So, I've been wanting to play more of this game for a good while, but it seems to be pretty rare that a new game opens up on this board, so I've decided to see if anyone was interested in playing in a game I made. I'm not new to the whole GMing business, and I have a decent campaign laid out that I had started with my previous play group before it fell apart due to scheduling conflicts. In order to avoid this happening again, I think I'd like to do a pbp campaign instead of a maptool one.
So, if enough people are interested, I can open up a game on Mythweavers or Rpol (or somewhere else if there's a preference) and explain a bit more about the setting. For starters though, I will say that the campaign is set on an island, making the plot a lot more self contained, but aside from that the players are free to approach the situation in any way they please, and I like to try and keep railroading to a minimum.

I am interested, as my PbP games seem to have died. I personally have a preference for RPol, but would not object to using mythweavers.

I'm interested. Not familiar with Rpol or Mythweaver though, don't really have much of a preference for anything else either. Most of my rp has gone on between ezboards and invisionfree, and I wouldn't even necessarily suggest either of those.
Would we be starting character creation at level 0?

I find level 0/1 to be a rather boring to start at, considering how limited the classes are at such low levels. I would start the players at level 5 so you can at least pick a class or two, and it allows the characters to already be somewhat established as trainers at the start of the campaign.

So long as this it play-by-post, I'd be interested. (I'd though Mythweavers was just for sheets before!)

I'll join in. I also have a friend who is looking to join a game, so that's two more for you if you have enough room. We already have an account on Rpol but can set up an account wherever you decide to post the game.

Alright! 4-5 players is definitely good, and I've decided to start the game on Rpol since there are a few people with a preference and accounts there to begin with. Now, before you guys start creating your characters, here's the game intro for the setting:
Spoiler: click to toggle It's been advertised everywhere, on TV, the radio, and even the internet is buzzing with news about it: the first annual Eclipse League. Pokémon competitions were nothing new, you can hardly go a month nowadays without some tournament popping up somewhere for charity, fun, or even shady business, and that was in addition to the officially sanctioned gyms and tournaments. What set this competition apart was three things: The location, the sponsor, and the prize. The competition was set to take place on Eclipse Island, a remote chunk of land situated in the rather vast ocean between the Sinnoh and Unova regions. It was a place that almost every child learns about in school, because of it's unique history and political standing. (common knowledge history of Eclipse Island) Spoiler: click to toggle Several hundred years ago, sailors delivering agricultural goods to newly forming island colonies were blown extremely far off course by powerful storms only to find that they had run aground on an unknown island. They they named it Eclipse island because of how the setting sun was covered by the island's sole mountain. After using the stars to chart their position, and repairing the damages to their ship they attempted to set sail again, only to find that there were currents flowing around the island in a circular pattern that almost immediately ran the ship back to shore, though they were able to weigh anchor before damaging the ship again. Many days and many more escape attempts passed before the crew came to the conclusion that they were trapped there and went to work making a permanent settlement. The agricultural supplies proved useful in creating small farms to guarantee they there would be food in later months, and the captain of the ship proved to be an excellent leader for their new village. A year passed and there was unrest among the villagers about trying to leave the island again. Many wished to try and return to their families, while others had already started new families and believed it to be futile to try again. The captain, torn between his desire to stay o the island and the desire to allow his crew to find their families, hiked up the mountain to clear his head and get away from the incessant voices of his crew. Eventually reaching the top, he meditated on his troubles well into the night.
The legends state that he gained divine inspiration that night, but all that can be proven is that he returned from his trek with an idea as to the cause of the currents. He told his crew that during the coming week, the currents would cease, but near of the week they would resume. He turned out to be right, and those that wished to return to their original homes did so, bringing the location and information about the island to the rest of the world. The rest stayed behind and created the settlement that has lasted to this day.
Eventualy, scientists studying the currents discovered that they were essentially two powerful natural ocean currents that collided around the island, creating the circular current that prevented ships from leaving. During one small window of a couple of days each year though, the currents are at their weakest, allowing ships to leave safely.
Overtime more people came to the island, though it's unique situation prevented much modernization, especially since tourism was limited to the time when the currents were weak. Eclipse Island has remained largely isolationist and until the recent news, it was merely a historical relic, a spot on the globe. Transitions Inc., the corporation sponsoring the event, on the other hand, was something completely out of nowhere. The Unova based company had bought massive amounts of land on the island several years ago and kept the news from reaching the public. Considering how little news ever comes out of Eclipse Island in the first place, nobody noticed. Apparently they managed to halt the effects of the currents to allow ships to come and go freely. They accomplished this through the extreme measure of creating canals from one end of the island to the other, forming a cross and splitting the island into 4 distinct sections, joined only by bridges and the mountain in the center, which was tunneled through to make the canals. The canals allow the currents to flow through them without swirling around the island, completely removing the island's trap. The contest is being held in celebration of this feat. The internet is full of people trying to figure out where Transitions even came from in the first place. The fact that they have no previous business ventures meant that they had to be privately funded, but aside from that, nobody could find any information on the company. The topper to all of this strangeness is the prizes. The advertisement reads this in regards to prizes: " This year's winner shall receive a choice between a cash prize totaling $5,000,000 and another rare prize of equal value". Nobody has any idea what could possibly be worth five million dollars that this company could give away, but even five million dollars being up for grabs is enough reason for most trainers to enter the contest. Contestants were chose at random from entry form submissions. Only 500 were picked. There were boats available at each region's major ports to carry contestants to Eclipse Island, provided by Transitions Inc., of course. You were one of the few lucky enough to receive an invitation. Our story begins with you and the others on one of the boats as it nears Eclipse Island.
With that in mind, I would like to see at least preliminary character sheets here in this thread before we get into the game. Your characters will start at Trainer Level 5, with two pokemon at level 20. If you want to use any homebrewed classes, feel free, but please post the source material so I can check it over. I'm not placing any explicit restrictions on pokemon choice either, but please be reasonable. Keep in mind that if I feel that a homebrewed class or pokemon choice won't work out, you will have to choose something else. I am also open to any suggested changes to the current core books, as I know they aren't perfect, and I don't want to limit the players due to a few abilties not functioning properly or being incorrectly listed.

Backstory Mike was born in Johto, just a stone's throw away from the Kanto border. His parents owned and operated a small pokemart. As he grew up, Mike would often watch pokemon battles on tv as well as listen to the trainers who frequented the store talk about their battles and exploits. He became fascinated with pokemon battles and desired to take part in them himself, vowing to be the league champion some day. Deciding to be the best is all well and good, but it's hard getting there, especially when there's no-one around willing to just give you your first 'mon. Using his meager allowance, and some pleading, Mike was able to get his very first pokeball (something his mother was against him having). Using that, he captured a ratatta (after throwing many rocks at it, and some sandwich pieces). Using that rodent, he put his self-education to the test, eventually earning enough to travel a bit on his own.
During his travels, Mike met many trainers, most far more seasoned than himself. Eventually he came to the decision that a ratatta would not get him very far. Having encountered many steel and rock types, the young trainer decided that was what he needed, steel. Steel-types were so durable, and could pack a punch that few other types could without extensive training. But capturing one proved to be difficult, so he went another route. Mike traded Mr. Whiskers to some kid named Joey for a beldum (sucker!). From there, Mike's journey had more ups and downs (mostly downs) but he managed to acquire a Drilbur. After receiving word from his parents that the shop was not doing well and would have to close in the near future, seeing the flier for the tournament seemed to be a message from Arceus himself. Mike entered that lottery, won it, and is now on his way to achieve his dream of becoming a league champion, and to save his family's business in the process.
Couple of questions: What would starting equipment/cash be like? What sorts of rules does this league have for battles (doesn't need to be answered here)? What is the format for this league?

Hmmm... Forgot about starting equipment. I'd say starting with $5000, a pokedex, and a decent quality backpack. That $5000 can go toward whatever starting equipment you want (using handbook prices).
As far as rules and format goes, your characters don't even know yet. They'll get filled in near the beginning. I can promise you that it'll be unique though.
