Please give me any ideas you have for a class I am pitching to my DM, be it mechanical or roleplay in nature. Thanks in advance! Photomancer- Wielding their camera and albums like a wizard might use a staff and spellbook, a Photomancer's role in the group is as myriad as their imagination allows. They use their Chronicler archives to a mystical heightened effect, and use photomanipulation to alter the battlefield on a whim. Photomancer [Class][+Speed] 1AP- Standard Action Prerequisites: Chronicler, Novice Perception, Ability to use the move Flash either as a move or via an item, likely the Photomancer's Camera. Trigger: The Photomancer uses Flash Effect: When the Photomancer uses Flash, they may choose to either increase its potency or area affected. The move is altered to become -3 accuracy on a success, or Burst 2. Creative Photoshop and Usage of Filters: [Ranked 2] [+Speed] Rank 1 Prerequisites: Novice Perception Rank 2 Prerequisites: Adept Perception Static Effect: Learn two Photomancer Moves from the list below. You may choose any Move marked with the Photomancer Rank you are taking or lower. Rank 1: Camouflage, Copycat, Embargo, Memento, Mirror Move, Recycle, Torment, Trick Rank 2: Hail, Magnet Rise, Mimic, Rain Dance, Recover, Sandstorm, Snatch, Sunny Day, Topsy Turvy Intensive Focus: [+Speed] Prerequisites: Photomancer, Adept Perception Static When a Photomancer uses a move granted by Photomancer class features, they may use the better of their Attack, Special Attack, or triple their Perception as a bonus on damage rolls, instead of the standard Attack or Special Attack respectively for Physical or Special moves. Cut: [+Speed] Prerequisites: Photomancer, Master Perception, Travel Archive Drain 3 AP- Extended Action Suppress a Travel Archive photo to travel to that location with up to 5 willing allies. That location is rendered ineffective for archive purposes for one day while it redevelops. Copy: [+Speed] Prerequisites: Photomancer, Expert Perception, Profile Archive Bind 2 AP- Extended Action Suppress a Profile Archive photo in order to become that target physically. Although the user gains movement capabilities of the chosen target, such as the ability to fly if the target has wings, they gain no other strengths, such as capabilities, abilities, or moves. The user may return to their standard form at any time as a Swift action. That profile is rendered ineffective for archive purposes for one hour while it redevelops. Paste: [+Speed] Prerequisites: Photomancer, Expert Perception, Technique Archive 1 AP- Standard Action Suppress a Technique Archive photo in order to use that move immediately as though it were on your movelist. That move is rendered ineffective for archive purposes for one minute while it redevelops. Swift and Adaptive Shooting: Prerequisites: Photomancer, Master Perception User gains the Exploit ability. In addition, they can add new photos to their archives as a move action, rather than an extended action. |

You could probably make the base feature just give Flash, since it's not that big a move. Also Intensive Focus is kind of...really really good. Way too good. I think it should only give the "triple Perception" option, like most other features of its kind. Also, might just be me, but some of the Photomancer moves seem too powerful for their ranks. I do like the extra stuff you can do with photos though. |

Re Base move: Much as I try to dispassionately separate my character from the class I am creating a create a general class versus something tailored specifically for the campaign, that slipped through. I wanted the class to be available to Prisms by default, the only class I am aware of with access to Flash by RAW, but since my character won't be going Prism, I wanted a gated entrance to the class available when my DM was ready to give me access, which is why I worded it like I did. Does the explanation change your thought on the matter at all? I am definitely open to altering it. Re Intensive Focus: Honestly, my first impression was to do just that, but defy the standard "triple" convention, and instead opt for quadruple instead. That would leave the effective bonus to damage at 24 pre-20, and 32 post-20, which honestly for a combat class not focusing in Atk/SpAtk actually seemed ok to me, because you can get much higher if you do focus, not to mention the lack of a cap. That said, because it defied convention, I decided to scrap it. Thoughts? Re Moves: This is what I wanted help on more than anything. I had no clue really which moves I wanted to go in which Rank, and basically just ended up guessing. Commentary here would be great. Also, ideas on how the class is fluffed would be great. I am picturing using Photomancer moves entails say, taking a picture of a Sunny Day and holding it up to the sky, and things of that nature. Helping me coalesce my thoughts is greatly appreciated. |

Well, that kind of makes sense, but honestly you could probably do that just by switching all the Perception requirements to Occult Edu requirements, since that's the usual skill for "magic" classes. Also, all the classes that currently use "triple skill ranks" are also non-combat classes that don't even give any stat tags. So Photomancer is kind of already better than them at that. So I don't really see any reason to go quarduple for it instead. I'm not really good at ranking moves, so I'll leave that to someone else to do. |

I can add some bit about being an overpowered fox demon thing if that is what it takes to get attention. But seriously though, I appreciate the help Graygriffin, but the status moves and the ranking was my biggest concern about its efficacy and balance. I would appreciate more people weighing in instead of lurking!

Is this a necro? Sorry if it is, just looking at playing this and had a question. Why does having perception and a camera allow someone to suddenly teleport across the world, or shapeshift? Would adding an Occult ed requirement to those help it make a bit more sense, just because it's like actively magical? |
