See thats the thing. The Snagger only works if others take Grunt to distract the enemy. You should never force someone to take a feat, much less a class, just for a single build to work.

Here is what I have from when I was doing this a few month's back.

Snagger

Also another note, You also shouldn't force someone to be a part of the criminal organization to take it. Maybe the character is just someone who resorts to tricks in order to win? Or maybe they are just one of the generic Burglars that you find in some areas of the games.

Hell maybe they are like Wes from Colosseum, doing whatever it takes to make the world a better place, even if it comes down to stealing.

Anytime you force someone to RP in a certain way, especially in a way that specific, it doesn't end well.

Sure, they MAY be one of the Generic Grunts you see running around. Hell, I would LOVE to play a campaign where every person has to take the Grunt class at first level, but other classes are allowed after that, and are all members of the TEAM sent to go on missions to further their goals. It sounds fun. But it shouldn't be the ONLY kind of campaign the class can be used in.

I'm really really liking how simple that Snaggem feature is, while still being a bit difficult to successfully snag the Pokemon.

Right. I'm trying to make it so that it's not too populated with features that require being part of the criminal organization, and then when a feature does require that, it's something that fits into needing that kind of background.

I'd be very tempted to host a game like that in the future. It would be some good playtesting, too.

Updated the first post with the Lasher advanced class. It was easier than the Criminal one, mostly due to the absence of troublesome Pokemon stealing.

Might as well post my version of the grunt class.

Also, Styx, do you want to hop on MSN or something and disscuss the class?

We both seem to be working on it, and having two viewpoints on it would probably help it a lot.

Spoiler: click to toggle

Also a quick note, your idea for Con Artist is already included in the Trader advanced class as a feat.

I like this idea, and most everything seems pretty solid. I'd love to see more out of the advanced classes (especially Mad Scientist).

My players wouldn't go for being a criminal (they're a bunch of monster-loving hippies), but I know plenty of players out there would. Not to mention a campaign revolving around a platoon of evil gang members would be all kinds of fun.

Thanks. And yeah, I think it would be fun to go around under a group like Team Rocket or even just as runaway criminals, either messing around or following some criminal-based plot.

And in any case, I updated the first post with the Con Artist class. Also updated were two things that Halfwing and I talked about:

First, the Criminal/Grunt base class has been changed to less specific. Prerequisites were changed, and it no longer provides a stat bonus or penalty.
Second, the Advanced Classes will now be tied to certain Stats (except Executive and Boss), and for every base class that uses those stats, the Criminal advanced class will have a feature for them. So take the Lasher class, for instance. Its ability is Str, so it has two additional feats: one for Ace Trainers and one for Martial Artists. This way, if you go Criminal and then to a Criminal Advanced Class, you could take an extra base class with your last class slot, and get a bit more available to you with it.
The only class this won't happen with is Ranger. It's a bit too lawful to really fit with any of those advanced classes.

That would unbalance things. There is exactly 3 classes for every stat. Removing Ranger would make 2 stat based Advanced Classes not worth taking, because they would have 1 less feat.

Rangers can still be corrupt. I'm pretty sure that was the whole plot of the second ranger game (not sure, didn't play TOO far into it) Just give them Feats that focus more on weaponizing their Styler. It can already use Hyper Beam and Thundershock. In the hands of a criminal thats pretty deadly.

Ranger is Cha/ Dex for Thief and Con Artist.

For thief maybe a way to remotely use their styler to grab something from a distance.

For Con Artist, maybe something that allows them to sell Companion pokemon (Not befriended pokemon, as those are a dime a dozen and to easy to get OH GOD MONEY EVERYWHERE, Befriended pokemon take time.)

Yeah, I guess it could work with the corrupt Ranger concept. And I like those feats you suggested too, so those will probably be included whenever I end up next updating.
