Regarding the Hobbyist skills - the skills come from the Feature itself, so you choose (permanently) what skills will be boosted by the Feature, and whenever you have that Feature active (whether you're in the Hobbyist class or not), you gain that skill boost. Same with edges and the like - everything is bound to the Feature itself, including stat boosts Obviously, you can't use these to qualify for other classes since you don't have access to that skill or edge 24/7, only under certain conditions.
So that makes things like Hobbyist and General Researcher bad for people to take anything in the skills they want? Since they'd have to rebuy the edge normally which renders the benefit useless. Massively weakens those if they can't be used to count for prereqs, and thus can't be used for anything you actually need for the classes you're taking.

But if you make it to where those skills automatically carry over between every class, then you're almost forcing everyone to take Hobbyist to keep up.
This is a tricky situation - either the class is "useless" as you say, or mandatory. Perhaps a compromise would be allowing you to change the skills and edges you get when you use the Hobbyist features? That way, as long as you have even a small amount of prep time, you can fulfill a role quickly?
I'm spitballing here.
