So, I'm having a hard time building the gym challenge for a new group. I want to give badges something special, so I wanted to ask for help here. On a recent run, for example, our GM made the Boulder Badge to have your Pokemon to be sent out with the Curled Up (Sept2015) status if they were able to learn Defense Curl or Rollout from any list, and the Cascade Badge to improve your Pokemon's swim speed by +3, and allow them to breath underwater. These are some ideas that I could use, but I wanted to ask for help, at least only for the Kanto region, I'm not planning on extending the game that much. I was thinking the boulder badge to add a permanent +1 to all your pokemon base defense, but this might be unbalanced, and may cripple the player's pokemon builds. Then I thought about giving the pokemon damage reduction, but then again, unbalanced. The Cascade Badge would be similar to my friend's, but maybe removing the breath underwater part. Any ideas?

I know for my badges in Dark Storm Rising, they give a single ability related to the Gym to a single Pokémon in the trainer's party, which may be switched as an Extended Action. For instance, the Bug Gym gave Tinted Lens. I know that it can be hard to balance, but it has also lead to some fun moments, such as a water attack against a water type - and it turned out to have water absorb. Never would have happened otherwise. Just don't go handing out Wonder Guard.

If you want to have badges give stats OP, just have them add to stats in the way stat boosters do, which is right after combat stages and such. |
