One interesting difference between the video games and PTU is how pokemon stats increase, and how certain features and items can affect the base stat relations. In the games, you'd want a nature that boosts your main stat and lowers your dump stat, however in PTU modifying your stats enough to alter your base stat relations could allow you to focus your increases in certain stats. My question is if people tend to take advantage of this, and how they distribute stats in general depending on the pokemon's role. I've made some observations on that, and I was wondering if people's experiences matches them.

For instance if you intend for a pokémon to be a special attacker, seeing as most special attacks are ranged and most physical attacks are melee, you might want to focus on SpAtk and SpDef and defend from physical attacks by kiting or otherwise avoiding them. That way you can avoid spending points on Def and put those on the stats you care. But if your Hp, for example, is lower than your Def, you might find yourself forced to put points into Def even though they are 'wasted'. Atk is easily ignored with the Attack Conflict edge, in case it was higher than the defensive stats. So even though Atk is the obvious dump stat, and even though Def serves more of a purpose, a nature that lowers Def might be better in the long term, since you can use HP boosting vitamins later to flip the stat relation.

Do people tend to plan this way? Is it effective? Or do you generally not focus on affecting base stat relations too much?
