Okay, character sheets have been read, compiled and thoroughly considered and regions/areas and being populated to meet your requests.

Pokémap making is tougher than I thought it would be. x 3x

Like an hour to make a single town.

Also, how exactly do you guys want to handle encounters?

What exactly do you mean by how to handle them? The suggestion in the GMG is to throw entire families at us.

So when and where are we starting in-game?

EDIT: Also any word on the unown homebrew?

The guide says that pokemon are meant to stay in groups, like animals in real life, and will attack trainers attacking family members. Which leads me to believe we'll be fighting a lot of pokemon in swarms of four. I imagine encounters of one or two pokemon would be boring if two trainers are left to sit it out to give them a fighting chance.

Think of the times in Diamond and Pearl when you team up with a second trainer and go in the wild, you start to fight two wild pokemon at a time. If you start fighting a geodude, a zubat might join in because the fight is now echoing through the once peaceful cave. You can do stuff like that.

I meant, uh

Well, we're obviously not going to be flashing a big insignia on the screen and transitioning onto some tiny pocket battle dimension. Should I just have pokémon laying out on the map? It'd be weird for every encounter to come running at you from off screen. But even weirder to have them be invisible until you notice them/they attack you/you attack them. Just considering things like that.

Also, Halfwing -

Pokémap making is harder than I thought it would be. I thought I could whip up a region's worth of maps in a day's time, but it took me about an hour to make a single city. There's a scale here with originality versus speed. If you guys don't mind playing a new region made out of old routes (which isn't so bad, I guess), we can start playing pretty soon.

Also, hold on. I have to read up on all the moves you mentioned. Just to make sure.
Will probably be okay, though.

It might be faster to make the next map now that you've already done one. It's not like we'll breeze through the whole region either. Those maps will last a while. Either way works for me really, I'd really like to play soon though.

I've gotten used to playing on DnD 3.5e where yeah, you don't show stuff on the map until someone notices it. That's kinda the point. So I'm totally in favor of that, it's not like you see pokemon coming at you when you walk in the tall grass in the games.

Good point.

Also, how are we going to do Metronome?
Scroll through the PHB at random and pick a skill?

And ok, furiously building Route 1 AT MAXIMUM SPEED.

Edit: Homebrew Unown is ok by me.

I was thinking start with hidden power and tackle (hidden power hits everything nearby, good attack, but dangerous) And just see how it goes from there. If a move doesn't work, I am perfectly fine with retconning it.

None of us should know it in the first few days. That should give me enough time to script a macro that randomly chooses an attack.

EDIT: Fucking quoting, how does it work?

Oh, and by when and where, I meant storywise.

Do we all already know each other? Are we all hanging outside the professors lab for our pokedexs? Do we have those and are already on our journey? Whats going on?

What timezone is everyone on? I'm worried about when we'll be able to play because Halfwing and Alphira both said they were going to bed just about when I was waking up. I'm on Mountain Standard Time in the US.

I'm Pacific.

I just stay up REALLY late.

Like 5:00 in the morning late.

Speaking of which I actually have to get to bed early tonight. I work early tomorrow. I'll check the thread when I wake up.
