This is intended as an adaptation of the D&D 3.5 Monk to bring over as a pseudo prestige class for Martial Artists and Aura Guardians. Feedback highly welcome! Monk [Class][+Speed] Prerequisites: Novice Athletics, Novice Intuition, At least two Fighting Moves 1 AP- Swift Action Effect: As a full round action, you may make an unarmed struggle attack, or Rock Smash, if you know it, an amount of times equal to one plus half the number of features you have in this class. In addition, you gain a +2 bonus on saving throws. Evasion [+Speed] Prerequisites: Monk Static Effect: You gain a +2 to Speed Evasion, and your overland speed is increased by one for each Monk feature you possess. Note, this feature does not allow you to exceed the Speed Evasion maximum of +6. Stunning Fist [+Speed] Prerequisites: Monk, Adept Athletics Static Effect: Your attacks now paralyze foes on a 17+. A foe may only be paralyzed in this way once per scene. Ring the Golden Bell [+Speed] Prerequisites: Stunning Fist, Adept Athletics Scene 2x – Swift Action Effect: You may use Physical Moves with a Range of “Melee, 1-Target” as if they had a Range of “X, 1-Target” instead, where X is equal to the number of Monk class features you possess. Diamond Soul [+Speed] Prerequisites: Monk, Adept Intuition Effect: You gain the ability Immunity. Tongue of the Sun and Moon [+Speed] Prerequisites: Monk, Expert Intuition Effect: You can communicate with any creature, regardless of language. Quivering Palm [+Speed] Prerequisites: Stunning Fist, Master Athletics Daily x3 Trigger: You hit with a damaging Physical Move on an adjacent target Effect: After the triggering attack is resolved, the target of the attack gains an Injury and falls asleep. If this attack would put them are 3 or more injuries or at or under 25% of their maximum Hit Points, the target instead becomes Fainted. Quivering Palm may be used only once per Scene Empty Body [+Speed] Prerequisites: Diamond Soul, Master Intuition Swift Action - Bind 2 AP Effect: You gain the Phasing capability. This class has a high requirement for entry. Two fighting moves, means you must have a feature in either martial artist, or aura user. Changing this to one fighting move would normalize it. Also do you want Monk to be a fighting elementalist enhancer? As is, the class misses out on monk like moves such as Zen headbutt, Meditate(With some kind of interesting buff), maybe even magic coat. also this class requires both intuition and Athletics for its features, instead of either. Monk: Because of the way Attack stat and damage base is handled in PTU, this would normally be "Kill target creature." Id suggest something like Double Strike, then later have another feature that upgrades it into triple strike for struggle and rock smash. Also id make this a Scene x2 thing and add in a AC penalty. Evasion & Diamond Soul: These can be rolled into one feature, since normally you get the choice of two abilities in a feature in the core. I'm thinking Ranked 2, with the choice of either Clear Body, Immunity, Discipline, or Wonder Skin Stunning Fist: There is actually a move that emulates stunning fist. "Force Palm" However it is in Aura Guardian. Maybe replace this with Greater Flurry. Empty Body: Shade caller already grants phasing, but in a better way. Quivering Palm:The falling asleep sounds kind of random. Maybe something like "Gains 2 injuries now" and as a free action this scene make them lose 1 tick of HP per injury. New Feature: Still Mind: Learn the following moves. Zen Headbutt, and Meditate. You may use meditate as a shift action. |

I like the idea of importing the Monk from 3.5, and overall I think this works, but I do have a few things to say about it. Also, there is some precedent for a Class requiring multiple Skills - Berserker, Rogue, and Hunter all do. Monk: Yeah, like djtooth said, this is super powerful as-is. Double Strike would be more balanced, though I wouldn't include an Accuracy Check penalty. The Double Swipe Weapon Move exists already, and this wouldn't make your Struggle Attacks that much more powerful than it. Scene x2 could work, especially if you include a scaling to Triple Strike or something. Alternatively, you could grant the Combo Striker Ability. Evasion: This is...deceptively strong. The +2 Speed Evasion is nothing to scoff at, but +8 Overland is crazy. I'd say make it +1 for every two Monk Features you have. +4 is still a big boost, more than any other Feature in the game can give. Stunning Fist: This works pretty well with the base Feat - you can attack more often, so you can Paralyze more, which is basically how Stunning Fist works for Monks in 3.5. However, Force Palm does exist... You could extend the range to 16+ and have the attacks make foes Vulnerable, or leave it as-is, maybe include a clause that it extends Paralysis range by +4 if the Move has a range already. Ring The Golden Bell: The Feature's fine, though it may need some wording tweaks. Diamond Soul: Yeah, I'd add in a choice here. Wonder Skin or Immunity, maybe Early Bird as strange as the name is. Tongue Of The Sun And Moon: This is an interesting Feat, but it doesn't really help the class any and is kind of at odds with the rest of it. The Monk gets this in DND, for sure - but you need to take how PTU works into account when adapting a Class. Channeler sort of serves this purpose already, I think. Still, it's an 8th Feature, so it's not taking anything away from the Class. Quivering Palm: This is actually a (weaker) copy of Dark Ace's Black-Out Strike - and I don't know if fully emulating the original Quivering Palm is that great of an idea in this system... I think this is mostly fine as it is, though djtooth's suggestion isn't bad either. Empty Body: Apparition gets this but better. While I like the flavor of the Feat, and it certainly isn't bad, it needs something extra. Maybe the ability to ignore the loss of HP for a number of turns per day equal to your Intuition/Athletics Rank? Or the ability to make a single Standard Action attack during the Phasing, and have it deal damage as if Resisted. Edited by Thrice, Jun 29 2017, 12:41 PM.

Oh my bad confused shade caller with apparition. Also if you want paralysis in this class, it would be a prime opportunity to add Smelling-Salts in. (Same with sleep and wake up slap) |
