Katei Town, while every bit as modern as Tabi Port, doesn't look quite so incongruous in its design and seems to have been designed to be as well-occupied as it is; the centre of the town is occupied by an odd-looking building that looks a little like a doughnut, which is obviously the main attraction of the town as almost everything else seems to have been built up around it. A Pokemon Centre stands just by the entrance to the forest, which cuts off in a neat line as if someone's come along and measured it with a ruler.

When you arrive, it seems the rain has driven most people indoors, although there are a couple of young children and a Squirtle playing in one of the larger puddles.

"No I mean we should've found a time where it wouldn't rain at all for weeks, not that we shouldn't have chosen a time where it would rain for weeks," the aide hastily clarifies. "I'd hate it raining for weeks. I only have one umbrella. Team Aegis? Weird." Though he's obviously now answering Isabella, he continues speaking towards Jeremy for a few moments, as if he's forgotten who said what.

"Don't know why they'd be wandering around scaring people. They always seems pretty cool. I, er...I wanted to be one of them when I was a kid, actually. What did they say exactly?" Ignoring Oscar's question more by accident than malice, it seems, he sounds a little like an excited kid himself.

"This was when we were stopping the first night, they were hanging around at the rest stop. Two of 'em. Um, it was..." Her brow furrows in concentration as she tries to remember, and she lowers her voice a little as if to mimic the effect of their voice distortion. "'Turn around, go home, forget about this island.' And then, 'You are pawns in a game so large you are not even aware of its existence... Consider this: What makes you and the nineteen others that were picked for the League so special?'"

She shakes her head. "That was the woman. I think she was in charge. The rest of it was all generic threatening stuff. 'If we have to hurt you, we will.' It was only 'cause I insulted them on the way out that the guy let it slip who they were, and she cut him off after, so I'm pretty sure we weren't supposed to know."

She gives the aide a strange look. "So what does Team Aegis do normally? 'Cause I'm pretty sure these guys were planning to scare us off specifically. I mean, all the trainers taking on the league."

"'What makes you and the nineteen others'...'what makes you and the nineteen others'...what makes you and the nineteen others'...nope, I got nothing." The aide gives something of a shrug. "Weird. Sure sounds like them, though. Maybe someone wanted to frame them for something? Guess that'd be Team Kontari if anyone."

"Oh, right, Professor Willow didn't want you guys to be told about them unless it was necessary. ...oops."
He looks crestfallen for a moment before perking up again. "Oh well. Too late now. Team Aegis are...sort of vigilantes, I guess? People that treat their Pokemon badly...they don't like that. And yeah, they kinda go over the top at times, but they're pretty well-liked. When they aren't trying to scare people for no apparent reason, I guess," he adds after a moment. "The League really hate them though, for some reason. The League is the main reason they get the whole 'Team' label; makes them sound more like criminals, I suppose. And then...Team Kontari legitimately are criminals, like Team Rocket or Team Flare, or...whatever the other ones are. They're just cruel. Don't know why anyone would ever join them."

"You were asking what there was to do around here?"
He rather suddenly changes the conversation topic and turns back to look at Oscar. "Well when it's not raining, there's usually a practice tournament going on on the green. Gives you practice for Verdance, I suppose. Er...or there's Professor Willow's lab. Oh, that reminds me. If you stop by the lab we can upload the map of the island to your Pokedexes."

"Oh man. I get outta Goldenrod to get away from one criminal organisation and end up somewhere where there's two? Ain't it just my damn birthday." Jeremy forces a laugh, before turning back to the Aide. "And doesn't it seem like it might've been a better idea to warn groups of youths to a present criminal element? Seems like we was gonna find out anyway."

He has some thoughts on the theory that one team might be setting up another, but decides it would be best to keep his opinions on crime strategies and politics to himself.

He gets up out of the chair and stretches. "As much as I'd love to get back to training, I think it might be best we hit up the Professor and get some freebies first. You guys in?"

"Yes, yes..." Oscar replies, sounding somewhat distracted - his ears had perked up at the word "Tournament". "That would be... yes, probably best we do that first. But afterwards... tell me more about this tournament." He says. He didn't miss the word "practice", but doesn't let that bother him.

Isabella purses her lips as she processes the new information. "I think the cat was out of the bag when the lady and her pet idiot decided to set up shop at the rest stop. A frame-up job... could be. If Aegis uses those voice changers and hoods all the time, anybody could pretend to be one." As for the League's animosity toward them, she can think of a couple reasons. Maybe Aegis really does go too far, just not often enough or openly enough for it to damage their word-of-mouth badly. Or maybe they've got a specific beef with someone high up in the League.

She glances over at Jeremy with a wry smile. "Don't worry, big guy. If they give us trouble, we'll send 'em packing. Maybe we can make like champions and foil a dastardly scheme or two on our way to the top, huh?" She stretches her own arms out carelessly. "I'll third the motion of checking up with the Professor. Battles are better when you aren't getting rained on."

Boy, is she going to be disappointed the first time she runs into somebody whose strategy involves the weather...

Sibyl nods appreciatively at all of this information. She didn't think that it maybe could be a frame-up - guess it might pay to be sceptical. It would probably be safe to give either of them some healthy respect though - that means no posturing, though looking at Isabella, Hell would freeze over first.

Like Oscar, she's pretty interested in the tournament as well. "Yeah, lets go see the Prof then. Though who's Verdance?" She asks in a throwaway, off-hand manner.

"Oh, er, Verdance is the Gym Leader of Koen Town. That's the next town along," the aide adds after a moment, holding his coat over his head and raising his voice to talk back to the four of you as he leads you towards the oddly-shaped building. "Though she...um, might not be very nice to you guys. So...you know, be warned. Anyway! Welcome to Professor Willow's lab!" He throws open the double doors in what is obviously intended to be dramatic fashion, although they're obviously on some sort of cleverly-designed hinges because they open very slowly instead.

The lab, as it turns out, doesn't look very scientific. The room you're in, which is roughly semicircular, could be mistaken for the lobby of a hotel, in fact, with a small selection of comfortable chairs and a plant pot on one side, a pair of vending machines on the other, and a desk in the centre, with a bored-looking young woman leaning back in her chair, feet up on the desk. Behind the desk is another set of double doors, and another two doors are positioned at either end of the straight side of the room.

"Not be very nice to us? The hell?" Jeremy asks indignantly. "She's a Gym Leader at a historic point in your nation's League history. What's she got to be salty about?" He didn't mean to be rude; but after Douglas and Team 'Aegis', Jeremy wasn't about to judged and disrespected right off the bat for a third time.

His frustrations fall away as the Aide comically fails to be dramatic, stifling a laugh as he follows him inside.

Isabella huffs quietly. "I guess they aren't wild about a bunch of new trainers showing up. I mean, a lot of people back home look down their nose at tourists. You'd think a Gym Leader would be more professional, though."

She hunches her shoulders as they head out into the drizzle again. The funny-shaped building being the town's centerpiece makes a lot more sense if it's the lab. She covers her mouth to hide her smile when the building refuses to cooperate with the aide's dramatic reveal. Memo to self, know how the doors work before I throw them open for drama.

She glances back at Oscar as she follows Jeremy into the building. "Just so you know, if we go out in the rain again I'm stealing your hat."
