I've read and posted in the "Type Sync Ideas" for a while. But I've yet to introduce any mons with changed typing in my campaign. How often should I use Pokémon with changed typing? I have one boss planned that is a Rock/Ice Abomasnow, It has lived in a icy and cold cave and gotten rocks stuck all over its body. But other than that I don't know how soon and how often to use it. |

Do you want it to be a rare and special thing? Then use carefully, and not very often. Do you want it be a common thing, with huge populations of type shifted mon across your region? Then use willy-nilly, as often as the fancy passes you. Its a matter of campaign tone. Ive played in games where it was rare, and that was neat. And Ive played in campaigns where there were more type-shifted than standard, and that was neat too. But it was a different neat, so it'll depend on what youre going for. |

Oki =) If you want them to be known but still uncommon, how often should they encounter one? Once every 50-100 Pokémon or once every 25-50? |

Really, consider it at the speed of plot. If they only encounter one or two Pokémon every few weeks, you can make them a higher percentage, and the opposite for more frequent encounters. I know that I definitely haven't encountered 50 Pokémon in all my games combined yet...

With an encounter rate like that, 2 type shifted in 4 sessions on average would be about 5%. Not unheard to but still special. |

I'm planning a game for some friends and might bring it to the forum to find people if some friends don't play, but I wanted to ask because I was curious about what other people thought. The game is based around Shadow Pokemon with all wild pokemon having been either captured by regular trainers, captured by villains, or hiding away from humans. So the majority of pokemon caught will be Shadow Pokemon. In the games, at least in XD, Shadow Pokemon usually had a move or two that they normally didn't learn. I thought, "What if the process in turning them into a Shadow Pokemon effected them more drastically?" This would include, but not limit to, new moves, abilities, a new type/s, a third type, or even physical changes like size and capabilities. As most of the pokemon would be Shadow Pokemon and then purified to be special, pokemon would be as special as the trainer feels they are, even to the point of the trainers starter being special because it's a rare normal of its species. I was wondering what people thought bout something like this? |

That should be fine, I think. You hit the main point with this.
Pokemon are only ever as special as the trainer thinks they are, so if you can do a good job of varying your shadow pokemon, then no single 'mon should seem "super special." Of course, I havent played with any people who have that need to different and special some do, so if you have one of those, it might not work so well. |
