So I was looking at defensive builds, and while Pokemon support classes like Defense Ace and Enduring Soul are great and all, I noticed that there's not much in the way of filling a tank's traditional role in RPG's, which is to soak and sponge damage for your party. Yes, Defender exists in Game of Throhs, but I wanted something more for Pokemon. Thus, I give you ... the Warden!

Wardens are trainers willing to dive into the line of fire for their friends, and hold their Pokemon to do the same. Their Pokemon excel at drawing fire and attention away from the enemy, with their fair share of tricks handy for keeping them in the fight. Many Wardens are found in law enforcement and security professions laying their lives on the line to protect innocents, though Wardens being employed as bodyguards for less than reputable individuals is not unheard of ...

Warden is complimented particularly well by other classes and features whose main function is to keep your Pokemon alive, such as Medic, Guardian Orders, or Defense/Special Defense Ace.

Quote:

Warden
[Class]
Prerequisites: Novice Charm, Novice Intimidate
Your Pokemon may attempt to Intercept for any target, regardless of loyalty.

Center of Attention
Prerequisites: Warden
[Order][Stratagem]
Bind 2 AP – Standard Action
Target: Your Pokémon
Effect: While this Feature is Bound, the target’s Moves cause foes to become Marked by the target for 1 full round.

Marked foes take a penalty to Attack Rolls against any targets besides you equal to your Charm or Intimidate Rank divided by two, whichever is higher. A Mark from a different source will overwrite your Mark.

In the Line of Fire
Prerequisites: Warden
At-Will – Extended Action
Target: Your Pokémon with at least 2 Tutor Points remaining
Effect: Your Pokémon loses 2 Tutor Points and gains your choice of the Bodyguard or Decoy Ability. You may only target a Pokémon once with In the Line of Fire.

Roll With the Punches
Prerequisites: Warden, Adept Charm or Intimidate
Scene x2 - Free Action
Trigger: Your Pokemon successfully Intercepts an attack.
Effect: Your Pokemon gains a tick of Temporary Hit Points. If the Intercepted Move was a Physical-Class Move the Pokemon gains +1 Combat Stage in Defense, and if the Intercepted Move was a Special-Class Move, the Pokemon gains +1 Combat Stage in Special Defense. Apply Roll With the Punches before resolving damage.

Hold the Line
Prerequisites: In the Line of Fire, Expert Charm or Intimidate
At-Will – Extended Action
Target: Your Pokémon with at least 1 Tutor Point
Effect: Your Pokémon loses 1 Tutor Point, and learns your choice of Block or Wide Guard, even if your Pokémon cannot normally learn this Move:

Protect and Swerve
Prerequisites: Roll With the Punches, Expert Charm or Intimidate
Effect: Your Pokemon may use Intercept Maneuvers as a Shift Action Interrupt. If under the effects of Sentinel Stance, your Pokemon may instead use an Intercept Maneuver as a Free Action, using any unused movement.

Hunker Down
Prerequisites: Roll With the Punches, Master Charm or Intimidate
[Order]
2 AP - Shift Action
Target: Your Pokemon
Effect: The target resists all attacks one step further, is immune to the secondary effects of all moves, and is immune to critical hits until the end of your next turn. Hunker Down may only be used once per Scene per Pokemon.

Feedback appreciated.

Just noting that the Effect line of "In the Line of Fire" references "Effective Methods".

Beware, traveler, of the dangers of copy pasting! Just when you think you got them all ...

Good catch though, thanks!

One stop short of lunacy.

I really like this! You may want to specify a Target for Hunker Down... and should it be an Order? I'm not the best balance-wise but it almost seems underpowered for a keystone ability. Perhaps consider making it reactionary? (Though people with more balance-sense might want to give input on that suggestion)

I thought there was something off aside from the overlap with Fighting Ace.

Suggestion: Grant Defender through class feature instead, if it's required for the concept?

Or just take it out, possibly. Although on-theme, it's somewhat out of place with the rest of the class. Defender is about taking hits yourself, while all of this class' own feats are about your pokemon taking hits. I'd probably be inclined to either remove the Defender prerequisite or have one or two of class' feats also do something to the Trainer themselves (like most of the feats from Hunter do, for example).

I mostly just wanted to include a nonskill in the prerequistes and Defender was the only thing that really fit thematically. It *is* possible to grab everything at first level, but I agree it's pretty steep and rather unnecessary.

@Aiseya Yeah that should absolutely read as an Order (and yes, it is intended to be compatible with Battle Conductor). The main draw for it is supposed to be that it applies against a bunch of hits in one turn, but yeah it could probably use a buff. I want it to be able to take advantage of all the Free Action Intercepts available with the Sentinel Stance stack, so I'm gonna have to tinker with it a bit.
