Katei Town; The Forest Gateway

Katei Town, while every bit as modern as Tabi Port, doesn't look quite so incongruous in its design and seems to have been designed to be as well-occupied as it is; the centre of the town is occupied by an odd-looking building that looks a little like a doughnut, which is obviously the main attraction of the town as almost everything else seems to have been built up around it. A Pokemon Centre stands just by the entrance to the forest, which cuts off in a neat line as if someone's come along and measured it with a ruler.

When you arrive, it seems the rain has driven most people indoors, although there are a couple of young children and a Squirtle playing in one of the larger puddles.

When Sibyl wakes up the next morning, she spends a lot of time slowly writing some seals. She takes longer than normal, getting lost in thought and distraction often. Thinking about what's to come in the future... seemed like more was going to happen here than she thought at first. But these would keep them safe, she knew. And she had more so-called 'occult' tricks up her sleeve. Even though they were from an old life, she couldn't let it go to waste. She resolves herself to use her past as a means, for the future, not to deny it as much. This sort of introspection is unusual for her, and it takes time to reach her conclusion, so she leaves later than normal.

She realises, slightly belatedly, that she would want time to train with her Pokemon before the battle. She then rushes the morning routine quite noticeably to make time, nearly leaving without signing the sheet, which she does in an untidy scrawl. She starts training some time after Isabella, looking slightly more dishevelled than normal, doing warm-up exercises and such with Miri and Paddy.

When Sibyl sees what Isabella has along with her explanation, she makes a somewhat impressed look. "Wow, good eye. Or good clairvoyance. Wonder who left it there..." Her look then disappears, as she realises this find would have been just after her dismissive foraging comment. She quietly hopes the Entei situation made everyone forget that bit. "Uhh, I think Miri could. Who else here..?", she says, looking around at the others.

Oscar wakes up early the next morning, both out of excitement for his first tournament, unofficial though it might be, and to be as prepared as possible. He goes outside to train almost immediately, so as to give his pokemon as much time to rest between training and tournament as possible. Today, he focuses Harria's training on offense and Ivy's on defense, also trying to find the best balance between underworking and overworking them. It's a work in progress, but ever-improving.

"Excellent work, girls!" He says, smiling, as they finish. "I'd wager that tournament is as good as ours." He then goes to make breakfast, making sure to feed Ivy and Harria well. Afterwards, he goes with the rest of his companions to enter the tournament, signing his name with a flourish.

After that, he finds himself at a bit of a loose end until the tournament starts. He's able to occupy himself a little by observing the other trainers who look to be entering the tournament and brainstorming theoretical strategies with his pokemon, but overall, without training, he finds he has little to do but wait.

Fortunately, he's saved by Isabella. "Payback, eh? A useful move. And a very impressive find." He says, giving her a respectful nod. "I don't believe either of my pokemon can learn it, so anyone else can use it if they like, or we can keep it in reserve. It's entirely up to you, Isabella."

The first thing Jeremy does after he wakes up is find and take a nice, long shower. The rain of the past couple days had only done so much to make him forget he hadn't showered since the boat. His mood remarkably improved by his new-found freshness, he heads outside to train with the others. While there, he notices that he and Oscar have similar battling tactics. "That could be interesting if we come face to face," He thinks. "And I can't deny I'd like to knock the blowhard down a couple pegs." He refocuses on his own Pokémon, doubling his efforts.

After training, he puts his signature - a big 'J' followed by a vague scribble - under Oscar's signature, then sits down in a chair away from the others and pulls his hood up; his way of getting into the zone before a job. He only re-emerges when Isabella mentions the TM.

"Payback? Yeah, pretty sure both of mine can use it. Well, Almond might need to evolve first. But I'll take it off your hands, if you're offerin'."

Isabella shrugs fluidly. "I mean, I'd hang onto it until I catch something that can use it, but it doesn't do any good hoarding it and having it sit in my bag. Better off letting one of you guys have it while it's useful."

Since Sybil and Jeremy are the ones who have a use for it, she holds the TM out to them. "You two can figure out who gets it, if you want. It's nice when my visions do some good for somebody. Usually I just find a bunch of random berries or stuff somebody dropped."

Aside from your own names, there are four other names on the list: Jakob (printed in block capitals), Ali (written in a childish scrawl), Eve (in neat copperplate) and one name that is every bit as illegible as Isabella's signature. Unlike Isabella, though, they didn't think to write their name out neatly alongside their signature.

The rules of the tournament are also printed alongside; standard League battling rules, with the exception that Trainers cannot use items on their Pokemon. Up to two Pokemon may be used per round - a sticky note is attached to the rules, reminding you that while healing will be provided in between rounds, a Pokemon that is repeatedly injured may not be able to fight at full effectiveness in later rounds.

While training, Isabella finds a yellow berry which obviously fell off one of the trolleys of food she's seen trundling past as the Pokemon Centre receives its morning delivery. And the discussion regarding the Payback TM is interrupted slightly when Prickles and Ellis get into a mostly playful tug-of-war over some sort of small pouch.

Sibyl thinks a little about the TM, before making a decision. "Yeah, I think Miri should do fine without. I think you might need it more, Jerry," she says, nodding in agreement with herself. She then makes a sideways look at the 'battling' Prickles and Ellis, saying to Isabella and Jeremy, "Might want to check that out, looks interesting."

'Jerry' is in the midst of an intake of breath to thank Sibyl when she springs the unwanted nickname on him again. Instead of thanking her, he screws his face to comical proportions and shakes his head while grabbing the TM. "'Jeremy' will do." He says dryly. "But fo' real. Thank you." He says this to both girls.

Afterwards he goes and inspects the rules of the tournament, that he had somehow missed the first time. "Two Pokémon, huh?" He mutters, plucking Almond's ball out of his belt and regarding it wistfully. "Maybe I shoulda tried catching that Entei..."

Sibyl makes a look of mock sadness, in a teasing, non-serious manner. "Aw come on, I let you call me Sib..." She says to Jeremy in a playful manner. "Anyway, it's no problem. But I call dibs on the next one we find," she continues with a cheeky smile. "Well, if I can use it."

"Hey, you two. Save it for the tournament, huh?" This is addressed to Prickles and Ellis as she relieves the two of them of their newfound toy. The pungent, herbal odor of Heal Powder is hard to mistake. "Looks like you've found something again, huh, Prickles?"

Of course, the tournament rules mean she's left to consider who gets left out of the fight. As she thinks, she toys with the berry she found idly. "Oh, can anybody figure out what kind of berry this is? I'm stumped."

Chouette's my strongest, but she hasn't come into her own yet - she's not a physical type but all the moves she knows are. Hirondel's fast and strong but fragile, Prickles can take a hit but I don't know how much he trusts me yet...

Oscar looks up.

"Hm? Looks like a Sitrus Berry. Find them a bit too tangy, myself, but they're pretty useful." He pauses. "What? I know a few things about berries." He shrugs, then goes back to thinking.
