Good day to you all! As a fan of Pokemon and table top RPGs in general, I love the PTU. However, the last two sessions in the game I'm in have me at a bit of an impasse RP wise. I am the group's PKMN Breeder and our survivalist caught a Sneasel during the night with out my character's knowledge. I know both in character and out that Sneasel are notorious egg eaters and are a bane to breeders. The game is very story heavy and not everyone in the party has the desire to catch every single pokemon we come across, quite frankly, we are more than content to just pass them by and let them be. Except for our survivalist, who is bound and determined to catch every single thing he comes across, which has gotten us into some pretty precarious and even life threatening situations. He's playing it far more like the video game and not the story or rpg element. It slows progression and makes the story progress that much slower. We are a four player group not including our GM. I want to play the role of breeder that loathes Sneasel specifically due to the very nature of a Breeder, but not make it feel like I have it out for him. Which in more cases than not . . . he calls down on his own head. Any advice? :-/

I see two things to do:
- the gm says that this sneasel doesn't steal eggs because it is now a domesticate pokemon and not a wild pokemon
- the player doesn't use the sneasel (because as you say it, he will catch all pokemon just for the fun of it and not for his team composition) so it will stay in his pokeball or get transferred in a box

Either you work it out with the player and his use of the pokemon or you work it out by modifying the pokemon behavior.

Also, the gm can say 'fuck it' and sneasels aren't a danger for eggs anymore, the PTU books are not the holy grail, that's why you have a gm, it's his job to make the game fun and free for everyone and as a player, your job is to talk out everything as a team, don't make it strict for yourself.

*remembering the first time, his players worked as a team on the murder of a king with a tear of pride in his eye*

1) RP how you want to RP. Just be clear that it's IC RP and not OOC resentment or something. That being said, if IC you don't know he has a sneseal, shouldn't be an issue. IC party conflict can be great fun and is rife for opportunities to develop characters and really flesh them out so long as everyone is on board OOC with it happening.

2) Might be worth bringing up the pacing issue in general if you feel comfortable doing so. You don't need to call anyone out, but just brainstorm how you can efficiently use your gaming time by picking encounters that are truly significant.

Transparency and openness are always the right answer in parties imo. Nothing like resentment or passive aggression to let things fester (not saying you're either, but it's happened to me more than a few times)

EDIT: I'd also recommend this article by Rich Burlew, which touches on inter party conflict in a profound way.

This article is really good! To cite it

In the end, your relationships with the people you are sitting in someone's living room with are more important than your character's internal consistency.

Thanks. I was already leaning toward that and there are some other issues, but those are more easily taken care of. Good gaming to all of you!
