Can a high Guile represent thinking quickly on your feet?

I am building a character who relies on uncommon battling strategies (stealing digestion buffs and held items, status, combat stage reducers, ect) and for the life of me can't figure out if I want to go with Guile or Command for my second fashionista skill (first is Intuition).

I don't want to include Ace Trainer / Commander / Type Ace / Stat Ace in the build, but the character idolizes Jousting Knights so I can't imagine they'd be a good liar like a high Guile suggests?

I really want to try Trickster with this character, but I worry that seems uncharacteristic of someone who idolizes mounted knights?

Guile spans quite the wide category, but yes it can and does represent quick thinking. For your character concept, Guile seems like a perfect fit.

While having high Guile does usually mean that your character is a good liar, if you don't want your character to be good at lying, then there's nothing to stop you from saying, "Hey, my character is a terrible liar." It just means that the people you're playing with need to understand that you're prioritizing your roleplay over the mechanics.

As for Trickster, I do agree that the class seems to clash with the ideology of knights and jousting, since I think that your character would prefer to attack directly rather than use indirect ailments. That being said, it all depends on how well you can fluff and sell the concept as being in line with your character.

Names of classes aren't set-in-stone descriptors of what your character is like. A Taskmaster isn't necessarily a cruel trainer that whips their mons, a Ninja isn't always a career shinobi, and a Trickster isn't always a devious liar. I can see Trickster as a class for characters who just have a different, unique way of thinking when it comes to battling.
