Perhaps it just gives +5 or +10 DR against AoE moves instead of straight up resisting them more?

Oh wow so I couldn't find this thread I didn't realize it was moved, I thought it was deleted! So sorry for the late reply haha I didn't realize this was still up!

But yeah thanks for all your feedback guys, any suggestions on a better moveset? I didn't really know what I was doing haha, so I kind of scrapped bits and pieces of other pokemon from the pokedex to try to help, but are there any guidelines on choosing moves?

I wouldn't say your moveset needs a full rework, just re-ordering two moves. I'd swap Beat Up for Astonish or Poison Sting and either replace Bite or make Beat Up a Tutor move, since the use is pretty niche. Gastro Acid could go up to 36 and be replaced by Pursuit, Harden, Mud-Slap, or Acid.

Not sure if you've come across it before, but there is a quick guide to Fakemon creation, but I find the process of going through various reference Pokemon tiresome, unless there's a specific Pokemon I'm using as a base. Here's the process I follow when creating a moveset:

  • Start brainstorming moves that would fit, writing them all down.
  • Figure out the average level learned of each move and whether it is generally learned by Level-Up, TM, Tutor, or Egg (I have a Google Sheet for that. I might post it after cleaning it up a bit, but no promises.)
  • Use the above information to move any obvious TM/Tutor/Egg moves to their appropriate spot
  • Give the remaining moves an approximate 'level learned'
  • Add high-priority/signature moves to final list
  • Fill in other moves, trying to avoid placing similar moves close together.
On a dual-typed 'mon, I'd shoot for 1-2 'basic' moves like Tackle or Growl, 3-4 damaging moves of each type, 3-4 utility moves, 1 off-type move, and one 'capstone' move. Official Pokemon tend to learn more utility moves, but they also tend to learn more 'bad' moves than the average fakemon.
