Can't wait to see Dunsparce. Also I'd love to see a few more post-apocalyptic ideas for mon if you'd be willing to humor the madman.

Can you please stop making all the plot hooks for "scary" Pokemon "these Pokemon are violent and dangerous and want to kill you"?

In fairness, at least it gives Scyther some characterization besides "generic murderbug." Claw markings are a nice bit, though; that one gives the idea that, much like big cats, Scyther don't necessarily want to kill you, but can be territorial and at least maim you if you get on their bad side.

I'm afraid I can't. That's the PTU that I get the most excited about and invested in, and its an integral part of the reason I'm attracted to playing Pokemon as a tabletop rpg.

What I can do though, is diversify my hooks so that there are hooks for a wide variety of play styles. I've noticed that, especially if I'm tired or am low on time, I don't think outside my comfort zone and just pump out three posts that are all along the same lines thematically. I have to work a lot harder for the more traditional/innocent/comedic plot hooks, which is why they likely don't come along as often. Of course, improving my writing is half the reason I'm here, so I'll make an effort to provide more diversity. That being said, dark and gritty will always be around on this blog, but hopefully in not quite as overwhelming doses as its been. Thanks for the feedback though! It's refreshing to hear criticism, since it means people are actually paying attention.

@Lockdown: I'll try and get some more post apocalyptic and sci fi in the blend. Fantasy is my forte when reading for fun, so that's likely why I gravitate there instead of other options.

@Everyone: The requests are down on the list, though I may not get around to them this week. Depends on how much motivation I feel about one species or another.

Thanks again everyone!

Fun fact: One of the new Pokémon, Salandit, officially has an ability that enables its Poison to cut through Steel. I wonder if the devs will share it with Dragalge, now? :P

"Some have suggested that the evolutions of Dragonair and Magikarp were switched by mistake." Be not ashamed, for while I don't care for Dragonite, I have absolutely no clue how anyone can say that with a straight face.

Gyarados only resembles Dragonair tangentially... the blue coloration, the serpentine bauplan. But Dragonite was most assuredly always intended to be Dragonair's evolved form: Note the shape of its head, the placement of its horn... that its body looks exactly like Dragonair gained a few dozen kilos and grew some limbs.

That being said, there's another hook there: It's said that the... entity, let's say, that tempted Eve to eat from the Tree of Knowledge, was not a snake, but a dragon. While Adam and Eve were reduced to mortality and cast from the Garden of Eden, God punished the Serpent by removing its limbs, forcing him and his descendants to crawl on their bellies for the rest of time. Notice the similarities: Dragonite, a dragon, gives birth to a legless serpent. Dratini doesn't evolve, it devolves!

But you can beat up Pokemon just as easily in the video games. Why would you want that when a tabletop game allows for much more detailed and interesting interactions beyond the Pokedex stereotypes?

But PTU actually allows the trainer to get stuck in alongside his Pokémon. Why ignore Pokédex stereotypes when you can play them even closer to the hilt?

Oh I don't know that anyone could really call the Pokemon games grimdark or gritty. It's very much friendship is power, which is very, very different. The Pokedex entries don't really have any impact on gameplay.

In any case, I'll aim for more diversity, but gritty is here to stay ... at least in part.

You do realize you can have "gritty" without necessarily having "all Pokemon of this species are violent and want to kill you," right? It might be cliche, but sometimes the biggest monster really is man.
