboratory in Pallet Town in Kanto no more than one week from now. You will find that the necessary means of travel, no matter your residence, is contained in this envelope along with this letter. Upon your arrival, I will give you your starter pokemon, and will inform you of what’s to come! Good luck!"
Prof. Oak You are confused as to the meaning of the letter, but as it says, inside you find the materials needed to make it to Pallet Town. Eager to begin, you prepare yourself for departure.
Characters guidelines
Spoiler: click to toggle Starting Guidelines: Class and Level: All base classes will be allowed, homebrew on GM approval. No advanced classes yet. Also, Mystic and Psychic will take heavy persuading. If you want to be ranger, consult with me before hand about your designated "mission". We will start at Trainer Lv. 3 Starting Equipment:-2 potions -5Pokeballs -2 Status Heals of your choice -And of course a nice little bag to put it all in Special Note: If you are a martial artist and wish to carry a weapon, you may request one. I have to ok it first (quarter staff is sweet, bow and arrow I guess, no Buster Blades and the like...). No one except martial artists may start with a weapon, and unless included in your back-story I will assume your character has absolutely no martial knowledge and relies upon Pokemon to fight. Pokemon: (Though you will not start the game with a pokemon, you may write up stats for your starter of choice from the 15 starters, Pikachu, and Eevee starting at LV. 5. If you would like something different, then just PM me with a request beforehand. Don’t even bother asking for pseudo-legends unless you want a Magikarp. You may choose their nature, and you will receive it as requested. Biography: [And of course a back-story and an excerpt about yourself. If you wish, you can also include a picture for your character or just supply a description (height, weight, hair and eye color, disposition, clothes, sex, yada yada). Character age ranges from 13 to 18. You should also mention what region you come from if not from Kanto. The regions are... ehem, Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, the Orange Archipelago, the Sevii Islands, Orre (from Colosseum and XD), Fiore, Almia and Oblivia (from Pokemon Ranger).] Also, if you would like, write up a wish list of 10 pokemon you wish to encounter ranging from 10 (hey, look that's cool...) to 1 (LOOK, THERE IT IS OVER THE CLIFF FACE! HANG ON GUYS I'LL BE RIGHT BACK! *dives off mountain, forgetting that you can't fly*). I won't guarantee we'll run into the pokemon, or even that you will get them if we do. However, I'm a merciful GM contrary to the norm, so you never know. I would suggest keeping a character sheet that you can access easily as we progress. I will be keeping track of them all my own way, but its important for you as well.As you're making this, keep in mind that there will be a league, contests and musicals, and the setting will begin in Kanto (so unoriginal. noobish me...), but the adventure will include side-quests.
Characters Accepted: 6/6 (Done!)
Genya's Character:
Spoiler: click to toggle Mara Kazac- Level 3 (Mystic) Male, 18 yrs. 6'4" 180lbs Grey eyes, Black hair Str14 Dex10 Con11 Int10 Wis14 Cha7 (hurrr) Features: Hey Guys, Watch This! (no points banked), Channel, Borrow, Remedial First-Aid Inventory: Pokeball x5, Potion x2, Antidote x1, Awakening x1, Backpack
Pokemon: Torchic- Level 5 (will be nicknamed in game) Male Fire type, Blaze ability Adamant nature, Likes Spicy, Dislikes dry HP 5, Atk 10, Def 4, SpAtk 5, SpDef 5, Spd 7 Moves: Scratch, Growl
Mara had started off fairly average, though he managed to get on the tall side as he got older. While he isn't exactly unattractive, there is speculation that Mara would be much more appealing (visually and otherwise) if he wasn't so... creepy. He doesn't move like people ought to move, moving on all-fours or deeply crouched more often than he walks upright. Mara has a very distinct problem of staring at or fixating on something that interests him, and he doesn't seem to understand that such scrutiny is often socially inappropriate (or, perhaps more accurately, he doesn't care). When Mara interacts with things, it's almost like watching a cat investigate a new object. He'll touch, sniff, sometimes even lick or lightly gnaw on things just to experience every facet of it.
Physically, Mara could be rather imposing (if he cared to be). He spends most of his time crouched or hunched over instead of standing upright, and even when he does there's not much time to register hist 6'4” frame before he's back to moving like an animal again. While he's fairly well fleshed-out, it looks like Mara is still a touch on the thin and lanky side for his bone structure. His shoulder-length black hair is swept-back and held by a headband most of the time, leaving his grey eyes completely unobstructed. Mara's skin is possessed of a modest outdoorsy-type tan, though he learned after a few burns to seek shade when the heat was on (and that you are not safe even on a cloudy day). He keeps his fingernails clipped and filed into short claws (best as he can with human nails, anyway), which is arguably where he pays most attention to personal grooming. Aside from his eyes (since grey isn't exactly a common color), Mara's most telling physical feature would be his incisors. They are as close to actual fangs as human teeth can get, and they're quite natural.
When it comes to clothing, Mara dresses in basic and sturdy clothing, usually in darker colors. He'll sacrifice personal color choices to dress for the local weather and overall climate, but he'll likely snort and huff for a bit. He is usually found in a pair of jeans, sturdy boots, t-shirt, a button-down shirt with long sleeves, and a good coat or jacket (depending on weather). Mara believes firmly in layering and does not like to tempt the winds by prancing out the door scantily-clad. Far as coloring goes, he leans toward black, purple, blue, brown, and green if possible. He does not always coordinate very well, but that doesn't matter.
Mr Competion's Character:
Spoiler: click to toggle Name: Victor Kluge (pronounced Cloog) 17 years, Male. 5'11", 176 lbs. STR 17 DEX 10 CON 16 INT 10 WIS 8 CHA 8 Features: Enhanced Training, Improved Attacks (+) , Brutal Workout Inventory: 2x Potion, 2x Burn Heal, 5x Poke Ball
Pokemon: Weedle - Lv. 5 (Sting) Male Bug/Poison Type - Shield Dust Ability Adamant Nature - Likes Spicy, Dislikes Dry HP 5, ATK 7, DEF 3, S.ATK 1, S.DEF 3, SPD 6 Moves: Poison Sting, String Shot
Bio: Victor Kluge was born and raised in Viridian City, just on the edge of the forest. His father, Richard, is a police officer for the local force. His mother, Cynthia, is a teacher at the school. Victor has an older sister named Susan, who left home a few years ago to be a pokemon trainer. She has been visiting the gyms and working as a gym trainer at whichever ones will take her. When she was last heard from, she was working in the Cerulean Gym.
While growing up, Victor wanted to be a pokemon trainer just like his older sister. While she would use any pokemon she could get her hands on, he found that he preferred to use bug pokemon (as they were the only ones he could catch on his own at a young age). He believed he was getting pretty good at training them too, and felt he was ready to leave home on his own journey a couple years ago. That is until he challenged someone who was gunning for the local gym. While Victor never got his opponents name, his opponent had a rather powerful Charizard that killed Victor's prized Beedrill in a single attack. Devastated, Victor released his remaining pokemon back into the wild and stashed what few training supplies he had and gave up on his dream.
That is, until recently when he heard about the new league challenge. The bitter sting of loss he had suffered was now dulled by time, Victor submitted his application on a whim, believing it would be turned down and his belief that he shouldn't be a trainer would be justified. But it was accepted, and whats more, Prof. Oak had replied. Maybe, just maybe he might be cut out for this after all.....

Bio: An Orange Archipalego native from birth, De'Angelo almost died in a storm that destroyed the boat he'd been sailing on with his parents very early in his life. His survival was due in large part to a pod of Lapras that he managed to cling to amidst the wreckage. While he wasn't raised by the water types, by any means, he learned much about survival from observing them and the numerous wild Pokemon on the smaller deserted islands throughout the archipalego. The Lapras in turn tolerated him, especially when he helped with things like berries in high trees or other such luxuries they were unable to obtain themselves.
A few years of traveling with the Lapras pod eventually led De'Angelo to civilization again, where he would remain, and, enamored as he was with Pokemon, he couldn't imagine capturing one in a Pokeball to selfishly take on a journey with him. He spent most of his young life just off a secluded beach, surfing every day and entering (and acing) surf competitions for what very little money he needed, until not long after his eighteenth birthday. On one fateful evening, he spotted a little green lizard nearly drowned out on the waves. Upon reviving and nursing it back to health, De'Angelo was unable to get the Treecko - as that particular species of Pokemon was called - to return to wherever it had come from. It stayed by his side so adamantly that he came to enjoy its company immensely, and as he was beginning to teach the grass type to surf, it occurred to the young man that perhaps its arrival in his life was a sign, especially with word of an invitation to the world famous Professor Oak's hometown....
Reluctantly dropping off the Treecko at a friend's place, with the promise that he'd pick it up just as soon as he got a chance to come back to the islands, De'Angelo took off for Pallet Town as soon as his approval letter arrived in the mail.
Description: De'angelo is a dark skinned young man standing at 5'6. He likes to call himself stocky, but pudgy wouldn't be inaccurate, either. His black hair is braided into cornrows, and, except in cold weather, he is always dressed very lightly. When the temperature drops below 40 degrees, he overcompensates and dresses Very warmly.

Biography: Tristan Chaut was born into a family of martial artists. They study the art of Snorlax Fu, the belief that if your opponent cant hurt you then they cant beat you. So throughout his childhood he was thrashed repeatedly and made to get back up to take it again. Once he was able to stand on his feet after taking the hit was he able to start learning the martial arts. On his 8th birthday his family went on a vacation to Kanto where he got to see his first Official pokemon battle. Afterwards the trainers involved allowed a few of the children in the audience to come down to play with the pokemon. He was one of the few lucky selected and even got to have a battle with one of the other kids. He found that his training with his family had given him a slight insight into how the battles worked and he won his battle very easily. The trainer whose pokemon he was using was impressed gave him a few pointers on what to do to become a first class trainer. After the vacation his parents took him back to Mt Silver to resume his training. He never got to start his journey at age 10 because his father took ill and it was up to him to take care of his family. Shortly after his father passed away, his mother decided that they should move into town to make it easier on themselves. Years passed before Tristans mother made enough money that he didnt have to work to help support them. One day after his 14th birthday Tristan was contemplating going on his own, he wanted to make things easier for his mother and he still wanted to become a pokemon trainer. As luck would have it he got a letter that same day from Professor Oak and it changed his life.
