Except for the Alola Region, most countries and regions have their own line of gyms to face in order to qualify for the pokemon league. The Orudo Region is one place that is no exception to this. However, unlike other regions, the leaders have their own policies to what themes of pokemon they battle with. For some of them, instead of restricting themselves to a specific type, the theme each one goes with is the pokemon's habitat or biology. To go along with this, some of them have set up their gyms to mimic the natural environment their pokemon live in to make it feel like they're battling on their home turf. As for some of the others, they do still follow the themes of a pokemon's type.

Dr Vergiften, the Psycho Physician "XD 001 and Genesect were just tinker toys." Looming over the cliffs by the river in Mercury City is the gym of Dr. Vergiften. Not too much is known about him, other than what the trainers say after they visit him during Training Season. The doctor never leaves the building and only keeps contact with the rest of the league members. To his visitors, he is rather aloof and is often busy with his research and let's his pokebots tend to them. Every year, when trainers come to his door, he sends his fembot, Uta002 to guide them in their trial while he works. His trial changes every year, so nobody knows exactly what he chooses to use next. One year, he put the trainers in a giant maze with traps and trained pokemon to ambush them. Another year was when he gave them a puzzle, where they had to create an acid to corrode the locks that led to the gym floor. Whatever the trial, it just buys him time to finish his work before taking on trainers. The pokemon he uses for battle are usually any that he has experimented on. The majority of his team have been augmented with cybernetic parts and, if that wasn't enough, he tosses status increasing chemicals to keep the match in his favor. If he is defeated, he rewards trainers with his badge and TM. Volatile Badge Appearance: A graduated beaker that is filled with a multicolored liquid that swirls and changes color under the light. A watermark symbol is barely visible. It appears to be a red cross at one angle, but changes to a purple skull on another. Effect: Raises Special Defense by 1 CS. Gym TM: Quicksilver Type: Steel Category: Special DB: 1 Damage Roll: 1d6+1 Frequency: EOT AC: 3 Range: 6, 1 target Effect: The user spits a glob of mercury at the oppoenent. The attack confuses the target on 10-14, poisons the target on 15-19, or both on 20. Low Rank Team Magnemite, Koffing, Voltorb, Grimer (Metallic Form), Rattata, Porygon Mid Rank Team Magneton, Koffing, Electrode, Grimer (Metallic Form), Raticate, Porygon 2 High Rank Team Magnezone, Weezing, Electrode, Muk (Metallic Form), Raticate, Porygon Z Edited by Dr.Webster, Feb 26 2017, 10:34 PM.

Rook - The Most Dangerous Game Rook is a hunter for hire. Not so much a poacher, who illegally catches or kills pokemon for money. He's actually licensed to catch rare pokemon for professors that need starters for new trainers. Unfortunately, the recent years were unkind to his business after Professor Elm made strides in his studies about pokemon breeding. With more and more professors doing breeding programs to keep a steady supply of pokemon, Rook has resorted to doing commissioned hunts for rich clients and safari zones that want a rare species for their collections. After achieving the rank of gym leader, he moved his base of operations to Aura City. Rook's gym is a giant terrarium with all sorts of pokemon that roam freely within the indoor forest. Whenever trainers want to challenge him, he gives them a trial, which involves them exploring the gym while avoiding traps set by his pokemon. If they succeed, he is willing to battle the trainers for the badge. Rook's team normally consists of predatory species of pokemon. His favorite ones to use are bug-types, because he has found that in all the natural world, arthropods have proven to be the most efficient hunters. While in his gym, Rook's team gets bonuses for hiding in the foliage and some of them will use the trees to attack from above. Hunter's Badge Appearance: The badge resembles a bulls-eye that is centered on a head of a deer-like pokemon, a Sawsbuck in its winter form. The pokmon and the bulls-eye are colored in black and white, but the gaps between the lines have holofoil in the pattern and colors of camouflage gear. Effect: Increases accuracy by 1 CS. Gym TM: False Swipe Low Rank Team Trapinch, Spinarak, Joltik, Scyther, Houndour Mid Rank Team Ariados, Scyther, Durant, Houndoom, Skarmory High Rank Team Ariados, Galvantula, Scizor, Houndoom, Skarmory Edited by Dr.Webster, Mar 1 2017, 09:48 PM.
