Sometimes, while on a journey across a region, the trainers might want to take some down time and have some fun when they reach a city's entertainment district. For many of the regions based on areas in Japan, some of these places are the Game Corners. Here, trainers can play games you may find in a casino and win tokens that can be traded for rare items and pokemon. Before I go any further, I have to address the elephant in the room. Isn't it illegal to gamble in Japan; let alone a fictional version of Japan with ten-year-olds playing at the slots? Well, the reason that these places don't get shut down sooner than a Rocket Game Corner or have kids getting arrested for underage gambling could be simply explained away by the GM. However, my input would be that there is a loophole due to what is actually being rewarded for the risks. Instead of money, all trainers win in these establishments are just tokens. However, also thanks to the loophole, they can go to a building next door to trade the tokens for prizes. But what of the other regions? Well, it looks like the ten-year-olds are out of luck, because ever since the release of Black and White, the Game Corners no longer exist. Even before that, the slot machines were replaced by a minesweeper game in both Johto and Kanto to be safe from gambling complaints. It makes sense, given that these regions are based off of countries that don't regularly have pachinko parlors and have full on casinos where people can win money. Still, that is a bit harsh since they didn't even leave these kids with an arcade to win prizes and the adults don't get any fun of their own. So, I decided to make throw in a few concepts of games that can be played based on the Player Characters' ages and what they can win for playing. Note: These concepts should be used sparingly. They can and will distract everyone from the campaign. Some of them can even be time consuming, if you have that one player with a gambling addiction. With that warning out of the way, let's jump right in! But, for now, let's start with arcades. Arcades ![]() If you want a place that's fun for trainers of all ages, look no further than the local arcade. In this area, trainers can play video games, skee ball, shoot hoops, and many other games to win tickets. These tickets can be used to purchase prizes over the exchange corner. It's entirely up to the GM what type of games are in the establishment and what prizes there are, but here are a couple concepts to help you along. Keep in mind that these are only concepts at the moment as I have not thought of the complete rules for them yet. These are actually good scenarios to consider. It might be good to try these in either a casino that is owned by a criminal organization or a bar that has poker tables. However, this also brings up something I may have to put in as a rule for most casinos. They don't allow pokemon from outside the establishment. The last thing they want to do is let a trainer in with a psychic or ghost pokemon, like rotom or hypno, to come in and cheat for their money. |

Arcade Prize Corner![]() This where the players can buy tokens to play games and exchange the tickets they won for prizes.A lot of times, the prizes consist of pretty cheap plastic toys, buttons, cups, and plush dolls. In the pokemon world, they have a little bit more to choose that trainers may find to be useful. These could range from TM's to poke dolls or to even rare candy. Tokens In most scenarios, tokens are shiny coins that are gold in color that work like currency in the arcade. Each game takes a certain number of tokens that is shown in the coin slots in order to play. Each token costs about 20.
Prizes It's completely up to the GM what prizes are behind the counter. It could be plastic vampire teeth, silk scarves, contest items, or anything else that's left to the imagination. Of course, it may be a bit of work to think of everything and the amount of tickets needed, so I made a list of examples to make things a little easier.

Casinos While the arcade is where kids can have their fun to get toys or items for their pokemon, the casino is where the adults play for cold hard cash. In the pokemon world, certain regions have made gambling an illegal practice, but criminal gangs, like Team Rocket, have usually found ways to work around this. They even made it to where kids could join in the fun with the loopholes I mentioned before. However, in other regions, where gambling is completely legal, they often have much stricter rules to stay in good terms with the laws and to keep things fair for their players. 1. Nobody under the age of 21 is allowed inside. This can be adjusted, depending on the GM's decisions with the age range of the trainers, but this is the usual age where anybody can legally gamble in these places. 2. No pokemon from outside the casino are allowed. Anybody entering should leave their entire team at the front desk before entering the casino floor. Only pokemon trained by the staff are allowed. Anyone caught with a pokemon in their possession will be removed from the casino and all their winnings are taken away. If the pokemon in question happens to be a rotom or any psychic-types, the offender will be fined. 3. No cheating. Security cameras are set up all over the buildings to make sure this doesn't happen. Players who do wish to cheat and test their sticky fingers can do so by succeeding in a series of Guile checks. If they fail enough times, they will get caught and removed from the casino. 4. Don't harass the staff or their pokemon. They don't care how drunk you are or how angry you are for losing everything. If anyone bothers the staff and their pokemon in a way that hinders them from doing their job, the offender will be given a few warnings before they are asked to leave the premises. It gets worse when it involves violence or sexual behavior. The staff can and will use any means to defend themselves. 5. No weapons. Security will ask for you to leave if you even bring it anywhere near the casino floor. You could try to fight to keep that gun, but keep in mind that they came prepared with their own. These are only but a few rules that are established if you want to play in these areas. Sometimes, they can be ignored in certain conditions, like if the casino in question is secret or owned by a criminal gang. |

Casino Games Slot Machines and Video Slots What's a casino without slot machines? It's probably the most common and simple game you can play in them. You just put in your bets, pull the lever, and watch it spin. If three symbols match, you win! However, there is still one problem. Isn't this supposed to be a tabletop game? How would anyone play a slot machine in their imagination? My answer is to use the dice as normal. For regular slot machines, the rules are very simple. Roll 3d6 to see if any of the numbers match. The larger the matching numbers are, the greater the reward. For flavor purposes, each number represents a symbol. To keep it easy, let's use the symbols from the game corner in the Japanese version of Heart Gold and Soul Silver.

Video Poker Machines Video poker is actually simple to get into and it allows people to think of how they can increase their chances to get winning hands. However, it can be the most time consuming form of gambling because of how much thought can go to each time they deal. You will see the hours pass by like minutes as they make deal after deal, trying to win the most money possible. It's recommended that you use an actual video poker application or electronic game to play this while the player records all the money they lost and gained with their bets. If none of that is available, then using a standard deck of playing cards will suffice. Of course, that will just be like playing at an actual poker table with a dealer (the GM) providing the cards instead of the computer.
