Working on a PTU character. She's an island princess, think Disney Princess, but the badass kind like in Brave or Moana. Rider/Herald of Pride, starting with a Gible and Ponyta. Her story is that she was chosen by the lava dragon her people worship to carry the gible, which is colored black/red/orange like lava. I'm thinking that either she's not the first born and thus adventures to bring honor and fame to her family, or she is in line for the throne and travels to be blessed by other elemental god pokemon on other islands. One of the other players is from the same tribe as a Ground Ace focusing on Sandstorms. Think Sparta in that they send the boys out to the sandstorms for training and to be toughened by the harsh environment. I won't be using a specific type of pokemon, but rather use ones that are majestic looking/regal. Think stuff like Amaura, Serperior, Milotic, though I've not nailed down specific mons yet I need to find a good class to pair with these two for when I have to do League sanctioned matches and could use any other advice you find applicable |

You're gonna shift that Serperior to Grass/Dragon, right? I'm pretty sure Taskmaster stuff works in League matches, right? It's a bit harsh of a way to beef up your pokemon, but when it works, it works. You don't need to be brutal or abusive with how you do it, but it can make your pokemon downright nasty while fitting the prideful aspect of your character. After all, if you'll push yourself to reach your goals, why would you expect less from your pokemon? If you don't want her to be so harsh, then you could just go for Commander and have a more authoritative figure. Both classes represent a different kind of ruler, so to speak. If you want, you can also add certain cultural references to your Island Princess, depending on what type of island tribe she comes from. If she is based on Pacific Islanders, then one major animal they have that's important to their culture is the pig. In Polynesian, New Guinea, and Hawaiian tribes, the pig is seen as a sign of wealth and social status. In Hawaii, people who owned a pig were considered to be of higher rank. So, for the princess to show off her status or rank in the tribe while bringing honor to her family, she could be accompanied by either a Tepig or a Spoink. Yes, I know neither of these creatures are majestic or regal in any way, but to these cultures, they made people seem more like chieftains.

I dunno, I'd say Emboar is pretty freakin' majestic. The only reason I'd be hesitant to use him is that I'll be starting with a Ponyta so I can start with a mon I can ride, and I'd rather not use two fire types. |

On the subject of other classes, Herald of Pride's skills lead into some potentially nice options. l33tmaan already mentioned Taskmaster and Commander - if neither of those grab you, Ace Trainer is always very useful, if somewhat generic, and Intimidate also gets you into Mentor if you're willing to grab another Mentor skill (but Intuition and Charm are both good skills for a princess to have, and since you've got Herald you don't really need much Combat so you can focus on being regal and still kick butt). Unfortunately there aren't a lot of Acrobatics or Athletics based classes that give you league legal options - unless you go for Type Ace, which seems unlikely since you're not focusing on a specific type much, it's pretty much just Enduring Soul and Juggler. Also, Spoink and Grumpig are totally regal. They've got all those pearls. (Besides, who's going to tell a dragon princess her Pokémon aren't majestic?) Edited by carnackiArdent, Jan 3 2017, 11:50 AM.

If this dragon is so important to your trainer and her culture, have you considered picking up Dragon Type Ace? I mean, regality is all fine and good, but a lot of those Pokemon are either dragons or influenced by dragons anyway. I'd also like to note that the majority of fully-evolved dragons are ride-able, and I can't be the only one who thinks a dragon-pony sounds really cool. |

I think it's mostly this particular dragon that is important, not all dragons in general. I think I'm mostly just going to have Gible for a dragon. As for Ponyta I was thinking of asking if the GM would let me have it be black with blue flames instead of the normal coloring. |

I know I bring this up near every time, but ... Hunter gives you a great combo with Pack Hunt with your mounted Pokemon. Every time one of you attacks its basically a free tick. Plus it fits with the whole wild badass vibe. If you're looking for some league-legal options ... Dragon Ace is kind of limiting in my experience, perhaps maybe Attack Ace? |

If you're also running Hunter I'd say Stat Maneuver is really good, lets you trigger lots of Pack Hunts on multiple things at once. Turning things into Pass Moves should work well in particular since you're also a Rider. The main thing though is how it lets you boost your base stat. I'd look at Pokemon based on their moves or their abilities rather than their species stats since you can mold them more. |
