Ravager Orders + Sheer Force

Hey guys, just been introduced to PTU and now making my first character.

This is my rules question: Ravager Orders allows the target to trip on all melee attacks by 18+. Sheer Force negates all Effect Ranges on Accuracy in exchange for +2 damage base for moves. So, does Sheer Force negate the trip on Ravager Orders for +2 damage base? Seems like it could be either way, depending on how you determine Sheer Force and what Ravager Orders is considered as.

As a GM I'd rule that they didn't interact like that, as Sheer Force is about giving up the chance to use part of an attack's natural effect (poison, burn, paralysis) and trading it for MOAR POWAH while Ravager Orders is more a question of technique application.

Effect Range: Refers to the likelihood of activation of effects that occur dependent on accuracy roll.

So I think Reckless Advance's tripping effect, which is dependent on the accuracy roll, is an effect range - certainly I've always allowed Brutal Training to apply to it - which would make it subject to Sheer Force. Probably boils down to a GM's call, though.

Welcome to the Forum!

I think the wording for Sheer Force in the Playtest packet clears it up:

February 2016 Playtest Packet pg. 9

Ability: Sheer Force
Static
Effect: Moves with an Effect Range gain a +10 Bonus to
Damage, but the Effect Ranges can never be triggered.

You still get Ravager Orders 18+ with as Sheer Force only effects the move itself rather than abilities added to the move.

Edit: This question should probably should have been asked in the Q&A Thread. If you have other question like this one, it's a good place to ask them.
