So I included this blurb at the bottom of the wailord post, but wanted to post it here too!

Throughout this entire blog, I’ve been working on something called the Literary Project. As a recent graduate from college with an English Major, I thought it my duty to promote adaptations of great literary texts in the Pokeverse! Wailord’s first entry serves as the seventh (and final) installment of the series. There are seven plot hooks in this blog that are direct homages to influential literary works from before the year 1900 (along with quite a few references to more modern works too). Some are famous, and others are rather obscure. See if you can find them all!

I'll be keeping a list in the OP as to how many have been found. A few are really tough, so do your best!

Well, Wailord is Moby Dick. The Dragonite entry - Around the World in Eighty Days. That's one, maybe. I'd like to find more, but I can't comb through 17 pages like that. Maybe if you gave some hints to narrow down which Pokémon we should even be looking at, we could then still guess at the books they are inspired by.

You do realize you can have "gritty" without necessarily having "all Pokemon of this species are violent and want to kill you," right? It might be cliche, but sometimes the biggest monster really is man.
And you did it again, with Druddigon, despite there being the perfect plot hook with its gargoyle association. You could have made it be a guardian of some place! Then you could have a fight but also a way to negotiate, or even cooperate! You are wasting so much potential!

I mean, if you have problems with the way someone is doing something, why not do it yourself instead of just complaining about it. They've said they like the way they do it and plan on keeping it up, and honestly I don't see why they shouldn't.

Thank you! I'm glad someone had the sense to say that. It's so rude and entitled to just criticize and complain about something that someone is doing completely for free.

I am offering advice on how to make his blog better, and explaining my reasons. If you recall, Old Greg was also willing to take advice on his plot hooks.

I can't find anything from Scamander where he asked for that kind of advice. I can, however, find a few posts where he does his best to politely decline your attempts to give it, though. You should take the hint that he doesn't want what you're offering. And unless Professor Scamander and Old Greg are actually the same person, I don't see what bearing that has here at all. If you don't like what he's offering, just move on, please. Don't complain and try to change it to suit yourself. Everyone else here seems to be just fine with Scamander's efforts and appreciates the work he's putting into things. If you think you can do better, start your own hooks thread.

Here's a short list, with some 3 extra pokemon thrown in there as decoys
Wailord (Moby Dick discovered already)
Xerneas
Kangaskhan
Sableye
Luxray
Manetric
Budew
Bouffalant
Slugma
Castform

I don't know that I'd go so far as saying that I'm wasting potential. I rather liked all three plot hooks for Druddigon. That being said, you are right that they need more diversity. I don't always see the same connections as others, and the gargoyle thing didn't even jump out at me. In return for my flexibility in attempting to expand my repetoir however, I do ask for a slightly less aggressive tone when you provide feedback.

As noted below, I am not Old Greg, as much as I aspire to be him.

I actually do ask for and welcome feedback; it says so somewhere in the original post. It's how I get better, and I do want to appeal to a wide range of GMs. I do plan on keeping grimdark and gritty in my plot hooks, but ideally each hook for a single Pokemon will cover mutiple tones and campaign styles to allow for maximum usage. This doesn't always happen unfortunately.

However, thank you to Metal Lance and Breaktheleeve for your kind words.

You're welcome, Prof. Thanks for stepping up and putting on Greg's very big shoes. I missed that part where you ask for feedback of any kind, so I owe you an apology, GrayGriffin. I'm very sorry. I still think it would be great if you did your own hooks thread, too, though. You seem like you think in the same vein as Scamander, and even more options is always a good thing. I'd start one if I had that kind of creative thinking talent, but as it stands I have to just rely on guys like you to do the thinking for me. :)

When did I say I don't like his stuff? I love a lot of his plot hooks! That's why I want him to improve!

You completely ignored my post about how "gritty" doesn't need to mean "a bunch of murderous violent Pokemon." So I admit I was a bit miffed.
