Has anyone seen the new trailer yet? It can be found here, and goes over the Starter's first stage evolutions, the state of Mega Evolution, new mini-games and details on the Demo, which goes live on October 18th (thank you, Nintendo!), following in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire Demo's footsteps of having a unique transferable Pokemon to send over to Sun and Moon when it goes live. For anyone not wanting to watch, I've left my thoughts on the Pokemon itself in the Spoiler below, as well as an included picture. ![]() Open at your own risk!

Stage 1 Starters: Torracat looks distressingly like it could evolve into that stupid tiger-wrestler abomination I've seen people insist will be the case. The idea that Fire might not have the best-looking starter design for once is horrifying to me on an existential level. Ash-Greninja: IT'S AN ABILITY WE CAN LEAVE THE SYNCHRO GARBAGE TO YU-GI-OH THANK YOU. |

Eh? I think the best designs tend to be water in general. Gen 1 they're probably equal, but Feraligatr trumps Typhlosion every day in my book. Swampert also has the edge over Blazekin, and Empoleon is by far the best of the bunch. Gen 5 just had horrible designs in general (in my opinion at least), and Greninja stole the show. Grass usually lags behind, (though if the archer-owl thing actually happens, it might win out this gen). *these are all personal opinions presented as such, not as objective fact. Opinions also presented in a fun and lighthearted manner. |

"Horrible designs in general" does not exactly refute "Fire tends to have the best designs." Though I do agree with regard to Gen V. And no, Monkey King >>>> Tin Penguin. ![]() But yes, if those "leaked" images turn out to be true it might actually be enough for me to jump ship and use the Grass starter on my first run for once. This is anathema.

Rowlett was already threatening to make me jump from my tradition of taking Water starters. Nothing against Popplio, but it's a baby owl in a bow tie, how can you compete with that? And now he's an owl in a bow tie with fancy hair and quite possibly evolving into Robin Hood owl. I don't have a problem with the actual design of the leaked final forms (if they're the real thing, which looks likely and also makes the Water/Grass choice harder for me :/ Popplio's final form looks neat), but I do feel like Torracat is too similar in design to Litten for the jump to bipedal wrestler-tiger not to be jarring. Basically either the 1-2 change is too small or the 2-3 change is too much. That's entirely an opinion thing, though. I am hoping that if we get El Tigre as a starter it's a Dark secondary rather than Fighting. Just because it would honestly be kind of boring otherwise; Emboar all over again. We already have a Fire/Fighting wrestler final form. Just because this one isn't also a Journey to the West reference doesn't mean it's not irritating. Make it a heel and have it fight dirty all the time, it's much more fun that way. (I am totally going to call wrestler-tiger El Tigre until we get a real name for it. And maybe afterward as well.) |

"Beltigre" needs to die in a fire. Or, if the theory that the new starters have version-dependent branched evolutions holds, not be the one that Moon gets. Because it's stupid. On a more positive note, I love Kommo'o. A Dragon/Fighting-type? Haven't seen that before, it's cool. Based on a fairly obscure Hawai'ian legend? Awesome. It performs the haka in battle? I NEED IT IN ME GIVE IT NOW. Edited by Eisen, Oct 14 2016, 08:45 AM.
