The path through the - admittedly quite light - forest is either extremely well-maintained or extremely new. In places, there are what appear to be Pokemon trails that have forged paths into the forested area. A few Pokemon call in the distance, though none are immediately visible.

Pokemon with similar types or diets often group up like this to protect themselves. I mean... if there are a lot of potential enemies, even trainers like us would be less likely to attack, right? It's more common for similar species to group together too, but I guess that isn't always the case..." Abbey says, joining Sybil in petting the Deerling since Isabella seems to be having better luck with the Zigzagoon. "This natural camouflage is really neat, though. I'd read about similar things in books, but it's so cool to see it in real life!"

She glances up at Sibyl. "Do you think we could take some of them with us?" The Deerling's display had certainly caught her interest, but she would like to catch as many Pokemon on this trip as possible; mostly for intellectual pursuits, but it couldn't be bad to have a lot of friends too, right?

She just... isn't sure how to really... engage capturing in a situation like this. Like she had said only moments ago, initiating combat with a group like this could be dangerous for them, having just started out, and the captured Pokemon probably wouldn't appreciate them attacking them out of the blue after they had tried to display themselves as non-threatening.

As the Deerling engages its defensive instinct, Sibyl responds, "Whoops... Guess you should back off a bit, Miri," giving her an apologetic look, before turning back to the Deerling, and continuing. "That was pretty cool though. Come on Deerling, it's safe now."

Sibyl thinks for a while as to how to approach capturing in this situation. She wonders aloud in a low voice to the others, "I hope so, but not sure how. Maybe we try to sell travelling with us? Make it sound more exciting, safer or something than staying here? Will they even understand that?"

"These guys seem pretty easy to spook," Jeremy murmurs to the others, still eyeing up the Seedot. "Maybe something came by recently and gave them a scare? Talking with them might be an idea but I don't think I should be the one to do it, since it looks I don't exactly have a rapport with Pokémon." He pronounced it 'rap-ortt', but still said it with the confidence of a native speaker, even putting some emphasis on it. If you could say one thing about Jeremy, it's that he's a trier. "Any volunteers?"

"The T is silent. Nice try, though." Isabella tilts her head, considering the situation. "I don't actually, y'know, speak Pokémon or anything. But I guess I can try?"

She holds out a hand to the Zigzagoon, trying to look as nonthreatening as possible. The idea of trying to talk some of them into coming along had crossed her mind, but Jeremy's idea seems like something worth following up on. And if something did scare them, it'd help build up trust to make them more likely to come along.

"What about it?" she asks, addressing the Zigzagoon and feeling a little silly in the process. "Something happen around here recently to get you all riled up?"

Miriam gives a sound that sounds very much like a "Hmph!" and floats back away again, though the Deerling remains camouflaged for a few seconds longer before returning to its normal colouration, accepting the petting quite happily. The Zigzagoon, meanwhile, gives a twitch of its head, seeming to indicate Abbey, Sibyl and the Deerling.

Isabella considers the implications of this. "I think he means that the little guy got spooked when he ran into us and he got everyone else worked up like something dangerous was coming."

She's assigned the Zigzagoon and Deerling pronouns on absolutely no evidence, just to have something to call them.

Sibyl nods. "That would make sense," she agrees. She tries talking to the Deerling next, asking it, "Is that right? Sorry to scare you. How about the rest of the Pokémon here: do you know them?", continuing to help ascertain the situation as she rubs its head as an apology.

She then speaks quietly to the rest of the group, "Looks like talking to them isn't such a bad idea, looks like we could get them to follow us after all. Might try speaking to one of the others next."

Isabella and Sibyl get somewhat conflicting answers; the Zigzagoon shakes its head and then nods, while the Deerling first nods and then shakes its head. It seems that whatever the truth, it's getting beyond the realms of what they are able to communicate.

Isabella frowns, trying to make sense of what the Pokémon are telling them. "... Okay, Prickles, you lost me." Sometimes Isabella wishes she actually could talk to Pokémon. It would make life an awful lot easier on occasion.

She glances up at Chouette. "What about you, Chouette? Are you getting anything?" Not that she has high hopes for the Hoothoot being able to convey the message any better.

Sibyl sighs and places her hands on her head, feeling all the more frustrated. "So what, Deerling reckons he's never seen these guys before, but... Prickles... has? And that Deerling wasn't scared by us? What, do they think the Deerling is acting, to lure us? Well, maybe that's a bit strong of a word, but..." She wrestles uncomfortably with this idea, but it seems preposterous.

"Someone please tell me I'm being crazy."
