Background:
Spoiler: click to toggle Mizume's birth had been considered a blessing for her parents. They had tried numerous times before to have a child but all other attempts resulted in a stillborn child for unknown medical reasons. Because of the fact she lived among all the others, she was spoiled quite frequently. For the first several years of her life, they stayed where she'd been born, in Veilstone City before her father got a new job with the Underground in Eterna City.
Though it wasn't nearly as big as Veilstone City, Eterna seemed to have a better start for the small family. The only truly weird condition about her father working was he was required to keep all that happened while working in the Underground to himself. It didn't overly make sense to either Mizume or her mother though neither questioned it as the pay was obviously well enough. In fact, it'd been better than his last job.
Though it did bother the two women every now and again to not know what was going on, it got worst when he never came back. For a bit, his mom tried to assume he'd just been late. But a knock on the door and two co-workers from his work saying they couldn't find him confirmed he'd somehow disappeared. The now distraught 7 year old Mizume didn't want to believe what she'd just heard. No one could just up and vanish .... right? Not usually anyways.
It was easy for her to sneak out once her mom went to sleep that night and, for the first time ever, she went to the Underground herself. Of course, she'd brought a flashlight with her; she wasn't quite that naive. The further she walked and failed to see any hints of her father, the harder the reality of the situation was hitting her. Perhaps somehow he really had left. As she turned to left, she saw a strange, circular Pokemon (Unown).
It seemed to just stare at her for a bit before her head began to ache and spin. It started out as a small, annoying pain before it go so bad, she dropped the flashlight and grabbed her head with her hands. Her tear stricken face stared at it, as if to silently ask why it was doing this but she got no answer as she passed out.
The second she woke up on her bed, she could tell something was definitely different. Her sobbing mother had been waiting by her bedside and as she woke, she thought she'd heard her say, Idiot! Do you know what could have happened to you?! It was then, however, she noted her mom's lips hadn't moved. But if she hadn't spoken to her, how had she heard that?
The girl finally put two and two together and realized somehow, she'd been given special powers from whatever it was she'd seen. The words she'd heard were her mom's thoughts and, for some reason, she could now read them. Not sure on what to think, she just lied down the rest of the day, trying to decide what to do now. Her mom needed her, now more than ever, with her dad gone. That much was obvious. But it felt weird to remain when she'd probably freak her mother out even more the second she gave hints away of what had been "given" to her in the Underground.
After several weeks of contemplating, Mizume finally decided to leave, not wanting to cause more pain and confusion than her father's disappearance had probably already done. Taking what used to be her father's Pokegear, what she deemed enough food and rations, the pre-teen set out, trying to understand her newly-given talents of sorts and better understand them. Her calculations had been off a bit, unfortunately and by the fourth day, she'd ran out of food. To make matters worse, she had no idea where she was and hadn't been able to get the Pokegear working properly. As she passed out, Mizume feared she may never wake up and was almost ready to join her lost father in Death or wherever he'd gone to.
Fate seemed to have something else in store for her, however. As she woke she found she'd managed to walk far enough to a mansion and had been found by the maids working for the head of the House. He explained it'd been one of his Pokemon that'd smelled her in time. As she heard the term "Pokemon", it was then Mizume realized it was probably the same thing to what she'd found Underground. To extents, she learned she'd been right and wrong all the same. As the Head of the house realized just how naive the girl was with knowing of Pokemon, he decided to take her in as if she were a younger sister and teach her, also giving her free food and shelter.
The first several years were incredibly confusing for her. It was all so much to take in. But as years passed, Pokemon became slowly but steadily easier for her to comprehend. Not just what they were but why they existed, what their purposes were, etc. By the time she hit 16, her mentor of sorts deemed she had learned enough to head on her own if she wanted. All the time she'd been with her teacher, she'd never once revealed her powers out of fear of scaring him. So when he offered for her to go out successfully on her own, she eagerly agreed, now having 9 years of learning under her belt.
Within a few months, she encountered her first real Pokemon. Now that she knew all what to do, she had a better idea on how to face them, her encounter would go a lot smoother than it had years ago. But as she gazed down at the blue duck, she couldn't help but wonder if it was right to fight what seemed like a helpless duck. Rather than fight it, she managed to tame it enough for it to follow her willingly. Because of the close bond the two have had, her Ducklett is almost always out of it's Poke Ball unless it's resting.
Her next Pokemon, however, was one that wasn't nearly as nice as her first had been. It was an Onix and needless to say was annoyed when she'd accidentally woken it up by tripping over while she'd been exploring Mt. Coronet. Knowing there was no way for her to even begin to try to tame this one, she had no choice to fight it. Thankfully, her Ducklett had a major advantage against the huge rock snake-like Pokemon; it's type. One of them anyways but it was enough for her to win and acquire it.
Upon finding her way out of Mt. Coronet, she headed to Sandgem City, where she has been residing for the past two years training her Pokemon. All has been going well so far, up until weird auras and disturbances have been bothering her as of late. Feeling obliged to somehow help and simultaneously work on mastering and understanding her powers, she now seeks out answers. What's causing everything and why? Especially with Team Galatic being gone ... shouldn't everything be normal? Then again, she reminded herself, not everything is always as it seems.
