Hi everyone, I am gming PTU for like over a year now and a friend wanted to give it a go at gming a ptu session to see my side of the board, unfortunately he didn't like it because of the rule-heavy system. Can you give me some recommandations for a rule-lite system that can go well with a (deep) fantastical setting like Pokemon? (also he likes D100) Someone said, they tried Fate Core and it worked really well, i didn't had time to dig in it but if others recommend it too i might give it another shot. Thanks for your time. Fate is versatile enough you can do just about anything with it, but you do have to make some alterations to make it work. Fate Core would give slightly deeper mechanics, FAE would be faster and handle things easier if you stat the Pokémon up as full characters. There are a few pages in the Fate SRD that give ideas how to handle sidekicks/summoned-creature stuff that would work well for Pokémon: Extras (the easiest way to handle Pokémon would be as extras on a Trainer - check out the pages right after it for some examples of more or less complex extras) Gadgets and Gear (the way they handle gadgets works pretty well if you want Pokémon to be a little less complex than trainers) Storm Summoners (for one way to deal with summoned creatures, especially the "Wisp Master" stuff at the end of the page) You could probably design a Pokémon-related PbtA game as well (Powered by the Apocalypse, the same system games like Apocalypse World, Dungeon World, Monsterhearts, Masks: A New Generation, etc., run on). It'd be more work for the initial design phase since you'd have to define moves (in the PbtA sense) and such, figure out playsheets (basically different trainer classes), all that sort of thing, but once it's actually running the rules are fairly simple. |
