Well, I've already gone on about most of the Classes in another thread, so I'll just link that here. Occultism Researcher Ninja Dragon Ace Herald of Pride Earth Shaker Druid Elemental Connection In General I don't mean to sound vitriolic here, but it's just hard to be a whiny bitch about things that really don't matter a whole lot without coming off that way, you know? You understand. |

IIRC, the double elemental connection thing isn't so much the mechanical power of type coverage but due to the narrative power that elementalists possess over mundane classes. Personally, I am fine with not being able to double down on EC, if only because, well, isn't type coverage something your pokemon are for? Anyway, I agree 100% on Occultism researcher. It is terribly narrow and situational. I have never used it, but I did gm a game where a player took it and I eventually just let them retrain. It requires the GM to custom tailor their campaign around it for the features to be useful, introducing a ton of psychics and stuff, and that's just not good. I feel like it's probably a holdover from PTA when psychics were busted as hell, iirc. For it to be effective, the research field would need to be way more applicable to a wider range of situations. Likewise, I feel the exact same about Dragon Ace. I will admit, I still miss 1.04 ninja, though that probably had way too much utility packed into it. I unno. Anywho, if there is a class to bitch about, I'd say it's Chronicler, for the exact same reasons of Occultism Researcher. The idea in itself is cool, but the problem is that the class is really predicated a ton on recurring NPCs and recurring locations, both of which can be difficult for the GM to incorporate. You never know when you can use Profile Archive and it's pretty worthless against things like wild pokemon, random goons, or named NPCs you don't encounter often or at all after the first time--the fact that you can only put things into your archive as an extended action means you will be unlikely to make use of it during a battle or an encounter you didn't expect. Technique Archive suffers from the same, and Travel Archive is perhaps the most reliable. As a result, nearly all of the features of the class are very unreliable and GM dependent on whether or not you can trigger them, more so than other classes. If the archives were perhaps more broad or something, or were less reactionary, it might be a bit better. Edited by FanaticRat, Jan 12 2017, 02:28 PM.

As someone who gave his players double elemental connections because of the narrative (and my players were complaining about feeling weak), what do you mean by elementalists having more narrative power? Do you mean they're just cooler than regular classes? |

It's easier to give them (and other magic classes) plot hooks and harder to create scenarios for mundane classes to shine with magic friends around. The ability to fly, create fire or water, move the earth around you, etc all easily show up things people can do with mundane classes Channeler isn't elementalist but it's the biggest offender imo See also: angel summoner and BMX bandit |

On the Ninja thing, that class was, imo, PRIMED to basically be a Supernatural Martial Artist. Especially with the bevy of Poison type 'mon, it's pretty easy to make a few "styles" that resemble them. And this isn't hyperbole, I've been toying with a homebrew version of just that. (But... it's me doing the homebrewing here... sooooo... take a BIIIIIIG pinch of salt if I ever get around to posting it.) The current version of Ninja is just... bland. And Genjutsu is just... bad. And that's because the DC to bypass it is too low. Assuming a Master level Stealth with no Virtuoso, we get a DC of... 16. The back of the core book gives us some handy dandy percentage values for certain DCs, so let's look at DC 16:
Yeah... when an ability only has a TEN PERCENT SUCCESS RATE at high levels, then it's not a very good ability. But wait, I hear you ask, what about DC 18!?
Oh, yay. That's slightly better. A twenty percent success rate! Woo-hoo! Break out the champagne! Why Genjutsu wasn't just a "hide in plain sight" ability that let you make an opposed roll is beyond me. (On the bright side, though, we SHOULD be getting actual sneak attack rules in the next update. Codifying rules for that sort of thing apparently just slipped Doxy's mind.) |

Oh, that's a fantastic point. Chalk up another benefit to running with a 2-man party: it's hard for one player to outshine the other. |

Ninja getting some physical Poison attacks wouldn't be bad, especially since Miasmic is entirely special so the only point of overlap would be one that already exists anyhow (i.e. Toxic). I think Tree Druids getting Life Force is kind of a holdover from 1.04, when everything got two stat tags. At that point Tree Oath was the tanky oath rather than the physical attack oath (and had a big combo - Druid's capstone was a second ability and one Tree Oath's options was Abominable; Tree Oath also got Wood Hammer in that edition, so Recoilless Wood Hammer was a thing). Many of Tree Oath's options still lean toward tanky, but a) it doesn't get the support it did before with [+HP,Def] stat tags, and b) they didn't give it a very good ability. (Maybe it should get Sap Sipper? Its original starter option was Photosynthesis, which wasn't that great either. And Abominable would be kind of weird with no Recoil moves in Druid anymore.) |

Isn't Maelstrom a kinda useless class? It's extremely situational since you need a water source to use moves and gilled has its perks, if there's a large body of water nearby. |

I don't see any indication that a water source is necessary to use the moves. You can either fluff it as just creating water out of nowhere or by pulling water molecules out of the atmosphere. Gilled is niche yeah, but really useful when you need it. Nothing to scoff at. It's not the most powerful class around, but its still a solid combat class, especially with access to Wash Away. |

Maelstroms aren't waterbenders, they don't need a source to start throwing water at you. And given that Water is such a great offensive type as-is, the class is nothing to scoff at. There's nothing as immediately grabbing as, say, Shadow Form, but sometimes it's cool to just be the dude that blasts people with water and walks around shirtless. |
