Good evening, (NAME) We hope you weren't too deep in sleep. Please make your way to the local Pokemon Center within the next hour and introduce yourself to your comrades. There will be three of you tonight. We suggest you bare at least two of your Pokemon with you, as well as the Repel you were saving. Also take a towel from the hotel bathroom. You will need it. A gentle wind be at your back, Wanderer -------------------------------------------------------------- So I've been pondering for a while, running a "pick up and play" region for P:TA games. The premise is simple: Everything occurs in the Altho region. Players create trainers who, for one reason or another, are all part of an 'odd jobs' guild. When sessions are run, they are small events in a random location in the Altho region, and trainers who might otherwise might never know each other are called together on their Dex by the guild to pitch in and help out with whatever event it is. What this means is that the sessions are spontaneous, generally pretty short, and don't require much work; but characters can be passed along between events. So how the heck do you plan for spontaneous sessions? I will be using #AlthoRegion on the suptg IRC ( irc.thisisnotatrueending.com ). When I decide to run a game, I'll throw up a message there; probably in the standard Pokeymans channel and possibly here too. I obviously cannot catch everyone nor can I handle having everyone at once. This means there'll probably be some first-come-first-serve going on. Don't expect most sessions to accept more than 2-3 players at a time but this might change if I do a bigger adventure or event. If other people are interested in hosting their own little events in Altho as a GM I am willing to allow it too (Although I'd prefer to look over things quickly). What do I need to know about the Altho Region? Altho is located north of Johto/Sinnoh along the eastern coast, but south of the Sinnoh region. A generally mountainous region, several pockets of different landscapes exist in gaps between the mountains, leading to a region that is ecologically diverse but bares concentrated and distinct biospheres. Since the mountains are generally steep and trecherous, travel is generally achieved by train lines running between the major cities; although to get to any of the smaller towns you might have to go trekking on foot. ![]() The capital and star city of the Altho region is Ivoryscape City; jutting from the north-eastern peninsula, this massive port city has functioned as the center of Altho trade and commerce for years. It is large enough that the ports have been placed on the islands surrounding it, and large bridges stretch back to the mainland. It is a main stopping destination for individuals travelling between Sinnoh and Kanto, being precisely halfway between the two regions, and many companies and organizations have holds - or even headquarters - in this city, from which they manage operations in both cities. Altho does have its own league. Unlike many other regions, even many small outposts in Altho allow competitors to face a gym challenge. As a result, only the league's largest gyms actually hand out solid badges - almost every other location uses a digital variant that resets yearly, forcing competitors to prove themselves each year in time for the league competitions at the end. The setting of the game is a modern timeline. It will be set eight years following the events of Generation 2/4 (so 8 years since 1/3; and two years prior to the events of Isshu/Unova). I should not have any problems with characters originating from other regions, however - possibly even regions that have been used in other games, with some discussion. Technologically, Altho shares much of the same unusual technology level of the rest of the Japan-located regions. Altho does, however, make use of electronic trainer IDs that function alternatingly as credit cards and personal records. Since they're required to board the trains, very few individuals - trainers or not - do not carry one. Other features of the region, for the time being, can be decided by players applying - if you can think of a snowy city or some strange tradition your trainer was a follower of or something, throw it at me. Questions are encouraged; as they come up, I'll throw them here or something. So, the Wanderers... Started in Altho ages ago, Wanderers was once a semi-secret organization of rangers who worked to keep the peace of the newly settled region and explore its frontiers. However, as the region became settled, those purposes became less important. About fourty years ago, the Wanderers finally made their existance public when they opened their doors in Ivoryscape City and began allowing applicants. Now, Wanderers are individuals who are something like 'sponsored travellers'. The Wanderers guild handles reservations, ensures free care at Pokemon Centers for the trainers and their pokemon alike, and unlimited access to the train network. They are a diverse group, their members being of all ages, backgrounds, nationalities, genders, interests, skill sets, levels, and goals - all that matters to the Wanderers is that you follow their one rule: "I hereby pledge to listen for the call for the Wanderers, and answer it to the best of my ability." 'The Call' is just that - a call sent out that reaches members of the Wanderers via their special-issue Pokedexes that each carries. It's a distinctive ring. When it's recieved, instructions appear on the Pokedex of those who are called. Members are expected to follow those instructions to the best of their ability. Nobody knows who exactly determines who gets these calls or when - sometimes two Wanderers will be travelling together and only one will get it; sometimes Wanderers in several different parts of the region will be called. All that is known is that "the call is not beyond the abilities of those who recieve it" and that "if you don't accept it, the Wanderers cut off your benefits until you accept one." The reason for entering the Wanderers is up to you; although it is not an elite organization by any means, it's numbers are small, but their rhyme or reason for accepting people seems to be random chance. Some enter the Wanderers practically as a career - it pays well and takes care of them, and in return allows them to live whatever life they want in the meantime. Some are people who have already fulfilling careers, or great fame and fortune, seeking some excitement or wanting to offer their services for society. Some are less fortunate - down on their luck, they joined the Wanderers to get back on their feet. And stranger still are stories of individuals who joined the Wanderers by more unusual means than ever. So what's the crunch? For initial character sheets, please get into contact with me! You will be starting with characters at level 8. These characters can be of any class setup you want - for the most part I'm willing to allow any criteria if you can justify it in the character background. Remember however, that later criteria will have to be met during gameplay, most likely, to be met. I am allowing the Wild Child class, and possibly other homebrew classes, just be sure to talk to me if you want anything unusual. You will begin with three Pokemon at most. One will be level 20 and have a single Egg or TM move of your choice and a hold item; one will be level 16 with an Egg move OR a hold item; and one will be level 12 with no special moves or held item. You have 10,000P to spend on initial supplies. Use the price standards according to Bulbapedia or Serebii or somewhere. The game will not use typical levelling methods for trainers. After every probably 3-4 sessions, a set of global rewards will be handed out - every player will gain a trainer level as well as a pool of 'bonuses' to pick up - free new Pokemon, etc. , that represent the individual's experiences simply as time passes. And please do give some thought to your character's background; even if it means making shit up about the region, I am completely okay with that - it's also why I ask that you PM me your character sheets! Later on, everything will likely be hosted together in one location. If you have questions, or just want to confirm that you're interested, or whatever, go ahead! While I'm not gonna limit participants, please don't apply if you don't intend on actually playing or being around to play, and I will kick your ass if you start whining about not being around. --------------------- RELEVANT RULINGS FOR CHARACTER CREATION (More will appear here as time goes on!) *Please supply me with your level-by-level progression and starting stats for trainers! *If you want a single-stage Pokemon it must be your level 12 Pokemon. All other Pokemon must be able to evolve at least once (Depending on mon they might have already evolved of course) *Allowed homebrew: Wild Child (all), Mystic Rewrite (base class, possibly more, just ask) *Please please please submit your sheets as plain text. Don't make me download files, don't use excel sheets, etc. - it is honestly far easier for me if I don't have to open extraneous programs! *Elemental Arms features are not going to be used. *Classes needing to spend money for features can get them for free during character creation. *You have a total of 9 'points' worth of Loyalty between your starting Pokemon. Class-specific *Ace Trainers: Added experience grants you +1 level to each starting Pokemon. *Breeders: Natural Edge can be applied once at character creation, to one of your Pokemon at your choice - they will be applied using your current stats. If you share backgrounds with another character and it would be reasonable, they can also benefit from this (It's still only one mon each) *Pushers: TM Pusher and Tutor Pusher can each be applied successfully once at character creation. Purchase Prices *Weapons: You do not need to pay for a normal weapon. You can, however, begin with Hunter Weapons (see the Wild Child advanced class). ***Level 1 (+1d4 damage), no element: 1000P ***Level 1 (+1d4 damage), elemental: 3000P ***Level 11 (+1d6 damage), no element: 2000P ***Level 11 (+1d6 damage), elemental: 4000P ***Level 21 (+1d8 damaeg), no element: 3000P ***Level 21 (+1d8 damage), elemental: 5000P *Apricorn Smith-made balls can be bought at the start for 1000P each. --------------------- CURRENT PLAYERS LIST WITH SUBMITTED SHEETS: Anise, Botherer, CecilHoshino, Gents, GunslingerPanda, KujiUn, Paradox, YellowYoshi LIST OF CURRENTLY CONFIRMED CLASSES: Base Classes: Ace Trainer (2), Breeder (2), Capture Specialist (2), Martial Artist (2), Psychic (1), Ranger (1), Researcher (1) Advanced Classes: Clairsentient (2), Detective (1), Hatcher (1), Evolver (1), Medic (1), Ninja (1), Pusher (1), Stat Ace [Attack] (1), Type Ace [Dragon] (1), Underdog (1), Weapons Master (1) LIST OF CURRENTLY CONFIRMED MONS: Accelgor (1), Aron (1), Axew (1), Bagon (1), Croagunk (1), Deino (1), Horsea (1), Kecleon (1), Larvitar (2), Mawile (1), Metang (1), Pachirisu (1), Phanpy (1), Rufflet (1), Scraggy (1), Shuckle (1), Spheal (1), Teddiursa (1), Turtwig (1), Tyrogue (1) Edited by Garlyle, Apr 11 2011, 05:20 PM.

Aw yeah this be pretty sweet.. I usually have trouble with IRC games, being in GMT+3 time at the moment, but I'll apply regardless. I want to be a Ace Trainer/Flying Ace maybe pick up Air Adept later methinks. A level 20 Gyarados, a level 16 Staravia (evolved from Starly for data), and a level 10 Drifloon. I can decide items/TM's later. |

Sounds awesome. But the IRC you linked to doesn't seem to work for me. Could be the site's app rather than the server though, iunno. Also where is this Pokeymans IRC? |
