I might be running a game set in current-day (Gen 7) Hoenn and I'm curioys to know ehat people think might have changed. We know from seeing Red and Green in Alola that at least 10 years have passed since FRLG/ORAS (and I'm tempted to make it 20 in my game), so there's been plenty of time for it.

So, what's been going on?

Honestly, whatever you want. There are really two factors to consider: A) timeline (RSE vs ORAS) and B) how much you want to deviate from canon.

In my game that I'm running on this site, I've basically done a large timeskip after Emerald. All in all, though, not much has changed. Gym leaders/types have been shuffled, fossil restoration is common (thus Rustboro's now the hub for that), the Rustrurf tunnel has been completed, Magma and Aqua have reformed, stuff like that. The vast majority of things are either plot, cosmetic, fluff to help develop the world, or homebrew stuff I've tended to build my campaign around (fusions, type shifters, etc.)

So, that's one way to do it. The other is to figure out what might be introduced (especially if you do ORAS timeline, with Infinity Energy or Link Cable technology or whatnot), and then figure out how that would affect the world. I know that this isn't very helpful in specifics but it's a base.

Oh I know I can change anything, just thought extra eyes on it might generate ideas I hadn't thought of.

Right now I know
*Mega Timeline with some minor breaks from canon
*Most of the leaders are still the same, except New Mauville, where old Wattson was finally talked into letting someone else run the gym, though he still has a position of respect and authority in town.
*The climate disturbances caused by the legendary Pokemon fight in ORAS settled down pretty quickly, but the wild Pokemon population shifts never quite did.
*Most of Team Magma and Aqua (the ones that didn't slip away or skip town) have had their licenses to own Pokemon revoked, either temporarily or for life, and Maxie/Archie are in jail. Maxie consults with the Weather Institute via video chat on occasion.
*The Battle Frontier was completed after a long delay. Wally is one of the several trainers asked by Scott to be a Frontier Brain, but is currently in Alola so it's up in the air who will run what was the Battle Salon in the RSE timeline.
*Regional Variants exist in almost every region, though not usually with the frequency of Alola. Examples in Hoenn include Gastrodon, Skarmory, and Magcargo.
