Does anybody else think there's a slew of ripe potential for the concept of Ultra Space and Ultra Beasts? New classes, edges, features, all sorts of shenanigans could be worked out with these guys depending on how the direction for the new edition of the game goes!

I was wondering if anybody else had some thoughts on the subject, as I used to do a tabletop persistent world game with a bunch of friends, and we had a damn good time of it. Was thinking I might try and pick up off of that at some point with some other friends.

Personally, I saw it as a canon way to introduce non-canon Pokemon. They've now outright stated that interdimensional travel is possible, and that Pokemon-like creatures from another dimension can arrive in the Pokemon world.

So if you ever want to introduce Fakemon to your game, you can just use Ultra Wormholes, or an equivalent for a slightly different dimension.

I like the idea of using the wormholes for inter-dimensional travel, but I don't think that the Ultra Beasts are necessarily from another world.

To understand this idea you need to have some knowledge on the multi-world theory.

Every instance of players' games acts as a alternate reality; where the only difference is who the protagonist is. Trading between games is a easy form of inter-dimensional travel as there is so much similarity between them. The less the parallel universes resemble each other, the more difficult travel between them gets (like the differences between Pokemon Ruby and Omega Ruby). Imagine the wormholes as a means of bridging between alternate realities that are more distantly related to your own. The way this is done is passing through Ultra Space to essentially skirt around the similar realities. The Ultra Space is not really a true dimension itself, but instead the space that is present between realities.

Ultra Beasts could be either the natives of Ultra Space or have adapted to surviving there after being stranded there. This could make the introduction of Fakemon a somewhat interesting prospect. Travel to get the desired Fakemon is a challenge onto itself as you have to traverse Ultra Space to reach them. You may encounter these dangerous creatures during your trip or may get lost along the way. Treat the atmosphere in Ultra Space as toxic to humans and Pokemon to discourage players from staying too long (the Upside Down from Stranger Things would be a good analogue for this).

And nobody was surprised that EK saw the fakemon potential <3

As far as classes, I think that all that can be done with Ultra Beasts is adding another field of study onto the Researcher. This new branch would specialize in studying/altering properties of dimensions. One such thing they could create is a space-warping device that can, once per scene, cause a Pokemon to gain the Reach Capability for one turn. Further study into accessing other dimensions could also allow for developing machines that allow for long distance teleportation; such a machine would be very expensive to make and likely needs a long time to recharge between teleports. The fields final feature would be to allow access to alternate dimensions or separate realities.

Another idea for how to use Ultra Space is having it be used as a prison. Multiple realities send extremely dangerous creatures/beings there when they become too powerful to contend with. The eons that the Ultra Beasts have spent in Ultra Space has altered their bodies, powers, and memories. Sungaleo and Lunala act as wardens in a sense as they are the one of the few beings that are able to open the Wormholes.

Not likely anything important, but if Ultra Space is only accessible via wormhole wouldn't Hoopa have some ability to control it as well? Or is Hoopa only able to open portals within the world it is currently present in?

The UBs have a definite lot of potential for things. Maybe there could be some kind of class specializing in them? Maybe something sort of like a fusion sorta ability like the final fight against Lusamine? Sorta like the Synthesist Summoner archetype from Pathfinder, where both the summon and summoner act as a single unit that share their abilities. Maybe it could grant a temporary Beast Boost to a Pokemon once a scene, or maybe it could be used for combat in some capacity, granting a trainer a typing temporarily and expanding their move list to include all or part the UB's move list.

I'm running the Ultra Beasts in my upcoming campaign as Outsider-type gods (blanket giving them all Beast Boost as a full legendary aura and an aura I'm calling 'Dimensional' to account for Wormhole travel, haven't decided if I'm using third auras as options or not). Beast Boost lends itself pretty well to an aura, plus there's a lot of potential to make UB cults in a Blessed and the Damned heavy campaign.

Plus UBs could make for some pretty interesting boss encounters that the Players will have to think on their feet about IC, depending on how known UBs are in universe since you can't really knowledge check about something that isn't at all known in a given dimension.
