So I just had an interesting experience.
I made an account way back in April and may or may not have specified an email address, thinking it didn't much matter and I didn't want my email out there.

That's when the problems started.

The forum didn't have (or dropped) my email, but still asked me to verify my an account by following a link on an email they sent to my nonexistant account.
I found myself in a cycle where I couldn't do anything:

It wanted to verify my account via email, which it didn't have.
I couldn't give it my email, because I didn't have the permissions to.
I didn't have the permissions because I hadn't verified my email.

In addition, having an account in the process of verification locks you out of pretty much everything apart from viewing posts.
Frustrated, I left the forum and didn't come back.

Until now.

I got back in, and my nascent account was still there. It was like it was in limbo - absolutely no way to get out of the situation, and absolutely no way to call for help. I couldn't make an account with the same name because it was taken (by myself, in case it wasn't clear enough) and I couldn't use my standard email because it was already claimed that as well (though that in itself is also strange since my limbo account actively said it didn't have an email address).

The workaround was easy enough but the principle remains.

This forum has, or at least had, an unchecked case which made new accounts impossible to use, while still blocking others from using their credentials.

As a Software Quality Engineer, this is unacceptable. There are a number of easy fixes:

  • Make the email field required
  • Give validating accounts permissions to change their email
  • Have a timeout on account validation, after which the accounts are removed.

I'm not angry, but I would like to see this fixed, and if possible switch back from this (hopefully) burner account to the credentials I wanted to use and still do.

So it looks like this particular account hasn't looged in since September 21st, but just in case...

I took a look at the account, and it does have the email address you listed. Have you tried it recently? I'm wondering if someone edited your account for you to plug that email address in.

Regardless, I've moved "OtherGuy52" from the Validating group to the Members group. This is my first time doing something like this, so hopefully it works out and means that particular account can post.

...

That said: calm and polite requests will get you more sympathy. Your sub-title - "you guys need to fix your shit" - doesn't inspire that. I can appreciate your frustration, but please remember to be civil about it while you're here.

Alright, just wanted to get that out of the way. If you ever return, I hope you'll have fun and enjoy Pokemon Tabletop while you're here!
