So before I get into the topic in question, a few words from me. I'm about to participate in a PTU campaign that has a region which heavily focuses on Poké Ball customization, with almost every town having their own unique variation of the Type Modification. ("Do Porygon Dream of Mareep?", pg.83) Though the GM banned the Jailbreaker class because the setting wasn't going to have cases and attachments, I reasoned with them to at least allow the Poké Ball Mods feature to become a general feature, and asked if I could use some of mine and Sgt. Cookie's homebrewed Poké Ball Mods we had posted a couple of years back in the Ideadrome (according to the post date, around 4 years ago). The GM gave approval, so I set about updating them to a more acceptable format (from my perspective), and now that I've completed them, I figured, "why don't I share the completed project with the rest of the community?" Thus, here I am right now. Well, that's enough of me blabbering on, let's get right into it, shall we? Behold! The Poké Ball Mods expansion! As you can see (or soon will see), this iteration Poké Ball Mods feature has been tuned to be a Ranked 2 General Feature, with any and all capture modifiers having been updated to the d20 capture system implemented in the September 2015 Playtest. For those worrying that they can't use these new modifications in the original unranked Class Feature, do not despair. If you wish to use these new modifications with the original unranked Class Feature, all you have to do is simply expand the list of craft-able modifications to include all of the homebrew modifications listed in the document above. Shout-out to Sgt. Cookie for providing his own Poké Ball Mods, and to the devs for creating them in the first place. If you wish to see the original iterations of this ranked 2 general feature, simply look here, here, here, and here. For those wondering why there isn't a modification for the Timer Ball, that is because I STILL haven't been able to come up a modification for it, and I am absolutely open to suggestions. Please help a fellow community member out here! T-T On another note, the Hidden Modification I made here is still usable, and can easily be fitted into the modifications this feature can craft. I had kept it separate because it was the only modification that specifically requires GM approval, and I'm not sure how many GMs are willing to allow a caught Pokémon immediately get their High Ability as early as Level 1. But if you can get a GM's approval, then by all means go for it! And yeah, that's about it. I haven't had a chance to test out these modifications myself yet, so feedback on their performance is much appreciated. Hope you all enjoy these new Poké Ball Mods! ^-^ |

I've gotta say, these are so great that they make me wish my players were pokeball crafters. |

So my comments: Overall I like them, but some things stuck out to me. For Rival Modification, why same species? Why not just leave it at same gender like Love Ball or the Rivalry Ability? For Fabulous Modification maybe disallow the contest stat that is raised by the disliked flavour of the Pokémon? So Cuddly can't raise Cool cause it lowers Atk? I had another but turned out I was reading it wrong... These are mostly just nitpicky though, they're all good as they are! |

In regards to the Rival Modification: PTU's Love Ball actually states that the Pokémon being captured has to be of the same species, so I was kinda forced to make it the same. For those that don't believe it, see pg 272 of the core book. Here's a screen shot as well. Not sure why the devs made it like that, but that's how it is. :\ ... if any GM wishes to ignore that clause on both the Love Ball and the Rival Ball, then that's absolutely fine. As for players that don't like that clause being there, all I can suggest is that you ask your GMs if they would be willing to ignore that clause. In regards to the Fabulous Modification: I'm having a little trouble understanding the issue with this, so I'm going to assume that you're suggesting that for HP boosting natures, they can't choose the disliked stat as one of the two stats to get 1 contest dice in. If that's what you're asking, then I'm pretty sure the Modification already states this. I think... *goes and double-checks* Yep, that's what it says. If your issue is that it shouldn't do this, then can't help you there: I copy/pasted this modification word-for-word from the DPDoM splatbook (pg.83). Random note: While I was checking the Fabulous Modification in the splat book, I completely forgot that the effect could only be used once per Pokémon. I had added that restriction on the Power and Learning Modifications, but forgot to include that on the Fabulous Modification. I have since fixed that mistake. |

Time for a progress report!
What's to come next?
And yeah, that's pretty much it from me. Get back out there and capture some more Pokémon with these shiny new changes spiffing up your modified Poké Balls! End of progress report. Edit: Whoops I forgot to include the Timer Ball Modification like I said I would. (o3o)' Anyways, here it is! Advantage Modification (Timer Ball)

First off, I apologise for not getting to your question sooner, and I'll address that question now before I continue. Answer: The intent behind the specific rankings of the modifications is to fit the prerequisite edge/feature (Apricorn Balls for Rank 1; Poké Ball Crafter for Rank 2). While it most definitely isn't a perfect way to split the modifications, it's the method I'm sticking to. Secondly, and the main reason for my writing this post, a change to the Love Ball (and in turn the Rival Modification). Numerous times I would look at the Love/Rival Ball and have this thought: "this is way too specific to use. I may as well just use a different ball." I know I ain't the only one, and for those out there that feel the same way, I have come up with a possible solution to this problem. Here it is! Love Ball 2.0 Rival Modification 2.0 Rival Ball 2.0 And there you have it, folks. What I did was basically expand the range of Pokémon the Love/Rival Ball can capture while staying true to its intended purpose, and have subsequently reduced the capture modifier to be in line with Poké Balls that have a similar effect (read: Net, Dusk and Dive Balls). Hopefully this is what you were looking for, and I hope the devs will see this new Love Ball and replace the existing Love Ball when they upgrade to the next system. ^-^ Edited by Staruniva, Jun 12 2017, 09:42 AM.
