Introduction In the land of Uros, a small, isolated continent which has escaped the attention of modern society, conflict has arisen. Darius, a high priest of this land, has laid claim that the Solemn Sages, the religious leaders from which he has defected, have lost their way. As such, claiming to have a mandate from the Goddess, he seeks to capture and sacrifice them to the Ancient Beast Omnus. In doing so, he hopes that it may cleanse the land of impurity so that the true followers of the Goddess may usher in a new era; one washed clean of the corruption and taint produced as a result of the other Sages’ wrongdoings. As Darius incites more of the people to rebellion, the Solemn Sages find that less and less of their able bodied people are willing to serve them; as such, their only hope rests in summoning you and several others from across the world to save their land from total annihilation at the hands of Midnus. Will you accept the call? Will you stand up against Darius? So, To What Specifications Should I Make My Character? Your character should fall under the following specifications: 1 – Be a human male and/OR female (Sorry to anyone who wanted to be oversized multi-tentacle monsters or something of the like. It just wouldn’t make sense to the campaign if you did that.) 2 – Be statted as a Level 2 Trainer, and have a list of their planned classes. I need the list of planned classes because some classes will have special features that are circumstantial of their situation <As money isn’t involved in this campaign whatsoever, this is an important thing to take note of. Any feature with a monetary pre-requisite or application cost will be changed to “In Town” for a pre-requisite or be changed to “Daily – While In Town” for its frequency (without cost attached) unless otherwise stated, but the feature “Hey Guys, Watch This!” cannot be used to hoard features which can only be taken in town. Your features will be marked as having been acquired in town or out of town. This will most likely be updated later to either be more specific or so as to remind me of any special agreements reached upon with a character for their classes.> 3. Come with a backstory or something that explains your character in terms of personality or the like. (I don't expect it to be some virtuoso masterpiece; just make sure it has any and all IMPORTANT details about the character and his/her backstory.) Inventory When filling in your inventory, the items you’ll get are as follows: 10 (Ten) Light Healing Energy; these items can be used like potions; When used on a conscious Pokemon, they’ll recover 2d10+10 HP. When used on a fainted Pokemon, they’ll regain d10+10 HP. (In other words, you get a greater benefit out of using it while the Pokemon is still conscious.) 3 (Three) Heavy Healing Energy; these items can be used like potions; When used on a conscious Pokemon, they’ll recover 2d20+20 HP. When used on a fainted Pokemon, they’ll regain d20+20 HP. 3 (Three) Pure Healing Energy; these items can be used like Lava Cookies; when used on a Trainer or conscious Pokemon, they’ll instantly be cleared of all traditional status ailments except Freeze and Sleep [Burn, Paralysis, Poison]. 5 (Five) Typeless Containment Crystals; these items will function like PokeBalls. There are special rules to their use, however, which will be explained later on in the “Mechanics” section. [I should really say three, since one of them’s going towards capturing your Starter and the other is going towards a second Pokemon which I'll pick out for you beforehand, but regardless…] 2 (Two) Containment Crystals of your choice of type; again, function like PokeBalls. Check “Mechanics” section for more details about type-related Capture Modifiers. When you list your character information, please specify which types you want in particular.] 15 (Fifteen) Energy Crystals; in this campaign, under normal circumstances you’re only allowed to attempt to capture one wild Pokemon per encounter; these items can be used when you fail a Capture Roll to allow you to continue your attempt to capture wild Pokemon on subsequent turns. [Optional] 1 (One) Weapon of Your Choice. It can be a sword, a crossbow, a jack-in-the-box that shoots out a fist when you crank it open… It can be as awesome, badass, or creative as you want. If you elect not to have a weapon, though, I’m sure that we can negotiate an alternative to a weapon. <Note that, as awesome as the weapon may be, it’s still subject to the normal rules of weaponry.> If you're going to choose a weapon, I would suggest to you to pick a type of weapon which your class receives as a gift and gets benefits from their modifiers. Like, I wouldn’t give a Psychic a Sword for his weapon, especially when he’ll most likely have a negative modifier added to her damage, resulting in the possibility of zero or even negative damage output. Likewise, a Martial Artist might not enjoy using a Polearm too much when, despite the damage bonus he’ll receive as a result of his Improved Combat feature, he’s most likely taking a huge hit to the INT warp core which may very well neutralize his Improved Combat bonus. [/quote][/spoiler] Your Starter Your starter Pokemon will be Level 15; you may choose its starting nature, gender, and ability as you see fit. Since your character won’t begin the campaign in Uros, you won’t have this Pokemon until you’re given it to you in the campaign. I’m providing a list of Pokemon that you might want to consider for your Starter. While this list isn’t absolute and restrictive [You can choose your own starter from outside of this list with my approval], I tried to pick a list of starters who have the following qualities: 1)Have the potential for evolution. 2)GENERALLY lack 4x weaknesses [For some of them, like the Dragon type, you don’t really get a large choice in the matter… So I did the best I could with them. If you want a Pokemon with a four times weakness, I’m not going to stop you from having it; just know that if a situation comes up where you leave it to be easily exploited late in the campaign, I may not hesitate to exploit it.] 3)Have a wide enough movepool in the early stages that you won’t just be like “Oh, fuck. I can’t hit ANYTHING in this area with them!” Most of these Pokemon, at Level 15 (or some level really close to it) have moves of at least three different attacking types. Anyways, the list of suggested starter choices is as follows. Pokemon who fall into two different types will be listed under BOTH types, and Pokemon who evolve into ones with multiple types will be listed under the types which their end form(s) will be (I might have forgotten to move some, though, so if you catch it let me know): Bug Type – Dwebble, Joltik, Larvesta, Venonat Dark Type – Carvanha, Deino, Houndour, Murkrow, Sandile, Scraggy, Skorupi Dragon Type – Axew, Bagon, Deino Electric Type - Blitzle, Chinchou, Elekid, Joltik, Shinx Fighting Type – Meditite, Timburr, Riolu, Scraggy Fire Type – Darumaka, Growlithe, Houndour, Larvesta, Litwick Flying Type – Archen, Bagon, Drifloon, Farfetch’d*, Murkrow, Woobat, Zubat Ghost Type – Drifloon, Frillish, Golett, Litwick, Snorunt Grass Type – Deerling, Foongus, Lileep, Lotad, Pansage Ground Type – Baltoy, Drilbur, Golett, Hippopotas, Nidoran (Male or Female), Sandile, Swinub Ice Type – Snorunt, Spheal, Swinub Normal Type – Deerling, Farfetch’d, Porygon Poison Type – Foongus, Nidoran (Male or Female), Skorupi, Tentacool, Venonat, Zubat Psychic Type – Baltoy, Bronzor, Elgyem, Meditite, Solosis, Woobat Rock Type – Archen, Bonsly, Dwebble, Lileep Steel Type – Bronzor, Piplup, Riolu Water Type – Buizel, Chinchou, Frillish, Lotad, Piplup, Remoraid, Spheal, Tentacool Special Mechanics In this new continent, PokeBalls don’t exist, and forging bonds with Wild Pokemon unaided will prove to be exceptionally difficult; to aid you in your quest, the Sages will provide you with a special Gauntlet which allows you to function as a normal Trainer would in your land. 1.Capturing Wild Pokemon – When you meet a Pokemon you wish to befriend, you may attempt capture by using an unarmed Melee attack on them (Basically, you’d grab onto them and hope they get sucked into your Containment Crystal). Using a device that looks like http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/2802/gauntlet.png (Yes, I realize this picture is terribad and I should feel bad for posting it, but it gets the point across), you can capture Pokemon and store them in special Containment Crystals 2. “Consuming” Wild Pokemon – The life energy of Pokemon is basically a form of currency in this world; the Sages and their apprentices (albeit less skillfully and efficiently than the Sages whom they serve) can convert this life energy into useful things, like knowledge to be bestowed upon your Pokemon. Containment Crystals, healing energy, or even endowments of strength (read as Stat Boosts; albeit to a limited extent). If you can extract the life energy of wild Pokemon for the Sages, they will make it worth your while. Extracting the energy of Wild Pokemon works much the same way as befriending them, except with two key differences; the first is that a wild Pokemon WILL be able to act while you’re trying to suck out its life force (I mean, do you expect it to just sit there and wait while you pry the life out of its body? Yeah, I didn’t think so, either), and there’s a good chance (read as “Unless something even bigger and more badass than you threatens to KILL it you should expect it to ram you in the gut instinctively” type of good chance) that, if you fail, it will try to attack you. The other is that there’s a restriction on how often you can perform this Feature; for most classes, it can only be used once per day, plus once more for every five Trainer Levels you possess. If your intended class choice has an alteration to this rule, you will be informed of this change once this feature is gifted unto the characters. 3.Evolving Your Pokemon – Under normal circumstances, most Pokemon on the continent lack the ability to evolve on their own accord. To this extent, you as a Trainer will be integral in helping the Pokemon realize their true potential. This will generally entail harvesting a certain amount and type of life energy; if you think about it, though, generally this won’t be a terribly difficult thing to do. [For example, if you wanted to evolve a Scyther into a Scizor, one of the components needed would be the life force of a Steel-type. An Eevee would need some of the life energy of the type you wish for it to evolve into.] Generally speaking, the further along in the evolution the Pokemon is, the more energy you’ll need as part of the evolution. [When this comes around, it will be explained in further detail] (This is not a base capability of Trainers; it will be explained when the Trainers unlock it.) 4.Relearning and Tutoring Moves – All sages possess a certain amount of knowledge; as such, they can bestow that knowledge upon your Pokemon. If you can harbor energy of the desired type, they can use it to bestow the knowledge of that latent ability within your Pokemon (Though, generally, this energy will be more thoroughly used to teach more powerful moves than moves that aren’t so much. It also would consume less energy to teach a Pokemon a skill of which it bears familiarity than one which is relatively vague. If you wanted to teach Charizard Air Slash, it wouldn’t consume as much of the soul as it would to have it relearn Dragon Claw.) This list will be further expanded upon if anything comes up. Special Feature of the Containment Crystals -Like Pokemon, Containment Crystals have types, as they are designed by extracting the life energy from Pokemon. If you use a Containment Crystal to befriend a Pokemon of either the same type as the Pokemon or one which the Pokemon’s attacking type is advantageous, you’ll receive a bonus to your capture modifier (-10 reduction to the roll if the same type, -5 for supereffective); however, likewise you’ll receive a penalty to your roll if you use a Containment Crystal to which the Pokemon’s type is weak against (+5 penalty). <Remember that you want the capture roll as low as possible; minus is good, plus is bad.> Example: If you try to catch a Charmander using a Fire Crystal, you’ll get a -10 point bonus to your Capture Mod; using a Grass Crystal would give you a -5 bonus; but a Water Soul would add a +5 penalty. Normal is, for all intensive purposes, a Typeless Crystal when used for capturing Pokemon, offering no bonuses or penalties under any condition, but takes up the Normal type for anything else. For Ghost and Dragon type Pokemon, the Crystal being of the Pokemon’s type takes precedence over being weak to the type; only the -10 bonus to the Capture Mod will be applied for these types. Being of the same type also takes precedence over the type being resisted, so Charmander and Bulbasaur would get -10 bonuses instead of +5 penalties for their elemental types. Just a warning: All of the things in this post (including maybe even the name) are tentative and subject to change. If any changes are made, I'll note when and where they are made. Any questions and stuff can be sent to my PM. I'm also on the /tg/ IRC chat if you need to contact me quickly. I almost always have it on; I'm just not always ON (Because I'm in college, LOLfourhoursofcommutingforthreehoursofcommunitycollege). At the moment, my current schedule definitively allows for me to GM on Saturdays and Wednesdays, pretty much at any time of the day [Within reason; I'd say that the range for each of them would be between noon and midnight EST]. If this changes or other times I can GM open up before we start, I'll inform you of it. Also, the name's subject to change, too. I just picked the first thing I could think of (The campaign's nowhere near as grimdarkdarkdark as the name would suggest. On the contrary, I would like to think that I'm quite entertaining, albeit sometimes immature, with my GMing style and narrative. Mildly trollish, but not to a fatal extent.) A Random Snippet Answers to Some Questions You Might Have

http://pastebin.com/6y4Rh4bR Starter weapon would be a short sword. She's still a MA/Weapon Master/Rider...potentially would like to give her something like type ace: flying, air adept or a ranger class as a 4th, wanted to keep up a Valkyrie theme but it'd need a little homeruling if she got that far to keep it up. Bio: Valdis is a product of heritage and tradition. She is a native of the country of Norsca, and comes from a long family line of generals. From early age she was drilled in martial combat, strategy and rigorous physical training. As a graduate from the country's military academy, she is currently a low ranking officer in Norsca's armed forces. Many would note, outside her appearance, her actions make her seem extremely masculine. Her speech, her body language, and her attitude, none of it is the least bit feminine. As a child from a family of soldiers, almost all of which were men, she was practically raised as a boy in a girl's body. Her personality can be quite troublesome; while her father and grandfather, and great grandfather (and so on) were all highly respected, charismatic leaders, she seems to...lack some of those finer qualities. Her speech can be crass, she's easily angered, and doesn't handle disputes between teammates well. Also, while she's quite quick witted and showed great problem solving skills, she wasn't the best student when it came down to memorizing factual information. Additionally, while she tries extremely hard to repress it, things she finds "cute" bring out an extremely feminine side to her. These issues make her worry about if she can live up to her family's high expectations for her. She was recently tasked with an assignment to travel to a foreign land in the east to retrieve an item of interest that was left at her country's embassy. All she knows is she is to travel to Saffron City, retrieve the object, and get it back home safely. her appearance is inspired by Agrias Oaks from FFT (http://i53.tinypic.com/2s6svf9.jpg) and Casca from Berserk (http://i.imgur.com/K1GaS.jpg). She's blond haired, blue eyed, wears a breatplate over her shirt with a pair of little shoulderpads. She's also wearing leather gloves, men's slacks, and leather boots. I get the feeling you've been playing some Shin Megami Tensai games. Awesome, I love dark and conflicting worlds where neither side is good. |

I'm intrigued. ^^ I still have to read everything but it sounds interesting. Also... What did you mean by shenanigans? If I may ask? Like how bad? ^^; Edit: (Sorry enter key broke...) I read more of what you put up. I would be interested in hearing more and joining if times work out and if you'll allow. Let me know what you have planned. I have an idea already for a trainer, if I could start with Riolu that'd be great and my starting plans would probably work out. ^^; Anyway. Let me know and take care.

Frankly, I haven't played SMT enough to know if I should take that as a compliment or not (I started Strange Journey, and got through the first world thingy and haven't touched it since). But yeah, I definitely ain't throwing you guys through a happy-go-lucky rainbows-and-butterflies kind of universe.
By shenanigans, I generally mean ridiculous and silly things happen (which may or may not afflict mild amounts of damage to your character; depends on the situation) happen quite frequently. Go back up to the snippet from before. This happened shortly after. You may also get random doses of nonsensical whimsy such as this. So yeah, you'll never know if shenanigans are good or bad, just that they're going to happen.EDIT (to below post): Yeah, Riolu's perfectly fine. Hell, it's even in the list of suggested Starters, so I got no problems whatsoever with it. And like I said before, the times which, at the moment, work best for me are Wednesday and Saturday at any time whatsoever those days (within reason). Edited by Botherer, Apr 13 2011, 10:25 AM.

You mean that Ursaring detective? Given that in the other campaign I'm running I already have a person playing as a Piplup, I would be in no position to object even if I wanted to (And with my affinity towards Teddiursa... Yeah, I don't see myself objecting to the idea any time soon); the only thing is that we'd have to work out how your character would work mechanically. Like, would you be a Trainer as well as a Pokemon, or a single Pokemon with heightened intellect to the point where you become human in intelligence, or whatever it is you plan to do. That'd be the first step. [TL;DR - If you wanna change your character to the Teddiursa, I'm okay with that. We just gotta negotiate it first. You're no less priveliged to engaging in shenanigans than I am.] |

Well I can't say for sure what all my Saturdays will be like. I'm usually on 9pm-4am est for another RP on Saturday. I work 6am-5pm est during the week so would I be too much of a bother to deal with? You said you could go till midnight, I'm not sure I should go that long during the week but one night a week I could probably swing the lack of sleep if need be. ^^; I'll still start thinking of a background for my character though if only to amuse myself. : ) If I may ask this too though. Will we have one of our starters before this thing gets off? Like... could I include my Riolu in more or less the entirety of my back story or no? |

Well, noon to midnight is just the maximum time window I'm open and should be expected to function like a normal human being. Doesn't necessarily mean I'll go from noon to midnight. Depends on what the people who apply are willing and capable of doing. Also, for the backstory... You can have involvement with Pokemon in it. But the Pokemon you choose for your Starter will be gifted to you in the new continent. You won't start with them. |
